Have you thought about some brass cups for where the sole pins and latches go into the bulkheads/mast step. To stop wear on the wood and also seal the wood where the holes are to prevent water ingress into the wood. Enjoy watching this project progress.

Watching all the time and care you put into this build, not to mention custom material and fabrications, sadly seems to make a fair cost of the product well beyond the means of most folks for such a high quality jewel of a little boat. Even sadder is probably the proliferation of unappreciative customers in today’s market. Great watch as usual.

So good! I'm now going to have to pull up the cedar flooring in my skin on frame canoe, which is just tied to the ash ribs, and fasten them together so I can pull the floors out. All of your videos are instructive and inspirational. What a beautiful boat! Great job, Bob--Steve is going to be so happy to use Victoria.

Beautiul work, so satisfying to follow. The latches were clever. Only question is why not cover everything in epoxy, especially the floor boards?
@TheArtofBoatBuilding
@TheArtofBoatBuilding Жыл бұрын
I mentioned in the video why not to varnish the sole. Coating it with epoxy is the same result. It will make the sole slippery when wet. The sole or the deck of a wooden boat should never be varnished.
@ZeffyZ
@ZeffyZ Жыл бұрын
@@TheArtofBoatBuildingRight, but how about just some anti-skid? The type that's used on skateboards is relatively cheap, lasts long and very grippy. It even protects the wood from wear. With the sole constantly in wet (even fresh water from the rain), it seems ideal to epoxy each piece (even screw holes) before assembling.

Hi Bob, wonderful work, beautiful boat 😊 Just wanted to ask a small detail; if I may ☝🏼 how do you clean the masking area spills? White primer onto varnish!?! Many thanks
@TheArtofBoatBuilding
@TheArtofBoatBuilding Жыл бұрын
I use the tip of a single edge razor blade. First score the intersection of the paint and varnish then gently scrape the unwanted paint. Careful sand lightly and touch up with some varnish with an artist brush.
