Directv Genie New Menus How To Navigate With QUICK TIPS and Shortcuts DVR

Hopefully I am able to show you some things about the new menus and where to find them. I also include some QUICK TIPS and shortcuts! Latest software as of 7-25-18 is 0X1104 which increases the font size which most are complaining about and wanting.
To get to the diagnostic menu hold the "Select" button down for 15 seconds and another menu will popup. This menu will give you info about status of the HR / Client / Video Bridge etc. Very useful if you are having any issues. Also you can see what firmware version you are on, if it's outdated or the old GUI you can force an update.
Also after you either update or get an update check your TV resolution settings. After an update it often resets back to only 720P. You must check all clients, each one will get reset when updates happen, not every time but often.
Missing on-demand or they do not return after an update (give it a few hours to a day first)
First test internet connectivity with DirecTV servers by doing a speed test. If the first 2 digits of the result code are 88, means you are connected. If the first 2 digits are 87 this would mean the receiver can access the internet but not DirecTV servers. If they can't connect to the servers, try rebooting your router and see if you get the same result. Post below if you can't get to code 88 when testing and I will try to help you.

We install around 2000 of these a month, the new customers have no point of reference to the old guide, but 20 million others are complaining big time. They have to make this bigger to compete with dish. 79% available on your hard drive! Wow, I have to constantly delete to keep space available. Another great video!

4 TB of hard drive space is a good thing :). With the stock 1 TB I was constantly deleting content and not being able to save movies that come and go. When recording 4K programs space goes even quicker. Personally I have gotten used to the new GUI and no longer mind it, just takes time. Further change is coming just a matter of when or what it will look like. The new GUI is actually similar to what is being rollout out by other carriers, they just need to tweak the colors and or font sizes.

There is a new CE (Beta) 0X1100 that actually increases the font size but it's HOT mess right now in my opinion and actually prefer the smaller fonts, go figure. I will post a video possible later today or tomorrow if time permits. You can download the CE (BETA) during the next CE window which is from 11 PM to 3 AM ET Saturday 6/23 into Sunday 6/24 (Eastern Time Zone). Next weekend could have another CE updated but they are only on the weekends during the CE window timeframe I show in my other videos.

The only thing I don't like is when you want to see all the upcoming episodes for a show it just shows one episode and just the airdates for that one episode and not all the episodes past and future unless you enter the title of the show in the search engine.

really good info-- ive noticed in "my list" that some recordings dont even show up under "all recordings".. how do you get to see everything recorded?

It should show everything when you hit list, are you looking at the list on the minis or the HR? When you look at both do they match? In 0X1088 there is a bug where the HR after being up for a while will lose some of the listings need to be rebooted to see them again.

Another problem is the genie remotes so compact , the buttons so complicated, the ones before were better everything was separated , att screwed everything up

I need to download new software because I have that list glitch where things aren’t showing up on my list. To get 1103 firmware, doesn’t it have to be done between 3am and 7am est only? Or can you do at another timeframe. Thank you.

The new 1104 firmware downloaded but the problem with a lot of the recordings missing in the playlist is still happening. Any ideas how to fix that?

Reboot the HR or HS, they should come back, was a bug in the last version 1088 that I haven't seen come back in 1100 or newer

Thank you. The recordings come back, but then a day or less later, they disappear again. Keep having to reboot. Seems like the glitch is definitely not fixed.

HR54 improves over the HR44 in terms of speed and internal space. Apart from the they are fairly similar, the HS17 is a step further in some respects but a step back in the long run.

How do I get 4K I have a 2017 lg 4K tv with hdr just got direct tv today switching from my old cable company is there a certain box you have to have?

Yes you must have the C61K mini, DTV only has one 4K box, also your Sat dish needs to have the correct LNB as well. Call them back and demand they come back and install it for the one TV, that's what I did and they came back. One note is you must have at least a minimum qualifying package which I think is the middle tier and above.
