Ikr, the problem is that the evolution gimmick is a mess, in the original evolution become the main part of the story, but frontier erase them and the concept of partner and just turn the children into digimon, and then savers showsa branch evolution that isn't a 1 time bug, and then xros wars make the evolution meaningless again,

Yeah i thougt the same. I like that each Season is different from each other. Thats how it doesnt get boring unlike other Shonen or Shows who run with the same boring Characters or Themes for Years. In Germany Tamers is one of when not the most beloved Digimon Seasons. But i heard it wasnt great for the Japanese what i totally dont get.

Digimon is weird in the sense that most longtime fans easily accept that each universe is independent, but just as important as the others. Unlike say DC and Marvel that has some universes that are treats as 'less important'. I feel explaining the hows and ways of that would be more interesting that trying to unify everything fully. Dig a bit more into the idea of Yggdrasil and Homeros and other Serverworlds, and how the human/real world multiverse works wit it as well. Trying to get new fans with the Old Stuff Again isn't the best tactic.

The concept of children or young adults bonding with monsters or in Frontier case spirits, who with their bonds grow as people saving two worlds is present in every season. Even the odd one out Frontier shows the children becoming friends with Bokomon and Neemon.

a series with a focus on hopping between the various digimon continuities would be interesting, especially if they play up the emotional impact of things like how with the adventure cast, some of the pains they go through as a result of how their digivices work doesn't apply for every pairing of digimon and human partners across the multiverse. Playing up the separation and using that to build upon the old concepts and thematics, and express the love for the old titles. TBF tho, I'd argue this sort of story would work much better in a game, than an anime or manga tho beyond that though, some things are supposed to be consistent, the evolution stages are more descriptive than anything, they're not an innate element of the setting, as much as a difference in the culture of the setting i guess, like the same digimon can appear in multiple evolution stages, and that's been a thing for a long dang time, and things like jogress evolution is related, but not the same as fusion, but they work off of similar principles, enough so that they can be categorized together anyways. Unifying terminology is one thing I don't have an issue with, if they tried to jam everything together into one lore though, that would be a problem, and would cause a lot of things to break down within the franchise

Well then that's a problem with a simple solution. Use the multiverse route. That's what they did with Yu-Gi-Oh. In Arc V all the previous series like GX, 5Ds and Zexal were all split into various universes where one summon gimmick was the only gimmick in each verse and Arc V was where they all converged Easy fix.

Like a bunch of story parts are just reused, there's no other animated cutscenes aside from the intro, etc. It could've been better with higher production value but I guess both covid and budget cuts kinda kills it a bit.

I think they're re-thinking things a bit while also working on brand new projects no one knows about yet. I think it's clear though that the Adventure cast is the way to go.

personally, I'd rather they continue doing new things mostly, even though my favorite cast to this day is the adventure cast in last evolution (haven't gotten around to 02 the beginning), focusing entirely on that original cast worked well because of time and because it wasn't the norm for the franchise, what would be cool would be every second new series being something connected to a previous series, while the rest are all following the normal pattern of complete blank slate

I dont think the writers and executives are on the same page. The movies have this "stop liking digimon and move on with your life" theme to them, and the series are almost completely nonsensical in regards to the lore. If the novels, TCG, and games moving forward get more intergration things could work out.

Yeah, honestly felt like Last Evolution Kizuna's whole message of 'don't be afraid to move on from what you liked as a kid' fell pretty flat when us older fans really do what to see more from the franchise we grew up with. Heck, I was able to get my 1-year-old niece into digimon through the 2020 reboot. She freaking loved it and always danced when the opening played. For those wondering, her favorite digimon is seemingly Argomon. Not what I expected, but guess she really likes the creepy virus plant.

