Hi! I am a musician, 31 years old, from St. Petersburg, Russia. I have the 2017 version. I have not smelled the 2012 version, the original and others. I took a tester in a local perfume store and put it on my hand. And it was an instant love. I saw that some people think the fragrance is too mature, but I totally disagree. Classic - yes, but not outdated or "old man's fragrance". I highly recommend giving the fragrance time. You have to get used to it and watch how it changes over time. The fragrance is stunningly beautiful, refined and unique. Every time I apply it, it plays with different colors. Sometimes it seems more bitter, sometimes creamy. Demachy has done an amazing job. It is the first fragrance where I could see a whole story and an attempt to tell something. I can say for sure that it is a fragrance for an advanced nose that can recognize beauty. It is not Dylan Blue, which is understandable from the first time and very straightforward (although the scent is also good and I have it). It seems to me that Eau Sauvage has a very intelligent mood. With it, you feel confident and calm. I think it is an underrated fragrance.

Nailed it. I only had a decant, which I wore throughout the winter of 2016 while traveling. By the time I came back around to purchase, it had been re-released but I took a chance and bought it. I was initially disappointed because it seemed completely altered but the familiar fragrance emerged in the dry down to greet me like an old friend. I have grown to appreciate the stages, as you related them, and love the new one as well. Would love to get my hands on the 2012 though...

Absolutely beautiful comparison, mate! I ordered the 2017 version which is gonna arrive soon. You went super deep into the way both formulations of the perfume evolve and broke down all the nuances. This is the exactly the kind of video that people like me would look for. Really really insightful video. Thank you :) My only question is, how well do you think the 2017 version would work as an everyday warmer weather fragrance?
@TheScentinel5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. Given the way it dries down, i still think some people could find it a bit cloying on a hot day. But i wear both during the summer anyway.

I have a 2014 and 2017 batch. I love the 2017 batch for daytime wear and reserve the 2014 darker scent for the evenings. The most frustrating thing about purchasing this is that most discounters use 2011 stock photo, without posting the release day or batch code of the one they're selling. Seems like false advertising to me.

There are a couple of legendary Christian Dior fragrances that I've fallen in love with: Fahrenheit and Eau Sauvage EDT. Fahrenheit still smells unique 32 years after it was launched. It's a bold and daring fragrance with a beautiful violet note. The original Eau Sauvage. It's not as potent as Fahrenheit, but it has an alluring and mysterious quality - a certain je ne sais quoi that is almost impossible to describe. It's no wonder that well-informed connoisseurs like Luca Turin, Roja Dova, Sali Hughes and Lee Kynaston rave about it. Eau Sauvage EDP (2017) smells different to the EDT. It's a classy scent that uses high-quality natural ingredients. You can easily pick out the individual notes: bergamot, vetiver, hedione and elemi - unlike Dior Sauvage, which smells synthetic and linear. Its popularity is one of life's most enduring mysteries.
@justaddlight5 жыл бұрын
That's what I heard about the 2017 release too. It's why I chose it over the 2012, in addition to the hedione - aka, nature's ambroxan. 😂 Very well compared Pep. If Terre d'Hermes is the supervisor, Eau Sauvage is the boss.

I have most versions of this fragrance. Early 80s vintage EDT, new EDT, Parfum 2012, new Parfum, Extreme, Fraicheur Cuir, Cologne, and my favorite is the new formulation of the EDT and the second one is the new Parfum. I like all of them to be honest. The only one I'm missing is the rare 100% Glaçon. The new EDT is just so amazingly all-around and likable. You could wear it to the office, the gym, and the date and in all seasons of the year.

Do you think it's worthy spending about 120$ for a 90/100 ml bottle of Dior Eau Sauvage 2012 or just buying a bottle of Dior Eau Sauvage 2017 at 60$? I want to mention that I'm not a perfume collector, I have only 10 perfumes and I don't want to spend big on perfumes. I seem to be the only person on the planet that does not like the Parfum - either of them - at all. I think it's the balsamic/resinous accord formed by the elemi/myrrh. It doesn't sit well with me. It gives the fragrance a "gummy" smell and I don't like it. The appeal completely escapes me. Now the original classic Eau Sauvage EDT, on the other hand, is my #2 fragrance of all time. And the EDT and Parfum(s) are completely different frags.
