All of these comments about waste are ridiculous. Not every turner has coring tools, and maybe just a suggestion on a waste plug to conserve resin would be nice instead of being ridiculed. Your work is fantastic. The bowl is beautiful. Continue to inspire.

What a piece of art. Amazing. I have never worked a lathe before as I unfortunately don't own one but I am always fascinated watching videos on KZbin. I am just wondering what if you used some kind of martial like clay and build a circular inner "dam wall". That way you would save a lot of resin that you anyway took off in the centre of the bowl with the lathe? Would that work or just complicated the process?
@niceyoutubecommenter6840
@niceyoutubecommenter6840 7 жыл бұрын
Binge watching all your videos and just had a thought When doing these sorts of projects I think you should probably start by securing the wooden bits with a bit of resin, then cutting it to the shape you want, and THEN creating a packing tape mould for the resin. It would save a lot of material.
@SnorrioK

Still, the thought remains. Seems like a lot of waste to make all that resin, just to remove most of it again.

That is incredibly beautiful!! Great idea for the mold. I am going to have to keep that filed away in my brain for later use. :) What was that tool that you were using to put the sandpaper on when you first started sanding? - Heidi

Thank Heidi- I normally do 'power sanding" with a 3/8 right angle drill. It died during the 120 grit round. This is a sorby sandmaster. It's a friction based random orbit sander. Honestly, I like the drill better....

I got an idea. you could create a bowl like this entirely out of resin lets say blue resin and cut and sand the outside only. Than you put the round bowl back into a mold and pour for example red resin on top of it. than cut the bowl shape again from the red resin and you could make the exact same mold just in two colours.
