i think why you feel that way is that neither goofy or max is a villain so its a different kind of film....the film has no real villain...even pete and big foot are not villains..thats rare

A Goofy Movie just really gets to me. Goofy and Max' relationship just breaks my heart every time. The movie made me care so much for Goofy it's unreal! And Max and Roxanne's relationship is just about the cutest Disney romance ever. And then of course there's Powerline. Powerline is everything. I'd give anything to see a live Powerline performance!

I had a tumultuous relationship with my dad growing up, and this was one of the movies we saw that kind of gave us a middle ground. Some of the arguments seemed plucked straight from my life. And since Pauly Shore was big at the moment, I loved he was in it. And Bigfoot's laugh always gets me going.

she didn't mention mickey phone or the other time we see ariel at the hotel as a night light ..did she miss that?..also pretty sure max was not a senor and the story is based off a road tripe katzenberg or someone high up at disney took with their kid or grandkid or something a few years prior and they finally used it in a story...its exaggerated and give more lessons but basically it came from a real bonding moment and story and some of the realism comes from the fighting on road trips and happiness you share nostalgia memories wise

I love a Goofy Movie and I think my reasons are: the soundtrack, the bonding of father and son, the cute crush Max has and all the crazy but familier characters Goofy and Pete for example :D

A Goofy movie does a fantastic job of encapsulating why Goofy is one of the most relatable characters ever. A lot of us can feel like screw ups no matter how hard we try. He always tries to make up for it with a lovable personality and good intentions. Despite how far apart him and Max are at the beginning, and it is somewhat obvious they grow closer as father and son, it still is a heartwarming moment to see them getting along together. Also, this is the one movie with Pauly Shore that I can stand. I think that says a lot.

'A Goofy Movie' wins because it is so much better than it has any right or expectation to be. It has real heart. I believe the relationship between Goofy and Max and it's genuinely sympathetic. The soundtrack is amazing and the songs stand on their own while also being unique among the Disney renaissance films. (On a side note, I could also watch this film every day because it was the only VHS tape we had for two weeks when we had moved. I DID watch it every day for two weeks!) Overall, 'A Goofy Movie' effectively allows you to feel closer to a famous Disney character with a family drama that is relatable and believable. All without skimping on great music and fun comedy sequences.

YES! Definitely one of the most underrated soundtrack ever! My daughter is 7, but when she was 4 she was completely obsessed with Max & wrote him hundreds of letters & gave them to Goofy because she never met Max. Loved this!

This and Hercules are 2 of my favourites. I absolutely LOVE the soundtrack for this movie, it was the first thing that connected me to it, I even have it on my Spotify, the opening for I2I gets me every time. Also I think the relationship between Max and Goofy is really sweet.

I could also watch this movie every day and never tire of it. It’s basically been my favorite Disney movie since I can remember. It’s a perfectly paced movie that never drags. And it’s aesthetically very pleasing as well. I also remember fast forwarding my vhs tape through the Parachute Express music video. I had so much disdain for it, it felt longer than the actual movie to me.

I used to love that Dr. Looney short at the beginning of the movie. And A Goofy Movie is so underrated but like you said, a total cult classic for us 90s kids. The ability to connect to the movie made it that much better- parent issues, friend issues, girlfriend issues, you name it. Seriously the best.

For me, it was the first movie I got to see with friends without my parents! They just dropped us off! It was amazing, and something that would never happen today! I was 12! I related to Max so much in this movie, that desire to be independent from my parents, but deep down knowing what they want is the best for me. Very universal themes for teens/preteens. I love down to Disness! Please do The great Mouse Detective or Home on the Range!

a goofy movie is one of my all time favorites. it really changed how i felt about goofy and when i started meeting goofy in the parks he makes me cry every time! he reminds me so much of my grandfather (goofy is his favorite character) and the way he’s represented in the movie translates to the parks so well it makes me cry every time. i just love how wholesome he is.

What I love about this movie is how genuine and heartfelt the father-son relationship between Goofy and Max is. It's a very real sort of conflict, where a parent wants desperately to reconnect with their child because they feel they are drifting away, and ends up driving them further away in the process. "Hi Dad" Soup makes me cry, and so does the scene near the end where the car is going down the river. "I'm not your little boy anymore! I've got my own life now!" "I know that, I just wanted to be part of it!" Gets me every time... AND YAAAAAS the soundtrack!! Stand Out and I 2 I are downloaded on my phone as we speak. This movie and Oliver and Company (Why Should I Worry and Streets of Gold are THE BEST) are the two Disney soundtracks that I regularly legitimately jam to, not just because they're songs from a Disney movie soundtrack. And of course, I love it because of nostalgia... A Goofy Movie was one of the ones I watched repeatedly as a kid.

A Goofy movie is just one of those movies that makes me remember my childhood. Like a few years ago I came across it on DVD at a store and was like mmm I'm going to buy it went home and watched it 3 times in a row! No matter how many times I watch it, it never gets old! PLUS I was obsessed with Goofy when I was younger so that probably also fuled my love for this movie!

I still have the original VHS of A Goofy Movie and when I occasionally pop it in, I still sing every word to "Dr. Looney's Remedy". I've found I love the nostalgia factor of Disney VHS tapes and prefer watching them when I can, as opposed to my "better quality" DVDs, Blu Rays and digital copies of the film.

I think it is not only the soundtrack but the growth of Goofy and Max's relationship as a father and son help the movie become a cult classic. I mean, that relationship then becomes seen in The Goofy Movie, House of Mouse, Mickey's Once and Twice Upon a Christmas, and however else they are showcased. Huey, Dewey, and Louie get a familial relationship as well but it is not as close as a father and son one.

