I was a vegetarian for 30 years and then vegan for another 5 years. Although I've always been an active person, I ended up overweight with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and Type 2 diabetes. I also had major problems with kidney stones. I attempted vegetarian Keto to heal myself without meds, only to discover that I had developed an allergy to eggs while vegan. So I (very reluctantly and with a great deal of angst) started a meat-based Keto diet. After six months I switched to carnivore, to better control my blood sugar. Four years later, my diabetes is under control with diet alone, I'm a normal weight, and I haven't had any issues with kidney stones. I truly wish veganism had worked for me but I was incredibly unhealthy, and always, always hungry. I was on a raw vegan diet for a while which helped with weight loss but I ended up having to have lithotripsy twice for kidney stones too large to pass. Some people don't do well on a plant-based diet and I'm one of them. On carnivore, I eat much less than I used to, I feel satiated after each meal, and intermittent fasting is easy. I try to eat ethically raised meat as much as possible and believe regenerative agriculture is the best way to save the planet. Wishing everyone the best of health, whichever diet works best for them.

Same thing with me. I’m into my third year of carnivore/based life. Going against every doctor in my life, I just went to this way of eating because my body kept telling me to. Within One Month I totally reversed my D2 ! I’m 80, completely done with physicians who do not value me over their System. This is how my 1st generation American mother fed me and how I fed myself prior to caving to pressures from the vegetarian people in the medical industry. I found Dr Berry’s channel for support and I am happier and healthier now than the past 25 years of my life.

My experience was somewhat different in that I lost far too much weight. I was always hungry and really cold. The vegetarian followed by vegan diets blew out my thyroid, caused leaky gut syndrome, wiped out my immune system, suffered from kidney stones, and set off chronic migraine. I was so thin that my body started tearing down skeletal muscle. I'm now omnitarian, a slim normal weight, generally healthy. However, I'll be on thyroxin for the rest of my life.

Honestly too, there wouldn't really be a need for any of this discussion if it weren't for greed. In our culture, it is about making money anyway possible. That is why companies like the cereal producers and bread producers, and soy and corn, etc. want to fight any kind of argument against the processed foods they produce because they are making money while people are getting sicker and sicker, much like the tobacco companies did for years. Dr. Robert Lustig hits the nail on the head with this subject. Before the industrial revolution people grew their own food, raised their own animals, and they would buy and sell amongst their communities, and there wasn't as much need for a grocery store. Everything was homemade, and pesticides were very rare or non-existent. Greed is truly the driving force in our society today.

In regards to LDL, new studys are showing that high LDL is not so important as is the levels of triglycerides to HDL. In fact Dr Paul Mason talks about some populations with higher LDL, HDLs and low triglycerides have longer healther life spans with healther brain and memory functions. So it is appearing that LDL is not the Bad guy but triglycerides are and triglycerides are raised by high sugar carb and excessive PUFAs and insulin resistance according to Dr Paul Mason and Dr Lustig among others.

When I go to a crowded grocery store, and they are always crowded nowadays, it occurs to me that a few decades ago most of these people lived on farms or at least had large gardens and grew much of what they ate. And that sort of dictated that they were eating real food for the most part. I am 82, and I remember my grandmother telling me that when she was a little girl she got an orange once a year at Christmas time. When I remember what supermarkets used to carry compared to the mega stores of today it is mind boggling. According to some credible weight loss researchers, a lot of our weight problem is not will power so much as it is access and availability. To me the amount of food that surrounds us is staggering. How do we mere mortals contend with so much easy access to all this food?

I was vegan for 5 years. I went vegan for ethical reasons and followed a wfpb diet for about 80%. I ate tons of carbs and near the end fell into that low fat group. Three years into it I really started to notice my health issues. I was slowly getting mental health problems, skin issues, constantly aching, emotional mess, weight problems, digestive issues, allergies to things I’ve never had issues with… doctors didn’t find anything really wrong with me but I felt awful. So I got put on depression and anxiety meds and was told to follow a low fodmap diet. The month before I stopped being vegan, last August, I was basically eating bread because it was the only thing that didn’t seem to upset my stomach. I’m now off meds, all my issues are gone by eating a heavy animal based diet. I’m playing with the idea of completely resetting my body with carnivore but… I just haven’t done it. The only time I feel off is when I eat carbs and certain veggies…

