Disastrous Day in Vietnam 🇻🇳

I don't think people realise how awful that ride to Hue was. It was the worst riding conditions I have ever been in and I was absolutely miserable and wet from it. The only way I could keep myself positive on the journey was to think of how Ben must have been feeling, inexperienced on a bike and without a full poncho, I was pissing myself the whole way down and wasn't sure if we'd ever see you again. However to my relief/surprise you rolled in only half and hour after myself. Mad journey, nice one for making it.

I can imagine how bad it is, when it's rainy season in SE Asia countries, it's really really big pour of water xD, and Ben, he doesn't have a glass cover on his helmet, I bet it's really painful on his face to drive under the rain like that. Ponco is useless tho, you need a rain coat that like a set of the top and the trouser. Then you save! Also during the rainy season the road can be so slippery, so make sure the tire is good!! If you're unlucky it will causing a crashed!!

@@amaliamarina1063 yes the helmet visor is a must. I've been in a much stronger rain for an hour in a cheap plastic poncho (thinner than a garbage bag) and it was fine. Some bundling to stay warm like a cloth around the head will help a lot.

In winter, the climate in the North of Vietnam from Hue to the north is quite cold. Although the temperature is around 16⁰C - 17⁰C, the air humidity is over 90% plus heavy rain from the northeast monsoon. So driving is very cold

I've always wanted to visit Hue. When I was a 19 to 21 year old Marine (1985 to 87) my platoon Sargeant then was a veteran of the battle of Hue. He was a fire team leader with H company 2/5 Marines.

@@pauldowner1 get yourself an office job on the phones mate, easy to transfer to admin if you hate it enough.. retail has the transferrable skills needed and you can easily just book time off. I used to work retail until I changed jobs in April and I've just been able to book from the 13th to the 28th 👍👍 Seriously can't fault it, get it in insurance sales if you can, anything other than motor as it's very quiet this time of year

Hue, Ninh Binh, and the Phong Nha Caves area were some of the highlights of my Vietnam trip. We only encountered rain in Hué. We were about a month later than your trip. I think you must have been unlucky.

Not only it's the rainy season worst time of the year to visit Vietnam, but the breakneck fast industrialization of the country seems to have made it worse, just like in China, I visited both countries many times throughout the 90s, 00s and 10s at similar times of the year and weather is getting worse. Vietnam was still very nice 10 years ago, now the north is an industrial hellhole covered in smog when it's not pouring down, only the south has remained quite preserved.

Although Vietnam is a tropical country, it is different from other countries in Southeast Asia. In the North of Vietnam, the winter temperature is quite low, the coldest month in Hanoi ranges from 9⁰C to 10⁰C.

Did a similar trip 12 years ago. Lashed it down the entire time in Hue. Absolutely baltic 13c Bought some of those daft ponchos but it did nothing. The best thing i remember was a bar called brown eyes. Absolutely brilliant at night in there. Fantastic country

It's not that expensive to travel in most these places. Vietnam in particular is incredibly cheap. You can live like a king for a month with just a thousand USD. Especially if you get comfortable around the locals and avoid overpriced stuff designed for tourists.

OMG SEA journey, I hope you guys will travel further to the south into Malaysia and Indonesia. Spoiler alert, it's rainy season here, but it's as bad as in Vietnam? Probably, if you were traveling in Bandung and Garut Regency, West Java. Monsoon, fog, and freezing air in the middle of tea plantations. At least, in Vietnam you would not worry about landslide and earthquake tho.