Adults who say quit your Hobbys are the worst. A Hobby makes a Person out even if they are Adults and anyone should be free to enjoy their Hobbys no matter if they come over as childish to others. Heck the Fans probably Love Digimon more then some of the Developers. Maybe they should make a big Asking around for Fans both in Japan and Europe and America what they wish for or want. What i want im not sure if Bandai can give me that really. Thats why i started writing my own Digimon Storys or Fanfictions. And i think maybe they would be better then the Last few Projects. I had high Hopes for Ghost Game but the Show then turned to mediocre. The Reboot well the Action and Fights were better but the Story should been the same. At least Liberator seems to be loved. I actually really enjoyed the 2020 reboot , it was actually so scary at times and how they brought in some characters like tk , was nuts , it's Digimon adventure just a different story , it's best case scenario and I don't know what ppl want but I legit still have My blue digivice ( original and my tags and crests as well as all my human figures ( original 1999 figures including mimi and Joe from the deluxe pack) and all the Digimon transformers ) even have the angewomon one , birdramon , kabuterimon , greymon , gururumon and angemon and magnaangemon and deep cut the silphymon /aquilamon /janky gatoman transformer, metalgururmon war greymon , blackwargraymon , and all 7 rookie Digimon and then the standing tailmon that winks lol so I'm a superfan and appreciate the 2020 reboot and its focus on the angel Digimon, we were so spoiled with tri ( which ppl hated too ) and last evolution we got new digivolutions for metalgerurumon and wargraymon and we got O2 the beginning which was actually good I enjoyed it and makes Davis himself but very likable they were all so likable and even the theme of " anything you want " nothing about him , makes you look at the friendships in your life where you are available for anything anytime and who just takes from you without being the same in return or even getting a little of what you give, we are so spoiled that it grew with us too! Digimon adventure 1999 I was 9-10 years old Digimon adventure 02 2000-2001 , 10-11 years old Digimon adventure tri 2015 25-28 years old ( but was set in 2005-2006 I was 15 and 16 years old ( roughly chosen children, age as them in tri) Last evolution ( 2019 they are in their 20s in this for sure ( Joe and gomamon's relationship as Joe gets more responsibility as he gets older was so real , imagine having a Digimon and trying to make rent and groceries and missing work to go fight Digimon like when you were a kid a the fate of the world was on your shoulders, then more chosen children as they got older , and then the digiegg forms basically sideways digivolutions how I explain it to ppl I could go on forever

It was a fun new experience to see what the story could look like. Told differently. But we loved Digimon 01 because of the backstory and that’s where they failed. They definitely could make Digimon 01 like Tamers and give it a real story.

However, multiverse unifications don't tend to work well, especially for franchises with multiple series and over a decade old. Comic have tried this several times (with very poor results). Sonic is currently going through something similar with sega wanting to unite all Sonic Universes in a way for them all to make sense with each other (....its not working). can it be done well? i believe so, but it a very tight balancing act that most fail. and from what I've seen of bandai, I don't trust that they'lll stick the landing.

a big part of digimon's identity has been the freedom to do different things with each new project, each new series doing something new with the existing ideas, re-framing them to tell a new story, so I don't think they need to be consistent, just consistent in there being content and consistent in the quality of that content, if not constantly improving. I do think standardizing basic terminology would be good tho, using the japanese terms for more things that got localized weirdly originally, like using the japanese stage names, as presently, it's inconsistent across the media, and the japanese stage names serve the themes of digimon better than most of the english ones, though I could also reasonably see them replacing the last few, with the apocryphal super ultimate/ultra stage being ascendant or something, instead, and perfect feels out of place, and gives a false idea of finality, and if i was in charge of the localizations, i would have named it mega instead, and kept ultimate, as it's supposed to be the final stage, and that's what the word means, and when the super ultimate stuff comes up, ascendant makes a lot more sense then when it's going beyond the max essentially, but with perfect already being there, it gives that sort of vibe to ultimate already. but regardless, of what terms they pick, they need to stick to them, with the evolution methods even moreso, because in 02 for example, jogress is used for the new method of evolving by putting 2 digimon together, and it is called that because it's a joint progress to the next stage, but it's explicitly called out to be different than how omegamon does it, and like, yeah, the method is different, one is directly a feature of the digivice and one is something that took extremely special circumstances to make happen, and was not something the digivice was capable of itself, but we still don't know for sure if that's actually why they're different, or if it's just that they're not going up a stage because ultimate is the max and wargraymon and metal garurumon are already ultimates, who fused together became another ultimate, who is sometimes considered an ultra/super ultimate digimon, but super ultimate/ultra isn't always canon, and in the english localizations, there's no difference generally, and both are called DNA Digivolution or just fusion, and then luckily DigiXros is pretty clearcut, except for the fact it's also referred to as DigiFuse sometimes, when the type of fusion omegamon is, is also called that sometimes codifying the digimon multiverse in a way similar to how DC and Marvel give names to the various continuities would also be helpful, as while we know digimon exists in a multiverse, we do have some conflicting sources on whether some media share the same continuity as each other, like whether or not digimon world re;digitize is in the same continuity as the rest of the digimon world series, if they're from the same human world, but are playing out in different digital worlds, or if they're in completely different continuities