You want the truth? Here's the truth: When it comes to diet, anyone who tries to sell you on "the miracle diet" is lying to you or trying to sell you something, each of our gut bacterial cultures is unique and react uniquely to different types of food. Some people might have a great response to the carnivore diet, while others have stomach problems, same goes for all the different diets out there. I don't give much creedence to nutritional science, except for the broad strokes, because it's so f'ing biased. Eat something and listen to your body, it'll tell you if it doesn't like the food you ate. I've tried so many fad diets over the years from veganism, low-fat, low-calorie, etc., and have always felt disappointed, a few years ago I tried the carnivore diet, but for the 4 months I was doing it, red meat was absolutely wreaking havoc on my gut and I alternated between diarrhea and constipation through the entire duration. Now I just eat a balanced diet, some meat, some veggies, some yogurt and the occassional grains and starch, and I feel just fine. The only "diet" I can ever recommend is the FODMAP diet, which is not really a diet, it's a 2 to 6 week diet, where you start off by stripping away all the foods that may trigger you to have digestive problems, and then slowly over those few weeks introducing the foods you have cut away to find out what foods your body can and cannot tolerate. It worked wonders for me.
@Bruce.Wallace
@Bruce.Wallace 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry but you're going to be disappointed. You're never going to get it. Because the science is never going to exist. You can't lock people up in laboratories for their entire lives to study them. And without doing that there is never going to be real science that exists without a myriad of confounding factors. No current studies have anything close to the controls in place required to draw actual conclusions from the studies.

I think a key underappreciated factor is lifestyle. Epigenetics is everything. Gene expression is regulated by internal and external environment. Everyone talks about the optimal diet for humans as if it's a pair of shoes we can all fit into but that mentality comes from our obsession with central planning and centralized control. Life doesn't work that way. What is the most important organ in the body? What is the most important animal on the planet? The most important plant? Is carbon more important than water? Or oxygen? Environment matters. Where you live matters. What your lifestyle is like matters. How much joy and sorrow you deal with matters. Your inner dialog matters. These factors are hard to quantify but have just as much bearing on your health as your dietary tendencies. Healthy living soil produces healthy, nutrient dense plants, which in turn feeds healthy animals, which other animals feed on to maintain health and strength, etc. This is the life cycle. Life feeds on life in an endless cycle of rebirth. Every part is necessary. We need more pastoralists AND we need more agriculturists practicing, refining and moving regenerative and restorative ag forward on a small, local scale. We need more small farms, more small butchers, more small markets, more people on the land! We need more silvopastures and tree cropping. We need more vibrant small towns and communities that people are proud to live in and be part of. The exodus of people from the land and into cities has been a travesty we are now starting to feel the effects of. It seems to me the main diseases affecting the people of the world is myopia and/or oneitis. We are looking too closely at minutiae and getting too fixated on finding that one "truth" or revelation that will make it all make sense and in doing so we forget one of the most important truths of all, one we all knew as a child. Life is magical! To be alive is an ongoing miracle and tremendous gift.

no matter where a cow comes from in the world, they still eat plants. No matter where in the world a breed of dog originated, it still eats meat. Humans are not herbivores in one place, and carnivires in another, Humans have only eaten a significant amount of plants for the last few thousand years when we we were stupid enough to start eating the plants we grew, rather then just feed it to animals. We are obligate carnivores with some tolerance for plants. That is where your genetic adaptation comes in. But meat and animal fats alone, ( with salt) , will keep a human healthy and thriving. Plants cause more problems than they are worth tbh.

Same with most of the references there and on his website. I’m open to opposing views that’s why I watched it and went through the research he used but if it says the opposite you really feel duped and you realise this is a propaganda effort for financial and ego gain. It's pretty hard to figure out just what we need when it comes to nutrition. On regenerative farms, they give the cows a selection of minerals, and they seem to know which ones they need, in the process their waste puts those minerals back into the soil. But human beings base our food choices on many things, including advertising and cultural habits that may or may not be good for us. I've lost a lot of weight on a keto diet that I'm not even all that faithful to, but I do try to make sure what I usually eat is organically grown or pasture-raised. So far, so good.

To begin to describe the improvements in my health as I gravitated towards a carnivore style of nutrition would not do it justice. Ever since I began it has been a cascade of unexpected improvements over a wide array of health markers. I actually didn't start this lifestyle to address weight issues but it has been one of the natural consequences of the Keto style of eating. Since Christmas I've refined it further to be full carnivore and as a consequence the most surprising change is best described as a healing of the gut biome. The details are not necessarily very nice to share in public discussions but the best way to put it might be that the experience of going to the toilet is as I remember it as a 10 year old. My reason to start this journey is due to trying to solve really high blood pressure which went from 180 over 120 to healthy levels very early in the journey. So that's the background but it's not what I want to share as my biggest gripe with the ideological narratives that surround the idea of meat and food production. My owns a sygnificant sized farm and as per this discussion she has been working really hard to keep the soil "alive". Just like our gut the soil can be really healthy or not by what we do to it. My sister rotates the animals and crops in very precise ways to manage the micro biology of the soil. As a consequence she does not need anywhere near the levels of chemical fertilisers or pesticides that her neighbours do. Whatever is happening to produce the narratives around "planet saving" is clearly delusional in the context of what needs to happen to tend a healthy environment. Greta Thumburg and all her cronies are ignorant fools.

