Stevie Nicks put me under her vocal spell when I was just 9 years old. I heard her singing "Dreams" for the first time. I thought I was hearing an angel sing. I've been a loyal Stevie fan ever since. She is still today, always the first one on all of my playlists, and sprinkled all throughout them. ❤

I know how you feel. When i first heard them as a boy during their self-titled album; I was hooked for life. This song and video was one I always went back to; especially since the album version cut the last lines of the song. It was on the single, which cut the rest of the final lines, but it never felt the same. Later, in the 90s, that final line was cut and re-edited, which was worse. As for the song; nostalgic is the proper word for this song. Stevie wrote or about her early days before Fleetwood Mac. Back when her and Lindsey didn't have much money. She worked while he stayed home, creating music. She would buy second-hand clothes from a nearby shop. She liked to store. She would sit on the floor and listen to music or write her own songs while candles lit the room. This is what she called her gypsy times. After the success of being with Fleetwood Mac; she missed those days and wrote this song. So yes; it's a look back in time.
@lauraallen559 ай бұрын
The lyrics reflect that when she says 'back to the floor that I love'. They didn't have enough money for a bed, just a mattress on the floor. She has said that when she was in hotels or feeling it, she would take the mattress off whatever was her bed at the time and sleep on the floor to remind her of those times.

Back before CDs and streaming sometimes the “full length version” had to be cut down in order to fit on a vinyl LP, so it becomes the “album version” vs the full length. These songs didn’t do as well on the charts, but this one specifically is top tier Mac/Nicks.

Hey buddy I'm a new subscriber and I just wanted to say thank you for being inclusive in what you react to and for your kindness in this space you've chosen to share.i love Fleetwood Mac and as a African American child growing up In the 70s and 80s we had such and amazing genre of music we were exposed to and i actually remember Gypsy being aired on Friday Night videos Ms Stevie Nicks ( the whyte witch) I just love her.the reason The group resonates with us is they have a history beyond the music so you hear the Joy's and pains in the lyrics, bands aren't bands anymore they put strangers together and hope for the best. My all time favorite song is Rhiannon I remember being in the car with my family dad is driving us from NYC to Georgia and the radio station changes and that was my introduction to Fleetwood Mac..

Throughout the 70s and 80s, artists writing songs longer than 3-4 minutes, would have their "album" version, and their radio single release. Some songs would be edited, had words changed from the original, and even different rhythms. The Beatles had this for their song REVOLUTION, a radio single, a slow version for the album, and an obscure version. Charlie Daniel's band had to re-record Devil went down to Georgia, to replace "I told you once you SOB, " to I told you once you son-of-a-gun. The advertisers ran the radio stations, and if songs were too long, and cutting into ad time, they had to be cut, unless it was the Beatles, or Led Zeppelin

When Fleetwood Mac was looking for a new guitarist, Mick Fleetwood was also looking for a new studio to record in. At one studio the engineer played him a track they had recorded for a duo called Buckingham- Nicks for an example of what they did there. The track was called Frozen Love & Mick was blown away by Lindsey's guitar playing & by the duo's sound. It was just what Fleetwood-Mac was looking for. They were offered the job almost imediately. The Buckingham- Nicks album is fantastic & could hold up with any Fleetwood- Mac album. He was a solo artist and wasn't in the Bee Gees because he was born the year they were established. 12 years younger than Barry and 9 years younger than the twins. Early 1988 the BeeGees announced that Andy would be joining them as a permanent member of the Bee Gees but sadly he died March 10th of 88, which was five days after his 30th birthday.