Adventure 2020's Major pitfall is exactly the focus on action. Digivolution used to be plot related and relevant, but in 2020 they just evolved when they needed to. Both the adventure reboot and ghost game suffer from the use of the episodic structure, concentrating major plot points in the last three episodes leaving the series feeling rushed and unfinished. Ghost game didn't even show gammamon's dark mega and their DNA digivolution. The movies, on the other hand, do a poor job because they're unoriginal. A new digidestined arrives and their partner is evil and the world is doomed. It's the plot of Tri, kizuna and 02 the beginning (which is just lame btw)

02 The Beginning I would consider to be the one with the better plot of the 3. If that's how you're judging them cos Ukkomon was never evil, Ukkomon was acting on a lack of understanding with Lui and vice versa. If anything The Beginning suffers from NOT capitalizing of it's themes of bonds. Not only was it the perfect time to finally give the other Jogress their Megas as a way to further prove that the bonds between the 02 kids and their digimon were not the product of Ukkomon pairing kids and digimon. It at least wraps up nicely by having Lui and Ukkomon talk to each other at the end and vow to get to know each other properly and become real friends like the 02 kids and their digimon. Kari was literally the antithesis to the whole "you're only partners because Ukkomon made it so" and they didnt even bother doing much with that.

While I agree with the ghost games criticism, the point about Arcturusmon and Proximamon not being in the show makes more sense when you realize the staff at the show had no Knowledge of these digimon and only learned of them about pubilc did. Bandai didn't really communicate with the anime staff and gave them only the first set of dim cards, so by the time the one with those two came the staff was likely already finished with the show.

Id like a Frontier remake. With an older cast. Same characters just older. Theres never been a Digimon series with a cast thats over 18. Data Squad doesnt count bc theyre all sixteen. And Frontier has a special place in my heart bc its a concept thats never been done. Humans becoming digimon and the digivice designs were great.

yes and no, tamers also had humans becoming digimon, but in that case, they didn't become the digimon from scratch, they merged with their digimon, which, given that digimon don't really die, the fact that the ancient spirits were still around meant that they were alive in a way, and it had been expressed that they still had some sentience the humans needed to contend with, they were fusing with existing digimon as well beyond that, on the age thing, in last evolution, most of the cast was above 20, and in savers, yoshino was 18, though Masaru and Norstein were only 14 I do think that a digimon story where it's all adults could be interesting, but I feel like a good chunk of the premise behind digimon just lends itself too well to a young cast, the most solid core theme of the franchise as a whole is growth, growing up in age, learning from your experiences, the growth you nurture in others, that's digimon's heart and soul, and a lot of the growth that happens after you've become an adult is just, a lot less visible, and a lot more difficult to make a thematic parallel out of with the evolution, evolution in digimon, in japanese, the "champion" stage is actually called "adult" and "rookie" is called "chilld" for a reason, they're growing up a story focusing on adults would either need to replace that heart with something equally solid, or use it in a different way, with frontier for example, it focused a lot more on things like the circumstances that can lead to positive and negative growth, and the introspection needed to make a conscious effort in guiding how you grow, as well as a bit more of things like growing your relationships with those around you. One way I could see an adult series working rather well is if the human world and digital world are in conflict directly, the protags using human made tools created to fight digimon (by turning into them), but instead learning to understand the digimon more as they go, focusing on repairing broken mentalities and relationships in order to grow more positively in spite of past negative growth, would also give more opportunity to play with concepts like the fact that the digital world is digital, and the possibilities of that, taking notes from Izumi and hacking the digital world, as that's a concept that definitely feels more at home with a cast of adults than a preteen cast and would explain how the human to digimon transformations would work

that's literally the worst example for something like that, the original digimon adventure, they were definitively both, they had personalities of their own, and were effected by their human partners and their human partners were effected by them, data squad also got a significant amount of characterization with the partner digimon, xros wars, some got characterized, yes, but they tended to be rather shallow compared to what came before, which makes sense when there were just so many of them, even for the few they focused on, there was no way to get quite the same level of deep character exploration we got with some of the other series.

I will say, I think the 02 epilogue really negatively impacted Digimon Adventure because suddenly the future of Adventure wasn't an open book anymore, and obviously that is going to alter the writing of future projects. Tri probably would have been a very different show if the epilogue didn't exist. So, while it seems like an interesting idea, I hope something like this doesn't impact the creative potential these series could have by combing lore

Bandai only have themselves to blame for poor sales on products like vpets. So much false scarsity and prerelease only sales habe made it hard for fans, especially younger ones. And with almost all digimon apps they are abandoned after a couple of years. I would put money on that happening to the vital lab soon sad to say. They have been fumbling the card game too.

