Amazing! Thanks so much for this! I haven’t done it since I was 17 years old on 125’s with 2 buddies. We stayed at campsites and travellodges and it took us over a week all in lol! You’re absolutely bang on though - you start off thinking ‘we’re doing lands end to John o groats!’ And then just at the last minute realise you’re basically doing it twice as you have to get to and from them lol, then you start realising the fire test routes are boring and editing the route and it gets really long lol. Given we couldn’t use motorways and added in some detours think our mileage ended up just under 2,400 from what I remember. Still as teens with a 2 week break from college and a few months motorcycle experience it was amazing - thanks for the memories and Merry Christmas, can’t wait for the rest!

Nice one., Respect for doing it in winter.. I have done the John O Groats to Lands End trip in just over 14 hours on a Ducati 999.. I now look at a 999 and it hurts just looking at one. Started in Leicestershite before picking up the 999 in Perterboghorror. So that was a long 600 mile day on the way up. The ride down.. The clutch on the Duc was dragging (needed bleeding from Wick onwards), ran out of fuel on the garage forecourt at Brora and had to wait 40 minutes for the place to open. The whole Scotland part was the most enjoyable bit. As soon as I hit the motorway it was just sit with the display showing 40mpg and ignore the speedo.. It was just hour upon hour of pain on the motorways. It only started to be fun again when I caught up with one of the other guys and we hit Cornwall and the last hour of the ride. Almost 1800 miles in 3 days with 2 of them on the Duc that obviously didn't want to do it. A month later the Duc went back to Ducati with an external gearbox and committed suicide....

The wide loads you passed was a wind turbine. The first truck was loaded with what's called a nose cone, that bit holds the blades. The second truck was what's call tower two (the middle section of a wind turbine, usually the tower comes in 3 parts) and the last truck was loaded with a tower 1 which is the part that bolts to the ground. I install them for a living. Think you'll find there 5 other trucking Infront or behind them, 3 will be carrying the blades, the longest loads of them all. Another will be carrying what's called a nacelle which is the bit the nose cone attaches to, also the bit that generates electricity and is the heaviest. There will be another load with with tower 3. Hope that was of some interest. Have you ever visited the isle of Skye? It's my favourite place in Scotland to visit on a motorcycle
