I think the term “fat” is used loosely. As someone who is overweight by bmi standards (not obese), i am honestly happy in my body. I’m a size 4/6. My clothes fit great. I don’t have abs but i have defined obliques and hips. I work out 3-5 days a week, and i work a desk job. I like being able to eat what i want in moderation as i do have to watch what i eat to maintain my size. But if i wanted to get to a “healthy” weight I’d have to lose 15 pounds. Which would require me to either workout an extra hour a day or to cut my calories to around 1200. I’ve done it before and was tired all the time. My hair was thinning out. I have defined facial features so at a lower weight they became even more defined and i was being compared to Michael Jackson. I just don’t think everyone is meant to be at the bmi standard weight.

I think the point is that when you feel compassion it overrides disgust, compassion is empathy, feeling you would be so miserable to be in their place, and disgust comes from judging from outside, not being able to imagine that you could ever be in their place
@ne0x1ty21 күн бұрын
This.
@EricLewandowski-vn7ky8 күн бұрын
He’s talking about the biological reaction. You can be disgusted and empathetic at the same time. When I see a fat person, my brain goes “Wtf, that’s not healthy!” and I’m disgusted. Not in my control. That’s doesn’t mean I don’t feel for those people.
@thomastoivonen937522 күн бұрын
Well, by that logic it's understandable to feel disgust when you see a huge bodybuilder on steroids that will probably die young. We are social beings and we are learned in whatever society we are brought up in, from a young age what is attractive or not. In many societies being fat is a sign of having a lot of money/resources, and therefore attractive. Is it healthy? No. But being a bodybuilder on steroids is not healthy either. Yet, I personally find that kind of body aesthetic.
@Ashly30422 күн бұрын
I think that was the point. We can't really help what we have a visceral, disgusted reaction to but we should examine exactly why we react the way we do. A lot of times disgust comes from a place of concern and sometimes just not comprehending how a person got themselves into such a situation (morbid obesity, drug addicts, etc).
@emartinezr22 күн бұрын
Yes. But that was not the question.
@jmazz8578622 күн бұрын
One takes a ton of hard work and the other doesn’t. For the sake of arguement, let’s say being morbidly obese and crazy muscular are both equally unhealthy. Part of that disgust comes from the sheer laziness and gluttonous nature of the obese person.

I was fat my whole life up until 25 years old, I hated myself and was DISGUSTED by my body the entire time. All this body positivity, "I'm fine just the way I am", "this is just my natural size", is absolute garbage, it's all a lie. Not a single obese person looks at their body and is happy with it, they'll lie about it until the end of time, but that's the reality. Yes, I can empathise with how people end up this way. I was born into a drug addict family and abused daily until I was in my late teens, eating was one way of coping. Doesn't matter, the outcome of being obese is still disgusting. And eventually I was able to fix it and now at age 31 I'm extremely fit and lean and it's the best thing I ever did. Disgust is the only rational response, if you don't feel disgusted by obesity, something is wrong with you, and as a society we should stop trying to make it acceptable. It's like saying "why are you scared of snakes?" or "why are you afraid of heights?" Probably because humans are naturally scared of things that can potentially kill them. Disgust is no different. It's an automatic response. We're disgusted by filth, by extreme laziness, by gluttony. We literally evolved this way because for thousands of years we had to avoid these things to survive.

Running and a crappy diet. Got into an abusive relationship, had 5 kids in 4 years. 3, which died from premature birth. Last baby, was a c-section at 28 weeks. I am 3 years out from that period of my life. Im finally mentally ok to work on myself. Being disgusted by a body that is overweight is completely normal. I am, even by my own body. Learned that when i lost 100lbs. Im 297 right now, watching this on a treadmill. If anyone is offended by what you have said. Its because they identify with what you have said. Funnily enough, I feel more disgust towards Mirons opinions on this 😂 I don't feel disgusted towards overweight people. Concerned? yes. Questioning their decisions? Yes. But not disgust.
@user-fn1cd6mo9z22 күн бұрын
I think the problem is that 'disgust' has both aesthetic and ethical usages. When you're talking about disgust towards Miron's opinion, that's an ethical usage, when Greg is talking about disgust towards morbid obesity, that's an aesthetic usage. I think Jubilee intentionally baited conflict by framing the conversation ambiguously like that. If they had just asked if anyone felt an 800lb person was very unattractive because of their 650lbs of excess skin and fat, it wouldn't seem nearly as contentious. But when you hear someone say 'disgust', but you don't want to ethically condemn obesity even if you find it very unattractive, it suddenly becomes controversial.

How do you say they’re “fit shaming” but Myron was fat shaming & it was deemed okay? That doesn’t make sense I don’t agree with shaming a person when they’re at their lowest. It should all be one and the same. Body shaming. People shame instead of acting with compassion and providing real solutions because it’s an emotional easy response. Being too skinny or too fat feels bad when people shame you for it without offering real help on how to change.

Hey greg , big fan here , i was once obese and lost my weight exactly following every one of your advice , the thing is I know how being fat affected my mental health , how people treat you differs and worsens, I had that victim mentality as you said , but what I have noticed is that being honest and telling those people they are lazy or they don't have discipline doesn't work on them , it even puts them further in victim mentality. And another thing is rather than telling those people this is disgusting so u have to reduce wait , I say tell me to love their body even if they are fat and because u love it u have to take care of it by reducing the weight . Y am saying this it develops this toxic relationship with their body and they hate themselves for it and it takes a big toll on their mental health .

I agree with Coach Greg! I am 5’10” , 35 years old, and was 340lbs approximately 1 yr ago. I am an icu nurse and I would come back home after each 12-14hr shift with lower back pain, knee pain, and chronic fatigue. Worse than all the physical pain- i was always self-conscious because my scrubs would never fit right and I was always out of breath in a code blue situation. Long story short, i went on a low(er) carb diet, upped my protein intake, replaced eating junk cafeteria food with RTD protein shakes or CICO protein bars (not a plug. I actually came across them from a protein bar review from Dr. Mike’s videos), started working out 3-4 times a week (1hr of circuit training with 45 mins of treadmill after), and now I am 250lbs. My target goal is 185-190lbs. I still have work to do, but I have more self confidence, more energy, my scrubs fit better, my resting HR went down from the upper 90s to the mid 50s. Physical pain aside, me not beating myself up internally for being morbidly obese is well worth the journey. Take it from a still obese person on a weight loss journey- fat positivity/body positivity is a sham that overweight people tell themselves to make themselves feel better. It’s like a IG filter. At the end of the day, you still feel like crap internally.

My favorite part of that whole thing was how shook Myron was anytime someone called him on his BS. "All the fat influencers" and then dude was like "I'm in that space, please name all the ones that are doing that" and Myron was just like "Uhhh...uhhh...well I don't recall names, but they do it" and then changes the subject. Typical guy that just mouths off with no facts or intelligence to back up anything that he says. What a clown, lol. Bro also rolled him calling him out for being small AF compared to the other guys, you could tell that one hurt him bad and it was great. One thing I took away from that show was your lack of empathy. At least Janicky seems to understand and be able to relate to both sides of the issue. He came off looking real good there and was glad he even came back at you on a few of your own biased points. I'm not disgusted by other people because I honestly could care less what they are doing with their life, it's none of my business.