I found this excerpt on one website: “If you have a pre-existing chronic condition, like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, any history of stroke or other cardiovascular diseases, you should definitely NOT try this diet,” Patton says pointedly. “Even if you have digestive issues, this diet can make things worse with all that protein and fat, which takes a lot longer to digest.” The carnivore diet is high in saturated fats which can cause elevated LDL or bad cholesterol and put you at risk for heart disease. What’s more, many different kinds of processed meats like bacon and some lunch meats are loaded with sodium and have been linked to certain types of cancer. And a diet high in sodium can cause kidney problems and high blood pressure." Thank you, greetings from Romania!

I like your presentation. However, it is important to use correct language when talking about a "keto diet". As you mention at 41:28 a keto diet is not a very low carb diet. However you never define a keto diet. It is normal for MDs to classify diets based on the food that is eaten. That is what has been done for hundreds of years. However, a much better definition of keto diet is "A diet that puts someone in ketosis". As you know, not everyone reacts the same way to a low carb/high fat diet. For example, if person A is on a low carb/high fat diet which puts them in ketosis then person A is on a keto diet. If person B is on the exact same diet and is not able to enter ketosis, then the diet is NOT a keto diet for person B. Also, if a diet is able to induce ketosis in a person and then after a few weeks the ketosis stops (maybe due to a change in workout), then that person is no longer on a keto diet even though it is the same diet. Also, people can be in ketosis on a plant-based diet, all they have to do is to greatly reduce their calorie intake and eat infrequently. In order for a diet to be called ketogenic, ketones must be producible on the diet regardless of the food and frequency of eating. In order to call a diet ketogenic, you must measure ketones! If you don't measure ketones you have no idea if the diet is ketogenic or not. Assuming ketosis based on the food that is eaten is a very bad assumption.

Whilst you’re correct in what you say regarding what is keto for one person may not be keto for another, I think they do define it well enough. Diet Doctor has always said some people can tolerate more carbs than others and stay in ketosis. However, they make the point of saying generally less than 20g of carbs (not defined in this video, no, but many times over on their channel they do). As for getting into ketosis. Calories are almost irrelevant for ketosis, the major contributing factor is carbohydrate intake. As above person A may tolerate more carbs than person B and therefore stay in ketosis at a higher carb intake.

There really is no such thing as a keto diet per se. It is really related to food intake or food restriction which causes a person to produce and use ketones. And that can be different / different amounts for different people.

@@jobrown8146 Keto is generally defined as less than 25g of carbs a day where some groups consider 100g of carbs a day as being low carb. To me, it is splitting hairs as the shear number of carbs is pretty much irrelevant. What is relevant is what your body does with the food that you eat. Unfortunately humans love labels and to try to break groups up.

@@finagill Thanks. I don't really care what specific diet name I am using. What I do know is that what I did has worked for me. A1C went from 7.0 to 5.2 after only 3 months. Blood pressure reduced, cholesterol numbers improved, I have lost weight without trying (no fasting and only light exercising and stretching) and my body shape is changing. I have also noticed that my chin hair (I am female, post menopause) seems less stiff after 6 months. I'm hoping that the hair on my legs will become more normal in the future.

"Long-Term Consequences of the Carnivore Diet Following the carnivore diet for a prolonged long time could lead to a score of health issues. “It’s massively devoid in nutrients, carbs, and fiber which will most likely leave you feeling lacking in energy,” Ludlam-Raine said. Fiber isn’t found in animal products, and a lack of it could lead to constipation and upset in the gut microbiome. Avoiding fruits and vegetables can also mean missing out on key nutrients and vitamins, although supplements can help to make up for what carnivores lack in their diet. Plus, fruits and veggies are simply good for you. Eating plant-based foods is associated with a lower risk of heart disease, Alzheimer’s, type 2 diabetes, and other chronic health conditions, according to Healthline." Which information am I to believe? Btw, are there studies to support the health benefits of the carnivore diet?