Seeing everything connected would be interesting but also weird. I think they need to create more concrete rules/lore around the digital world(s) or at least expand on the "servers" concept. Wheras Yggdrasil is one specific server where adventure 01 and 02 take place and say (taking the two server names from world 3) the Asuka and Amaterasu servers are where tamers and frontier take place. These servers or worlds can be connected but are treated as their own worlds allowing for easy crossovers but can keep events separate. Ie the black gears and dark masters from 01 werent big enough threats to threaten the Asuka or Amaterasu servers thus there was no real reason for tamers or frontier to be aware of what happened within the digital world. Although with that in mind, the real world stuff does need to have a singular continuity... The appearance of Greymon in the city and the like from the movie/ova's could be something occasionally referenced.

I believe this can be huge, if they do it correctly. Pokemon is a hot steaming pile of ____, besides the games- but even the games aren't that great anymore in my opinion. The trading card game is overrated, and was really fun during it's start in the late 90s. The show, and any games based off of Digimon have the potential to get as big as Pokemon if done right... They can focus on the trading-playing card game when the series and games pick up traction...

Up to Savers we always had great pacing and world building, try more of that. One more problem is marketing/reach. I somehow didn't have any idea we had another game incoming, I'm cautiously hyped for a game centered on Olympus XII. In conclusion, treat niche as niche and hope it grows to the limits of niche. Forcing it to go mainstream only serves to alienate the loyal fans that you built, as we have plenty of examples nowadays.

I love digimon. Recently got into the card game as of last year and that boosted my love for the franchise even more. I hope for it to become as huge as any other big franchise. I want it to bloom. Don't care how. Just give more content I can play with. Especially games... Survive was such a flop for me and I am CRAVING a new Digimon game. I don't care if it becomes a Pokémon clone or whatever, just get your name on the board, give us something so that we can keep up our interest. The card game at the moment is my favorite hobby and I'm going to locals regularly to play with the people there. It's so fun to interact with digimon and just have fun.

i feel like they have always been connected, aside from the digital world being so big and not really explained in too much detail its obvious they are all connected already through some sort of digital nexus. it was clearly like this in cross wars when every main protagonist showed up, and there already is the appmon digimon universe stuff which has wargreymon appearing. so the digital world is connected to alternate universes digital worlds, i think it works fine and isnt really different than how it was already. they just wanna lay it down in concrete now

I feel like they could make a pretty decent series based on the OG Digimon World and just call it the same thing. Then you follow the protagonist as he gets a new Digimon to join the city each week to make the city better. Over time you could have additional tamers get transported there to help link the stories if they wanted like they did with Next Order. Once the city is established you could move on to other concepts like the Royal Knights or something. The issue with Digimon currently in terms of anime to me personally is that they seem to not want to establish a new strong narrative and world for their series to take place in. If they took their time to create a series with staying power I could see it becoming very successful. The old cast from adventure that keeps getting re-used has become stale by this point and it is evident that rehashing their stories is not establishing a new fan base.

I just want more Digimon Tamers content. No idea how that would work in this new universe considering it takes place in the "Real world" The Tri approach would be a perfect fit with Tri. I also think that trying to make everything connected will only hold back the franchise in terms of creativity. Many companies have tried to make their own "Marvel Universes" and ended up failing miserably. I've never known anyone who couldn't enjoy Digimon because the game or anime they played/watched weren't connected to others. I personally like how different all of them can be in continuity. I think the overall reach of the franchise is the problem because it feels like all of the content being made mainly applies to the first group of kids or other stuff that would mainly appeal to older fans. I feel like I have to deep dive in order for me to figure out that a new Digimon thing is being made. I think they should let off the gas on the nostalgia of the first season and make new good games and anime with efforts to market and reach people. If they keep making stuff related to what people grew up with, then they're going to remain stuck only getting views from older fans. Also feels like trying to appeal to new Tik Tok kids is a lost cause at this point of time. I would love if we got a more mature Digimon anime similar to Tri that had a brand new cast. I think stuff like Palworld proves that there is a large fanbase out there waiting for a proper, more mature competitor to Pokemon. I think the Digimon creators are putting their efforts in the wrong areas.

They have a solid game in digimon world 1 last time. They should have expend it on that route during that time instead of going turn based and only comeback to it during digimon world redigitize. While i luke digimon world 2 and 3 and some if the ds digimon story, their focus become haywire. Digimon in the first place is a taming/training simulator. If they go with their root, it would have been a success today especially with so many ai assistance programming and 3d graphics available.

