Our aunties used to soak the shells in urine to take the top coat off to see the markings and made them shiny 🐚 we used to camp at the bay when i was a kid, and my mum and i would find huge diamonds. They weren't worth any money back then. Nice trip down memory lane 💎

My family had a holiday in Flinders Island in 1972 and I remember how as a child, twelve yrs old, I was mortified by the shameful history of how Aboriginal people had been treated there and could feel the pain still etched on the land of their peoples' torturous treatment. A trip by a supply ship to Cape Barron Island took us to the mutton-birding community which was run by the remaining aboriginal people who were of mixed ancestry with British whalers & sealers. We also visited Kilikrankie mining area and found crystals. I was recalling these memories to someone just the other day....Thanks for this vid, Erin & Rob.

Hi Rob. Very interesting story. A point of fact; Botany Bay was never a colony. It was regarded as unsuitable by the first fleet in 1788 that chose to settled in Port Jackson also known as Sydney Harbour.

The place Botany Bay was as you have said, but until well in the 1800s the colony was called Botany Bay, especially in England. Some folk songs used it too. I think for a video for an global audience, Botany Bay is ok to use. Interesting subject though.

Thanks for another great video.🏆 It reminded me of when my wife and I looked for Topaz at O'Briens creek campground, Queensland. We spent ages digging and sieving and after going to the hardest to reach spot I found a big smooth lump like the one you found, I think it was 64 carats. Anyway, I had it faceted and mounted, and my wife wears it on a gold chain. It looks like a massive diamond!! Reckon you should do the same 😉 Cheers ....