We do not need any carbohydrates to thrive. The minimal amount you have to consume to maintain health is ZERO. We do need fat and we do need protein to maintain health. Your heart, your brain and your nervous system cannot function without fat. When it comes to fiber, there was a study done on a group of peple dealing with chrobic constipation. There were three groups one was given a zero fiber diet, the other a moderate fiber diet and the last one a high fiber diet. The results showed that the lower the fiber, the easier it is to get rid of constipation. I encourage you to watch a lecture by Zoe Harcombe "what the fiber". When it comes to the microbiome we really know very little. The biggest thing in that field is the SCFA that do a great job in the colon and they are produced by the bacteria that feed off the soulable fiber. But it turns out that it's not the only way we can get them, we can also get them from diet and through ketone production within the body. There is no long term research on carnivore diet. There was a study recently on metabolic health and carnivore. It was mindblowing that sth like 85-95% of people reported improved metabolic heath. Comimg back to nutrients you can meet your body nutrient's needs 100% with animal based products ( if you include a variety) however there are many people that eat beef only, have been doing that for years and thrive. The main concer is usually vit C and it uses same metabolic pathways as glucose so when there is no glucose coming with your diet there is no competition to vit c and you can get enough from liver. If you're interested there's a great website Nutrition with Judy by Judy Choe, very informative. I wish you all the best and a lot of patience with your research. It takes time and effort but it's definietly worth it.

Also it's simply illogical that you will have no energy without carbs. When you are in ketosis your body gets energy from fat. Either fat you eat or fat you have stored in your body. When you run primarily on glucose and your insulin is high this is when your body cannot reach for thaf fat to use. It has to use up all the glycogen first ( it takes up to 36 hrs of fasting) and you'll feel like crap because the body wants you to eat some qick source of energy aka sugar. But if your body is back in it's primary metabolic state ( ketosis) you can have endless energy as long as you have some stored fat ( starvation is not what we're aiming for anyway). One great example of that is dr Anthony Chuffy who was a professional rugby player while being carnivore. Still is carnivore and looking at him you cannot say he's lacking energy.

Isn't it a fact that a great deal more land is used in producing crops for animals feed (and this also involves supplemental feed grown for pasture raised livestock) than would be just for human consumption alone, and that meeting the growing demand for meat as populations increase in the future is unsustainable? If so why is the argument being used that a plant based diet would be as (or more) complicit as an animal based diet in killing animals when considering deaths of wildlife in the fields during harvesting?

@patriciawalters6778
@patriciawalters6778 2 жыл бұрын
All you say is true, but does not change the fact that all complex carbs convert almost instantaneously to glucose in the digestive tract. The conversion actually begins in the mouth with salivary amylase. Most of the starch from say, a sweet potato, or whole grain bread, or brown rice is already glucose by the time it hits the stomach. The fact that blood glucose rises a bit slower does not change the reality that complex carbohydrates are digested and metabolized exactly the same way as pure glucose is once they hit the small intestine. Eating whole food complex carbohydrates is metabolically so similar to consuming straight glucose that it makes zero difference in the long term.

There is no single food or ingredient that 100% of the people can tolerate 100% of the time. There are people who cannot eat meat. It will make them sick. On the other hand, there are people who must be on a carnivore diet to keep from being sick. Such people appear to be few in the number. The majority of us seem to be able to tolerate all kinds of food and can go either way. All you must do is pick a healthy way of eating you can sustain. For me, I chose keto/mediterranean diet because it works for the things that ail me and I can stick to it. I concentrate on eating vegetables, fish, and eggs. Some dairy. I limit meat to a few meals a week. Further, I choose vegetables low in oxalates and lectins most of the time. I may be wrong, but it has to be better than the McDonalds diet. I have lost weight and my numbers have improved. Could I attain the same result with a vegan diet? Possibly but I don’t want to.

Look at what the vast majority of Americans ate in the 1800-1900’s when the incidence of heart disease, diabetes and cancer were all very low compared to today. Diets high in quality protein (animal) and saturated fat. Vegetarian diets are for the poor and malnourished and always have been. However if 1% of the population is going to feed the other 99%, then it has to be done on a large scale, not like it was a hundred years ago. The quality of the beef will not be quite as good from the feed lot as it would be straight from the pasture but it is still far better than any plant food. Chicken and eggs are not degraded by factory farming. The second problem is the issue with CO2. There is only 400 ppm in the atmosphere the amount there is critical. Much less and the planet would die because plants would not get enough. CO2 has NO warming effect (bogus green house gas propaganda) but actually has a slight cooling effect. CO2 is even used in some applications as a refrigerant.