I understand they want new fans, but I think focusing on older fans is the better way to go about it due to the times we live in. Fans spread the news and hype, and that attracts others. Also, they should collaborate with other companies to get people who weren't originally fans to look into it. Something I found annoying about Digimon games is that they never made one where you could create your own character. With games like Ark and Palworld, Digimon has a perfect blueprint laid out for them. Here's my idea for a game off the top of my head: a game similar to Palworld. You can catch Digimon and do fusion, or whatever they call it when humans either fuse with their Digimon or turn into Digimon. You can also play the card game in the game. There shouldn't be too much focus on the story because we have enough Digimon story-focused games. The focus should be on gameplay and things to do. Make sure gameplay is smooth in everything, from combat to travel and menus. No stiff gameplay like in the other games.

I personally dont think Digimon should try to be interconnected, one thing I've always enjoyed about Digimon is how each series tell it's own story about growth. The attempt to make it all interconnected feels more money motivated than passion led. The TCG being where it all goes to be interconnected is a much better approach as it lets each unique aspect of Digimon be tied together through mechanics and gameplay while maintaining the recognizability of Digivolution as we all know it.

briefly looking through the comments I'm seeing that generally most people are either against or neutral towards any sort of unification attempts. I personally love the fact that digimon traditionally hasn't been super centralized, as it allows for greater creativity in projects I wouldn't mind perhaps an attempt to keep digimon within the established evolution stages in order to avoid things like frontier and xros wars, but an attempt to make everything the same going forward seems boring you could use lore to tie things like evolution, stages and digivices to all other universes by saying that these things are core to the digital world, using the digital world as more of an expanded multiverse rather than a collection of individual and completely separate worlds, all while still allowing for more creative methods of evolution, different uses of digivices and connecting to different parallel human/analog worlds

I think they need to find a focus first. Even with this project reboot they keep trying to appeal to everyone which is spreading their resources thin. It’s hard to bring in a new audience when each individual project appeals to a different person. The only IP to be able to accomplish reaching so many people are those that are already popular enough to have a large core audience.

Digimon in the first place is based from tamagochi. U get an egg, u train it and battle. Its their mistake in the first plave to go turn-based. While i do like their turn based games, it remove the essence of digimon in the first place. Just b3cause a game is popular, they ahould not followed the trend during that time. Ngl I think that Digimon isn’t as popular in the west because the franchise is all over the place, not really knowing what it wants to be, and it can often turn people away from the franchise as a whole. Growing up, I remember digimon adventure being well known, but nobody knew about the other shows unless they were hardcore fans of the franchise. I remember really liking to adventure, but I wasn’t big of fan of the other shows that followed. Some of them didn’t have the same vibe as Adventure and felt like a different franchise all together. It was just hard to keep track of it because every season was pretty much a reboot of the franchise. You have to learn how that new world works and get accustomed to a new group of characters/mechanics. I think that they should have stuck with the adventure, format. They could have swapped out characters along the way/throughout the seasons, introducing new characters. Similar how they did with the Pokémon anime. If you take a look at popular shows in the genre like Pokémon, they stay with Ash and familiar characters along their journey throughout multiple regions and multiple seasons. And when it comes to their games, they stick to a formula that works, and the games are high-quality for the most part, unlike a lot of Digimon games. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t think that having spin offs and trying new things is bad, but I think that they should’ve had a main line series that was strong enough to familiarize people with the franchise so that spinoffs can be successful on their own

It's time to yapp 😮‍💨 The digimon franchise is in life sport right. now the last game was survive a game that announced in 2018 got delayed and released in 2022 that's 4 years and got mixed reviews because bandai doesn't know how to-do advertising 😑 The story game digimon story cyber sleuth released in 2015 for the ps vita the sequel Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory released in 2017 for the ps4 and we got the complete collection for switch and windows in 2019 that's five years of cyber sleuth and they announced that they are working on a new story game in 2017 but now we are in 2024 that 7 years of waiting for something may end up being mid at bast (this is not going to be the next BOTW) The world title got fucking shafted the most. they got one game that is Digimon World: Next Order in 2016 for the ps vita got released in 2017 for the ps4 and the switch and windows in 2023 that's 6 to 7 years gap (and no digimon cyber sleuth DLC doesn't count they are using the same (assets That 2 ps vita games be holding this game franchise for 10 years Vital Bracelet are dead in this year so goodbye pulsemon and ghost game and seekers we will remember you in the next Memorial event 🙃 And then announced some movies for Nostalgia Bait 😑 And now there focusing on the TCG with no official online game (like duel links and .master duel) And Digimon Liberator an online comic and web novel with no anime adoption In a year people are quieting card games like yugioh 😭 I'm a digimon fan but Like what is bandai cooking here