I love the bond that develops between Goofy and Max during this film...and I wish I could have that kind of bond with my own father but it isn't an easy thing to develop in real life when you don't see eye to eye. I think that is one of the biggest things that draws me to the movie. The only other major things: Roxanne and the soundtrack.

This movie came out right when I started to go through the beginnings of butting heads with my parents and early adolescence and it just hit me in a relatability-way more than any princess movie could. Awkward parent relationship when you're starting to grow up was way more real to me than fairytale prince rescue. And that music was SO CATCHY. It was like putting early 90s pop into a bottle with lightning. (This is also one of my faves, along with Emperor's New Groove.)

I totally remember Dr. Looney's Remedy! ^.^ The reason I love this movie is because you don't see very many father, son (or family) movies from Disney. Pixar is great at it, but you never see this side from Disney. You see real father-son moments, arguments, love, Max just being a typical teenager. What I've learned growing up and watching this movie is you kind of shift from Max's POV to Goofy's POV and you better understand where Goofy is coming from and how great of a dad Goofy is to Max!

I think the coming-of-agey-ness the teen crush theme... the complicated father issues, etc. REALLY resonated with me... the whole aesthetic of it was just completely perfect... and I obsessed about the soundtrack too. I definitely have the first release and saw the music video. It was so awesome. I think what I love about this movie, is that the young and old can relate to it. It's a lot like Finding Nemo in that way, because I remember having similar reactions to both. As a kid, you think "Aw man, Goofy/Merlin are soooo embarrassing." Yet, when you get older, you realize they're just loving dads and they care about their sons and be grateful!

I LOVE that you made this Down to Disness about A Goofy Movie!! It's also my favorite Disney movie for just about the same reasons as you. This came out when I was in the 5th grade so I was just the right age to become obsessed with it. I owned it on VHS and I loved singing to the Dr. Looney's bit. I never skipped it. What made me love the movie so much was the complex father-son relationship, the cute/awkward romance between Max and Roxanne (perfect tween fodder), and the music. I2I and Stand Out are perfect 90's jams.

Goofy is not a perfect parent, Max is in his typical "I'm ashamed of my dad" teenage years and can't articulate a word when he talks to the girl he likes, everyone goes completely nuts for Powerline (for a good reason, have you seen him?) like we go nuts for Beyoncé or Bruno Mars...

YESSS!!! I have been waiting for this Down to Disness!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 I’m obsessed with A Goofy Movie & Max & Powerline! Legit i2i is my get pumped song for any situation! For me, I think this movie just ticked everything you could have on any Disney movie list. It’s not just for kids, for teens, or for adults-it’s literally for every age group! That’s what has really made it stand the test of time. As a kid, loving the goofiness of Goofy & all the crazy things that happen to them. As a teenager, totally relating to Max & being embarrassed by your parents & yearning for independence. As an adult, realizing that your parents are actually awesome human beings & so worth going out of your way to spend time with & get to know on other levels. The other points you mentioned are the same for me as well-the nineties vibes, the amazing soundtrack. What I loved especially as a kid was that it was such good, like, regular...? music but somehow also so Disney at the same time. Like, what more could a Disnerd want?! Also, I had the hugest crush on Max (still kinda do lol) & was a bit traumatized when I got older & first realized he’s a dog... Lastly, Goofy not sounding like Goofy?! Wow, that would’ve been horrible.

I definitely think the exquisite soundtrack is a big influencer as to why this film is loved by so many- MJ and Prince were still booming well into the 90s and beyond (my knowledge is a bit more limited on Bobby Brown lol), and I think Powerline's sound was just so fun and exciting like MJ and Prince's music, it evoked a sense of nostalgia as you said, even though MJ and Prince were still around at the time. I feel like the movie kind of just transported you. I also think the whole "Stand Out" scene was a big reason why I loved the movie so much. The idea of being this super cool rockstar and performing in front of your whole high school and everything loving what you're doing was something I really loved and wanted to experience myself; that exhilarating moment of such high energy. And I think it's also because you get so emotionally invested in Max and Goofy, not just in their father-son bond, but in each of them individually. You root for Max throughout the film, and you want him to get to the Powerline concert so he can impress Roxanne and they can finally admit that they like each other. At the same time, you're also rooting for Goofy, and hoping that he will finally reach this goal he has to strengthen his relationship with his son before he leaves for college and Goof is left alone. You root for them individually in different parts of the film, and then when they finally come together with the stronger bond than what they had at the start of the film, you have this sense of fulfillment and happiness that you were able to witness this amazing story between a father and his son.

For me it's the antimated movie that my brother and I quote alot and at ten years old it was one of the last that I felt a true childlike connection too. The college slant made me think/know "oh yeah when I go to college life will be cool!" In the truest 90s definition of the word. There's a bit more that makes me love this movie, but it's too personal for here. Thank you so much for this one. Good luck with VEDA 2018!

✨A Goofy Movie was one of my first VHS tapes I got as a child lol, I was born in 99’ so DVD’s didn’t really come in to play till I was six. I loved it (still love it) I would quote it (still do this too) all the time. Every summer my family would drive twelve hours in a minivan to Maine to visit family so the road trip definitely resonated with me and the film makes me crack up to this day. I feel like once I got to high school I got the emotional bit a lot more as well. Definitely a fave of mine. (Btw love the video Sarah, if you’re reading this lol)💖✨

I'm with you Sarah. I can't quite explain why I love this movie so much either. It's one of those movies that was just made so well that it makes you very happy. I will say that the waterfall scene makes me think of my daddy though. Every time I watch it now I burst into tears and think to myself that if I were ever in a situation like that they he would try to protect me. I know he loves me and I love him even considering the fact that the both of us are not perfect in the slightest.
