It was only a matter of time till I revealed my true nature as a huge Digimon fan. Unfortunately for me, I didn't get to play that many Digimon games growing up, being a Nintendo kid and all. So today, let's explore the one I've probably played the most : Digimon World DS !

Always wanted this game, Dawn and Dusk, Lost Evolution, and Super Xros Wars Red and Blue to be ported over to Switch so fans can get a chance to play the DS library and have the two last games to be localized. Bandai needs to do this especially since finding these old DS cartridges can be hard for most.

I was fully obsessed with this game for a like a whole year of my childhood and I've literally never heard anyone talk about until now! Fun retrospective, covered a lot of my fond memories of the game :)

This one and its sequels ended up being some of my most replayed monster collecting games, funnily enough. Digimon World DS specifically falls squarely into the "love it but wouldn't recommend it" category because of the laughable writing. I actually really like the Pagumon bit a LOT in concept, as it incorporates various Digimon specific concepts to tell a pretty heartwarming redemption arc, but the specific way it's written muddles the whole thing. The game also ends pretty abruptly, which was kind of weird and surprising when I first beat it. I never noticed the huge jump in power level because I always end up going overboard with digivolving and degenerating, which is probably why it felt so sudden. In any case, I still return to it pretty regularly. Since it never came to Europe, I originally played it on an emulator, but I managed to snag some copies of all 3 DS games in recent years. Worth it!

100% agree with most of what you brought forward, there's defo a lot of charm in World DS but replaying through it, you can really see the cracks show up. Still got a special place in my heart, that's for sure though. :>

I absolutely loved this game as a kid. My brother was actually the one who bought it, but he ended up handing it down to me after he had beaten it. I loved the battle system and thought the sprite art was gorgeous. I can definitely agree that it doesn't 100% hold up as an adult, but I still love it all the same. Great video!

I prefer this kind of art than the cyber sleuth art. I immediately dropped that game after i played for just an hour or two. I would have continued playing if that game had an art like this game but an updated graphics and i've never played this game. My fave was digimon world 3

SPOILER WARNING!!! I love how Alphamon is the villain in this game and later in Cyber sleuth they're helping you save the digital world and Human world after working with them as Kyoko. I'm also glad I found and played this game before finishing the Cyber Sleuth Story.

I also owned this game, and absolutely loved it. My only nitpick with it as a kid was the fact that i found the good version of the boss insanely hard because it just had an unbelievable amount of stats

Every time I replay this game, I always just speed my way through it until I get to the point where I can degenerate my Digimon. Then the power-gaming fun begins, mwahaha! Love this video, and it's really cool to find more people who like this game. I need to play it again some time soon so that I can do a review video too. It's been on my To Do list for a while. (Also, I am 100% that person who loves a good grind-fest. ^^;)

Sadly it does not go up much. I can only recommend the first Digimon World game for PS1. And that game has a rather cruel new player experience. So if you are not very patient with trial and error I recommend looking up some guides. But with guides or lots of experience: It's pretty solid and even holds up pretty good.

I think the fact Jogress has to awkwardly be done via breeding is what prevents me from going back to this vs Dawn and Dusk, I should really get over that at some point since its been probably over a decade since I played DS but I play dusk every other year or so.

All of the Digimon DS games are amazing have them all still besides this one but we have emulators for that since it is near impossible to get these days. Only one annoying thing is some of the digimon need to be traded in order to digivolve from what I remember and I dont know if any emulators can do that between programs.

The holy digimon that looks like a robot, traumatized me. To this day I can't see that digimon without having flashbacks. It was just another day, gotten to that point in the game where you feel like "that guy", run up and I'll knock you down with my mons kind of energy. No matter how strong I am whenever I replay the game, I always do 1 Damage! I'm not lying about that trauma. Love the game(Never beaten the final boss).

I really enjoyed this game, but yeah as everyone else is saying the writing was... Subpar. Like it simultaneously tried to be mature and also kid-friendly and just ended up being a mess as a result. Like the villains being called "Bad Tamers"? That feels so harmless. I liked it mechanically, and also enjoyed Dawn and Dusk that followed it. It broke my heart to learn how many other games in this line just never got released outside Japan, like Lost Evolution of the Xros Wars RPGs.

Hey, just found your channel, for some reason I never got a Digimon game until Cyber Sleuth even though I've used a Digimon pfp since even before then. I personally loved Tamers the most, and I feel you on being unable to get Omnimon, until the Switch version, Beelzemon BM was a pre order bonus. Also, I don't mind grinding myself, but be warmed if you want certain teams in Cyber Sleuth, there's an awful lot of grind unless you can get multiples of the Tactician USB to hasten the process.

Aaaah yeah that's a big fear I had when it comes to doing CyberSleuth in the future. Seeing the estimated play time and hearing people's tales about grinding got me fucked up haha !

@@maraganger I think the games themselves would still be rather long, even without grinding, but I can't say for sure. I've beaten both games twice btw, I don't know my PS4 times but my Switch collection was around 200 hours for both games, but I did go for 100% in 1, not Hacker's Memory though. I don't know how long/difficult it would be if you were to just ignore the side stuff and just use your favorite Digimon though, but since some sidequests literally can increase your maximum potential party size, I wouldn't recommend skipping all of them, if indeed you do decide to play them. Also, IDK if this is important to you or not, but you can pick a male or female avatar in Cyber Sleuth 1, but your avatar is only male in Hacker's Memory. Also translations for both games are a little wonky, as is Digimon Survive (should mention, Survive is not nearly as long) Btw, sorry if I'm infodumping, I tend to go overboard sometimes trying to give recommendations.

@@maraganger Yeah, I myself tend to like longer games, usually JRPG or open world games, and I usually lean towards completion. Although my solution I've found is to balance out long games with short games. Because my other favorite genre is retro 2d platformers, like Mega Man or Donkey Kong Country, which are usually short and light on story. It helps clear my head and prevents games from blending together.

My goodness. The battles seem to be time consuming in some way in every Digimon World game. Also my favorite Digimon are Veemon, Veedramon, Monzaemon, Metalmamemon, and Sylphimon.

I've played Digimon World 1 but during my late teens so I didn't have the nostalgia for it. I definitely resonate with it's design being closer to the virtual pets but damn, losing my good Digimon over time felt like genuine heartbreak.

Late to the party but really enjoyed this First digimon game I got was World 3 for the PS1. Second I ever got was World Dawn which I still proudly play on my ds when I can ♡ so it's interesting to see the original world for DS and how it's very similar to what I played. As one would hopefully expect XD The absolutely INSANE amount of time I grinded a team to have moves from different breed lines, max out level, degenerate, digivolve BACK to the mon I wanted in the first place, etc was ludicrous XD But worth beating that rainbow type in the end. Will need to try similar in this game some day if I can get a copy

I tried to watch up to were I am in the game without getting spoiled...I failed XD So to get Omnimon should I have chosen Tsunomon as my starter and used the secret code to get Dot Agumon and digivolve them to Mega? Cause I chose Koromon and I don't think I want to restart when I'm so close to finishing the game :)

I think you can get the scan data of Darkdramon in the post-game and the de-evolve them into Gabumon but I'm no sure.

@@diamonshade7484 Not exactly. Yes, the next games reset your Digimon's Lv to 1 but the stats are not those of a Lv1 Digimon. In fact, they can increase so much after degenerating that they can be 999 at Lv 1. This bug on the other hand keeps the Digimon Lv but resets the stats as if the Digimon was an in-training Lv 1 Digimon, even if It's a mega level Digimon.
