In the past few years, Walt Disney has fallen in love with the idea of churning out live-action remakes and spinoffs of their beloved animated classics. Movies like Mulan, The Jungle Book, The Lion King, Aladdin and more have all gotten the live-action. Now, it’s the turn of 101 Dalmatians. Kind of.
Cruella definitely raises some questions. Like how do you make a villain known for wanting to skin dogs engaging as a protagonist? What’s up with all the music? How did Cruella set up that parachute? Did we really need know the origin of her name? Are Pongo and Perdita brother and sister? Why did she give people dogs? Is it even possible for Emma Stone’s Cruella to turn into the Cruella De Ville that people know? If not, why is this a thing?
To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Disney’s Cruella! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

In the original book, 101 Dalmatians, Cruella was given an origin story. She was the last member of an extremely eccentric aristocratic family and she met Pongo and Perdita's owners in school. her hair was originally black and green, and she was the popular kid in school. An unnamed family tragedy happened, and her green hair turned white from the shock. Her Dad died of health problems, and her mom committed suicide, I think. Also, in the book, Cruella de Vil was her birth name and she had very poor taste in both clothes and furniture.

@@JustinWilliams-ed2ug You sound very confident for someone who doesn't "really" know. Look up the words 'flash cotton' on the internet. It seems like your work experience of ten years wasn't very enlightening. Movies and fiction in general tend to take some liberty. We are talking about a movie where a girl is born with perfectly parted black and white hair and Dalmatians kill a woman with a jump kick in the face. If Cruella's whole point was in being dramatic and she was such a good designer/seamstress, who's to say she didn't manage to conjure an entire overlay dress from flash cotton? @@jordimelis4463 Maleficent is an okay movie, the problem is that in order to make Maleficent herself look good, it had to make every other character look bad, which is made even worse when you have knowledge of the original movie. And unlike Wicked and Once Upon A Time where the bad guy is still the bad guy, Maleficent is seen as the good guy. It was supposed to be the same story but from a different perspective, but really it was a completely different story and characters with borrowed elements from the original.
@souless88

They say why maleficent is different. That was the "real" telling of the story. It was good tho. Cruella on the other hand is AMAZING but it needs another moviebto explain why she would want to hurt dogs. They changed her whole character. But the movie is one of disneys best if you just look at it as its own thing.
