I guess that must mean he's confident about the script not requiring too much time for rewrites. Not a whole year, anyway. He's probably been rewriting sections of the script while writing the first draft. A lot of writers recommend against doing that, but some find it easier to get to the final page if they know the pages leading up to it aren't full of problems. So if the first draft ends up being pretty close to a final draft, and if the outline was solid to begin with and very little has changed through the process of scripting it, that would be a quicker route from here to production than if it requires more extensive rewrites.

Most writers bring in a first draft, then a second draft and so on until they get the script right but Matt Reeves has never operated this way and always tries to perfect the script before handing it in. No drafts. This isn't me saying that he doesn't have personal issues to deal with that might’ve delayed the script but the guy you replied to wasn't wrong.

seeing the news of the movie being delayed until 2027 makes me fear the script is not even ready yet. stating shooting this year could literally mean tomorrow or on new year's eve and anything in between. fingers crossed that everything will go well and we get yet another banger of a movie, this franchise has so much potential and The Penguin proved as much. also we gotta remember the first part of The Batman also had some issues while shooting and later in the post, so we just gotta be patient
