Smart idea to use a cranefly / mosquito hawk / skeeter-eater (which is of course a misnomer, since they don't have the mouthparts to eat mosquitos -- in their adult, flying stage, the most they ever eat is a little nectar), to make it easier to see the bug in the cane topper. LOL, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a giant, mosquito-filled Jolly Rancher?

Could you try using a vacuum chamber to get rid of ALL the bubbles? I think the resulting cast would be awesome!
@snug_as_a_bug7 жыл бұрын
TheRoot wouldn't a vaccumm just expand the bubbles and make them bigger?
@refrigeratorskates4927 жыл бұрын
If i'm correct, i believe the bubbles pop therefore drawing them ti the surface.
@superalvin72087 жыл бұрын
Ola Burr i think that’s how it works, the bubbles get bigger and float to the top

good answer yes the vacuum would expel all the bubbles. i would have gave the same answer.

Addresing the "_bug abuse_" situation, those bugs only live for the span of a day. its would have died anyways. Plus if not to conceal them then they would just die and not be put in good use. This bug is now in a beautiful grave where it gets to be greatly displayed. Edit: they are also harmless fun fact
@chloewilliams32817 жыл бұрын
Sombre kat While not harmless to humans, they cause great damage to vegetation in their larval stage by feeding off of the root systems of plants. Those plants would probably argue that they are indeed very harmful!

Everyone is complaining about killing a mosquito they don't understand that's how entomologist study insects most of the time
@supermanboy12557 жыл бұрын
Sombre kat They do feel some form of pain and can learn but honestly killing one with purpose isn't bad entomologist do it all the time for study

I know its not your MO, but why not make a mold already that shape?
@GreenGleem7 жыл бұрын
I meant specifically the resin knob part, not the wooden cane. Or did you mean that the shape would have to be made in wood first to make the mold? Wood isn't ideal for making original positives. Even then, he could have saved himself shaving time. And a casting could be made any size you wanted it to be, even to compensate for polishing. As a prop maker, I guess I'm saying I would have gone about it differently. I was curious whether or not he had a specific reason for approaching it that way.
@littleblueclovers6 жыл бұрын
GreenGleem You're gonna have to shave and polish it anyway, so I think it's fastest to make a cube and then cut it, instead of making the mold the size you want it to be.
