J-mac has a weird habit of not looking at the ball when he’s putting, how can he be sure that he’s hitting the ball correctly?
@GolfSidekick5 жыл бұрын
@@jordanakers2131 Looking down, he was getting big headworms and 3 and 4 putting almost every hole. We needed to remove the mind.
@dw3005 жыл бұрын
@@jordanakers2131 You should actually try it for a while. If your address setup is right, and your putting mechanics are solid, there's no need to look at it. You then turn putting into something more akin to throwing a ball which is a much more subconscious (better) action. You can read in Dr. Bob Rotella's book, Putting Out of Your Mind, about when Brad Faxon (i think) tried it and went out and shot a 59.

The ABP Method works...found (& planted) first feather on 17 tee box...then I proceeded to hit my tee shot straight into the fairway bunker. Stayed positive, FOCUSED ON THE NEXT SHOT, and stuck it 6 feet from the pin from 150 out.....then MISSED THE BIRDIE PUTT! 🤬 Stayed positive and wouldn't you know it, rolled in a 15 footer to end with a BIRDIE on 18! 💪😎 Golf is so mental 🔑

This is so relevant to a discussion in the comments of the last video I posted. Your short game cuts strokes directly, but it also takes loads of pressure off of your long game, resulting in less strokes indirectly for your long game. A viewer was arguing the strokes gained stats. I get it. If you duff 3 in a row off the tee, yeah, you're giving away strokes. But for bebinners and high handicappers, that's going to happen. But a good game inside of 100 yards can save your bacon so often. Proof here.
@amished0375 жыл бұрын
Your long game cuts strokes directly too. How much better would he have been on 1 and 3 without topping 4 shots between those two holes? The top on 1 caused a bogey from three really good shots for even a 4 capper. Not topping the tee shot on 3 would've saved an instant stroke there by being close to the green rather than 100 yards out and still topping it causing more strokes lost. Sure, save 2 strokes around the green if it costs you 3 more than normal to get there. The math doesn't back it up at any level. If you need to get way better in a week? Get your short game dialed in as that's the easiest to shave strokes off in a short period of time. If you want to become a 4 handicapper (or lower) you can't afford to top balls.

Another corker, Matt. Congratulations to J-Mac on the eagle. Brilliant shot. The only thing that could have made that better would have been had he been able to see it go in the hole, that would have resulted in some serious celebratory jumping up and down and high fives,(which is what I believe the kids call them). As I've got older and lost a fair bit of distance on my shots I've accepted and made peace with the fact that I won't hit as many greens in regulation as I used to and will happily lay up on a lot of par fours and fives. Par threes, however, for a long time were different beasts. I couldn't get out of the mindset of having to hit the green off the tee, with often disastrous outcomes from swinging way outside my comfort zone. Since I've sussed that it's actually ok to lay up on par threes I now hit a comfortable and, most importantly, straight tee shot and chip or pitch onto the green. It's the difference between hitting two shots I know I can pull off, or one where I haven't got a clue what's going to happen.

Wow! A JMac eagle and a Sister Shark. Another great lesson Matt. Thank you! I really Iike this idea. I’m more JMac and I feel like I would score better if I hit more fairways but in reality I would score better if my short game improved. I really need to get into the sweet spot approach distance and execute on that shot and hit more greens. The course near me started a program where you play 9 holes but start 25 or 30 yards out on each hole. As you improve you’re short game over time, you graduate to playing the course from 40 yards out and continue progressing until you eventually make it all the way back to the tee box. Curious what you think about this. I’m thinking this may be right up my alley.

I can totally relate to what you said at 18:12. I'm 16 and play off 9.7 and usually have just one hole that ruins my round. today I was +5 thru 11 and had a good chance to break 80. out of no where I sliced my tee shot way right when I usually play a draw and doubled the 12th hole. I was so demoralized I never came back from it and shot 83. I just cant seem to regroup and move on from bad holes.

We always give 1 freebie off the first tee. Also that feather could be deemed an alignment aid. P.s. to the world, I broke 100 for the first time today. I didn’t hit the ball nearly as well as I have in the past few weeks, but I was very pragmatic I hit my driver poorly, so I put it away on all but the longest holes. Before every par 4 I ask myself “can I stick it on the green with my 7 iron?” If yes then I tee off with my hybrid or 5iron. On par 5s I ask myself “can I reach the green in 2 with an average drive and a 3wood?” If no then I ask myself “can I get inside 150yds without my driver?” If yes then I hit my hybrid off the tee. It’s counterintuitive, but it works.

One thing that I've found in playing (disc) golf... is that when I mentally set up a shot and I execute it... but it was a poor decision or poor choice, I try to not get mad at myself - because I selected a shot, threw it exactly how I wanted, but it was a mental error... those are easier to fix than physical errors. The tee shot where J-Mac was aiming at the bunker that he was inevitably to hit it right into... he hit exactly the shot he was setting up to hit. He just made a mental error of underestimating his own ability.

Chris Hayward - I think it’s because when Matt is sitting at home, by himself, with a microphone close to his mouth (“proximity,” as opposed to the wireless mic clipped to his shirt on the course), it sounds quite different than the energy of being outdoors, with your friends, having fun, reacting to golf shots as they happen. It's not your swing because you won't know wnough about mechanis and if you take mechanics onto the course, as a low handicapper you are doomed. If you're a high handicapper then you are really doomed. The best is to PLAY GOLF. Try get the ball in the hole in as few shots as possible. Planning, exeuction. Fun. Of the swing is the problem, you have to see a pro. You cannot self diagnose

Matt, after binge watching your vids the last couple of days, I’ve come to the conclusion that big time golf club companies are ruining amateurs experience with the game today. They market to sell what’s sexy and strokes our egos-distance. They don’t market putters and wedges like they do drivers and balls. If one really wants to get better, you gotta practice getting the ball in hole as easy as possible from 125 yards in AND LEARN SPEED CONTROL ON THE GREEN. If golf companies marketed that, handicaps would lower and enjoyment would rise.

@GolfSidekick5 жыл бұрын
He doesn't own a driver. Otherwise I don't know who you're referring to. I don't hit driver on most holes under 380 yards because I don't need to - 2 iron sets up less than a 9 iron, PW or 50°. Didi hits driver every hole pretty much Steve hits driver as often as possible Teaski hits driver JMac doesn't own one and doesn't need one. Aside from claiming what my response will be, you haven't given really given any case for how a driver will benefit anyone. There are multiple factors as to why people don't hit driver - they don't own one, they have other financial commitments other than golf, they spray it all over the show, and are tired of losing balls, landing areas of a driver bring all the trouble into play, many factors.
