I know you covered the edp, but I’d love to get your thoughts on the rerelease of Moustache 1949. I just got it the other day, and I’m addicted. It’s like a visit to the barbershop in a bottle, blasting the senses with the citric chemicals of an old-time aftershave/hair tonic before moving into a wonderfully rounded, powdery lavender that embraces the wearer.

Today's version of Eau Sauvage works for me. It's fresh, citrusy, but with a mature, refined vibe. Think a summer day in a bottle: lemon sunshine, jasmine flowers, vetiver grass. The main difference between vintage and modern is the oakmoss had to be removed for regulatory reasons. Oakmoss, for me, always dated the fragrance and made it too heavy for me to wear. So I actually prefer the current version. It projects just right for a gentleman and lasts deceptively long. I often catch a beautiful scent in the air in the early evening and realize it's the Eau Sauvage I sprayed on in the morning.

I second all of this. It’s summer in a bottle, with a sheen of crisp elegance. I won’t even bother seeking out vintage bottles, since the freshness is so crucial to the effect of Eau Sauvage. Citrus doesn’t age well.

A great fragrance. As a youngster in the mic 70's, I got a bottle as a gift and it's been my favorite ever since. The description given is spot on. I look for the fragrance profile of Eau Sauvage in modern colognes, but haven't found anything that really compares to this timeless classic.

Just had my first experience with Eau Sauvage yesterday and my perfumer at Sephora made me a sample which I am wearing today! Love this fragrance and love it's classic and elegant scent! My first boyfriend wore the original Eau Savage and it was very magnetic! I would recognise it anywhere, very evocative and can transport me back to that time instantly! The new Savage is loved by many but the original is in a league of its own! This was how Dior became such a leader in Perfumery.....their women' fragrances were also amazing, Diorella was the female version of Eau Savage, Sicilian Lemons and herbs one of the best perfumes for Summer, then my own signature scent was Original Miss Dior, has no resemblance of the many present day Miss Diors! The dry down on this original Miss Dior was very gentle and feminine and Diorissimo was more for the evening and was muskier. That perfumer was with his weight in Gold! What a legend.

Dior Eau Sauvage is my signature scent. Lucky I’ve been able to procure some vintage bottles and that scent I absolutely adore. Daily I wear the latest release and indeed when spaying some on your clothes it lasts all day. In summer you don’t need to do this since projection increases. All in all a great timeless fragrance endorsed by none other than Steve Mcqueen and Alain Delon.

Adore this one. Yes the reform knocked the legs out from it, but it still to my nose is one of the very best designer spring/summer perfumes to be had: 6.8oz for $145 USD shipped right to my door. Excellent review as always. SOTD for me is Lapidus Pour Homme. Because more times then not the only school is the old school.

With all due respect I doubt your bottle from the 80s smells the same to the original scent. Even under the best conditions you'll lose most of the top notes in that time. I find the current formulation extremely pleasant and far from the watered down mess described in the video. I'm sure it's a much light version but it has plenty of projection and longevity for me. And I love putting it on and popping my bluray of Bullit on and imagining myself in a mustang on the California freeway in the 70s.

Me as probably most people can’t afford 3 or 4 100 dollar plus bottles of colognes. I can afford a few bottles of good lass expensive ones. This sounds like one I will get.

Nice video obrigado Max! Why don't you ask Junior Barreiros what he thinks if the In The Box clone of this classic? I'm wearing it right now and the interplay between the vetiver, oak Moss and citrus notes in the dry down is just lip smacking delicious! It's called Eau de Sauvegy and the clone house is In The Box. Unfortunately I don't believe it's available outside if Brazil but if you like I'd be happy to send you a decant.

I love Eau Sauvage, but I hate this „better buy the vintage“ bullshit!!! ES was and is a perfume which lives from the freshness of its components. The citrus top notes go off after a few (3+) years. And that is then just off-gone ES and not „the stronger older formulation“. 🙄 If you keep your 2012 and later bottles for some years, the collor will darken as well! 😉 I‘ve collected ES from each decade, in original, sealed packaging, and not even one of them was still fresh. Most people confuse the off-gone smell with „stronger/more powerfull/longer lasting/oakmossier/whatever... 🙄

If you knew what your were spraying on your skin, you would stop. Anyways, I have always gotten WAY more performance from any fragrance by spraying my clothes and sometimes on the back of my head.

@@merrychristmas2263 so many fragrance channels say they spray on clothes to extend the performance, and it does work. A lot of people say performance sucks on their skin because they either have dry skin, skin that absorbs the fragrance, rubs off, or sweat pushes it away from the skin or wears it down quicker. Spraying on clothes always works best for me.

Ok this is no doubt one of THE FINEST! fragrance I have ever smelt in my life, just one thing.....a fragrance over 9 years old is probably past it's best potency wise, I do have aftershaves that are over 18 years old that still smell the same, Versace Blue Jeans to be more specific but this has spent it's entire life in a dark cool place stored in the tin so it has the advantage

Hey Max, I purchased a 200ml of this from a department store and when I opened it, it was an edt splash with no atomizer. I returned it and told the sales staff. They gave me another 200ml, and it was another splash. Is your 200ml a splash or does it have a sprayer?

It was my dad's fragrance and my first one! Sadly, the present formulation has nothing to do with the original. I found a good substitute with Annick Goutal's Eau de Monsieur... Slightly different opening but after 15 minutes they're virtually indistinguishable to my nose

Yes, it's still there. My late Grandpa used to wear this, I mean the original, so when I bought a new bottle last year and asked my Grandma to smell she instantly got emotional and said yes, that's the one! I previously showed her the parfum version and she said that's defenetly not the scent she knew.

I saw a bottle of this from the 1970s for sale, but I read that old perfumes go off. This would be over 40 years old, so surely it won't smell like it did in the 1970s. Isn't it safer to buy new perfumes, even if modern guidelines in perfume formulation have tampered with the original formula.

I didn't appreciate this one when I first tried in some years ago...mainly because I had fragrance allergies or more than two decades, and it triggered those negative olfactory memories. Regardless, as much as I like it, I don't feel that it can hold a candle to Eau Savage Parfum (2011 edition). Cheers! Conversely, the under 30 crowd will probably not like this one because it's not sweet, gourmand, or project that department store DNA. In fact, many will say it smells dated or old-man'ish. Sad, but true.

I have been a dedicated user of Eau Sauvage since 1969. Unfortunately, they have changed the formula and even the bottle since then. The recent formula is a lot lighter in colour and milder. And the new bottle, am not so much a fan of it. I've looked and tried many, many fragrances for the past several years to find something that closely mimics the original scent but for me, nothing matches the clean, unpretentious male scent of the classic Eau Sauvage.! DIOR, please bring back the quintessential Eau Sauvage with the original elegant bottle!
