Mulan has got to be my favorite Disney movie. Because it was heavily based on the original folk lore of Milan but also had its own creativity like adding Mushu and the Cricket, and giving all these characters pleasant personalities that made it more enjoyable to watch. Milan didn’t have powers, she wasn’t a Mary Sue. She was a normal girl who only wanted to help her father because if he had gone, he could be killed. And she knew she was going to be killed if she got caught yet she did it anyways which is what shows her incredible mindset. And as she grew as a character, so did the other characters. They all messed up, had a hard time with training, and struggled to get through with things but over time they ALL became physically strong, smarter, and better fit for the reason they were all there, to fight in a war. It wasn’t Milan holding up the whole team. And the love story was so subtle yet precious I adored it. It was a good movie that showed healthy feminism and girl power without just shoving it down your throat. And then they remade it and now the children of the future will likely only watch the remake because ooo magic.

It's because the true goal of mainstream pop "feminism" these days isn't to empower girls to rise up and be equal to men... it's to create an imaginary narrative where they're automatically stronger just by existing. And Disney sees dollar signs by cashing in on this trend, instead of leaning into what made their girl characters _already_ strong and empowering role models in the first place.

Even in Hua Mulan where she WAS better than most of the other characters... It was because she trained her entire life under the tutelage of one of the greatest masters. Her reason for joining the army was as much to save her father, who would have been killed due to his asthma, as it was because she knew she was the best for the job. Also her falling inlove with the general was a like more sweet because she liked him because he was caring and compassionate (For example, he... as the general... Would fill in for guards who needed rest). . Suffice it to say I like Hua Mulan better than this movie.

tbh, that was a minor plot hole in the original animated movie. Mulan's dad would've been sent home because of his age, meaning Mulan shouldn't need to do a thing (and she could've gone home too when she was deemed "unsuited for war", but I guess her own honor is more important for her dad's and her own's safety) (realistically in ancient China, men don't get sent home just because they're not as tough since the army needs every man they could find...so Mulan has good reasons to save her father)

That's what they were going for but it was executed very poorly. The bad guys treat the Witch like crap even though she's basically fighting a one woman war for most of it, it really makes you wonder why she needs the bad guys help at all, it seems like she could just fly into the palace and kill the Emperor then take the throne for herself. term02 that’s unfortunate. Mulan was probably one of the only Disney movies that actually merited a live action serious remake. Weak that they went the Mary Sue route and didn’t do any real character development. Could have been a great female hero

The witch had more character development than Mulan. There. I said it. Stopped caring for the movie the moment 6 year old Mulan was freerunning on buildings, backflipping and used a freaking bamboo stick to stop her fall... All to chase a chicken. Rolled my eyes when AFTER her armor already saved her life, she decides to strip it all off before running back into battle because woo women power. And not, y'know... Just taken her helmet off and let her hair down. Last I checked, women don't gain skin made of steel when they believe they're being "true."

Apparently, the old Mulan growing from a normal girl into a capable fighter through nothing but dedication, courage, and wit just isn’t “girl power” enough for modern Disney. Now she’s just ancient Chinese Rey.
@HexManiacQuinn4 жыл бұрын
@@Wisegirl6521 Horrible stereotype, tbh. I'm a woman that plays a lot of games. Not too many online games, I'll admit, but I've seen enough. Games like FFXIV and I think AdventureQuest is VERY adamant on gender equality for their armor. And by that I don't mean they avoid sexy outfits. You have your normal-looking outfits and armors, sure, but when the girls are given bunny suits SO ARE THE MEN. This, my fellow weebs, IS TRUE GENDER EQUALITY. I played WOW for some time too, but only a demo and didn't really make note of the outfits. Not that I even particularly care, mind you - hell, when I can play a woman, I want that eyecandy to be a sexy badass too that I can simultaneously insert myself into and drool over (in case you haven't notice, I have a bit of gay~). BUT I honestly think people think bikini-armor is more of a thing than it actually is.
