Ahhh everyone, thank you so much for watching along with me as per usual! It's great to see that so many rate this one as much as I did... even without knowing (which you've all kindly educated me on by the way, so thank you! ❤) the song really drew me in and like many of you said, transported me elsewhere... now understanding the full emotion he was evoking, it's no wonder it touched me as it did! Music, the universal language... 🌏❤ And thanks for explaining the rainstick to me too! Kobyz! I shall remember that ❤️

This is my absolute favourite of his. Over all the pop stuff and operatic stuff, this folk song is just beautiful! He puts SO much into it, as always, great reaction!! No water, it's a rain stick, usually a cactus stalk and the needles are pushed in and then ends are capped off, so it sounds like rain/running water, hence being called a rain stick.

Bethany. I agree. It's one my favourites as well. Except for all my ,other favourites. 😂😂😂😂😂😂.

There are also small pebbles inside the rain stick. When the stick is slowly tipped back and forth, the pebbles "running" back and forth create the illusion of rain.

At Tokyo Jazz Festival 2020 - When Kazakhstan belonged to Russia (In 1916/17, First World War), young Kazakhs were forced, by the Russian Empire, to leave their homes and fight 35 years until their total massacre. The story of one of these young people, who marches in despair to a war that is not his, in addition to the sadness of leaving his parents, elders, with no one to take care of and the certainty that he will never see the mountains ("tau") of Kazakhstan again. this wonderfully sad song! In addition to Dimash's talent, we have a wonderful setting and two fantastic musicians: Olzhas Qurmanbek, Master at playing the Qobyz (Kobyz, which looks like a violin: An instrument of Cazak-Turkish origin, sacred in Kazakhstan) the other who plays the “Rainstick” ! A supernatural journey to the plains of Kazakhstan through Music!

The kobyz is a very old two stringed Kazakh folk instrument and it’s spread among Kazakhs. The man who is playing the kobys in Dimash’s performance is the best on this instrument and a very good friend of Dimash. His name is Olzhas Qurmanbek. You often can hear this instrument when Dimash sings in his native tongue like Samaltau, Qairan Elim or ÒmirÒter and at the stage performance in Stranger. Samaltau is about a young Kazakh who was forcibly recruited by Russia in 1916. He was forced to leave his home country and his elderly parents to go to war (WWI) and does not know what awaits him there as a soldier or how his elderly parents are to manage without him. I love this song. This song is really special. You literally can hear the wind blowing, the storm and the howling of the wolf. I suggest always turning on the subtitles. Almost every song on his channel has many subtitles for you to choose from. Normally there are no vocal acrobatics in his native songs and I love them a lot. In every of this songs you can hear the great love and devotion to his country and his people. Another good one is from his Digital concert: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5-0k6B4a7CLg6c In case you want to react to another beautiful MV, I suggest Òmir Òter (Ode to Life). This MV was presented of the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence. Also a must see and please switch on the subtitles. A masterpiece. Goosebumps! What a beautiful song. With very good lyrics. I can’t discribe how much I love this song🥰. Òmir Òter: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bofVdnmmqpmGbqM Another video is from the digital concert in January 2021 kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIvKap2Bh7N2fJo Greetings and love from Germany👋❤️

Dimash se transporta al campo, está sentado cantando dentro de una habitación nómada. Me encantaría estar en ése momento. De hecho la versión del Digital Show, tiene efectos visuales como él lo imagina. Dimash plática historias como antiguamente se hacía.

Quobyz ( koe biz) the instrument. Used by the ancient indigenous nomadic people of the steppes of Kazakhstan, the tradition passed down through the ages. The bowstring and strings are made from horsehair and gut, creating its unusual sound. The horse, a spiritual icon, beloved, fermented mare's milk a national drink. Hope this helps, I've enjoyed your reaction ! Patty

Samaltau, that translates “mountain breeze” is a kazakh folk song - written from the perspective of a young kazakh, leaving behind his beloved natal steppe and his elderly parents, when drafted by force by the russian empire to shed his blood in the russian army. (a tsar’s edict in 1916 ordered males of non-Russian origin aged 19-43 from the province that the Russian Empire annexed in 1867 - that included territories of today’s Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan - to join the russian empire`s army ; this led to famine in the territories where the men were taken away from, and to a huge revolt against the tsar, revolt which was stifled brutally.. This performance was during the quarantine from Dimash’s home studio with two musicians. The instrumentation, the Kobyz and the rainstick with Dimash’s voice create an atmosphere so mystical and enchanting that takes you to that place where the story occurred . 🔝🔝👏❤️🎤🎻

Great to see you back. This is probably one of my all time Favorites. It just transports you somewhere even before you know the lyrics..... I have read that the kobyz was so sacred/mystical to the Kazakh people, at one point only their shaman, were allowed to play the Kobyz ❤
