Disney World vs Disneyland | Pirates of the Caribbean!

It's been a while since Christine and I pitted a Disneyland ride against a Disney World ride, so time to find out which pirate's life is for us!

The reason for the 2 drops in DL is not to make it longer its to move the boats under the train track into the show building in the back.

The cave in Disneyland is after the drops. You go down the first into the opening of the cave and then you immediately gown down the second into the rest of the cave before going around the bend and seeing the first pirate on the little island with the sword sticking out of his chest before going on to see the rest of the post death curse scenes.

On the 10th Anniversary episode of World of Color, Walt showed Disneyland ambassador (and now Disney Legend) Julie Rheim models of Piratea and how it will look. Talked about how people were going to get on a boat and ride through the lagoon and take them down a waterfall. Showing Julie the guests" predicament of a burning town, he said that they got the guests into this mess by taking them down a waterfall. He then asked her how she supposes they get them out. Taking a guess, her reply was , "By taking them UP a waterfall?" Walt confirmed her answer and told her that anything is possible at Disneyland. You might find it on KZbin. The audio is also the opening track to the ride's soundtrack sold in the park if it's still available. i bought the CD at the park in 2007.

I love the Disneyland ride much better. The whole inside theme with the restaurant included is amazing. The two drops as a child were much scarier than the Disneyworld version. Thanks for the video Rob! You're the best. Your next video should be Space Mountain if you haven't done it already. Thanks again!

Totally agree! Disneyland wins this one hands-down! Two drops, longer, more "involved" ride experience with a clear beginning, middle and end. The WDW version ended so abruptly that I actually asked, "Wow, it's over already?". I like the interior queue at WDW, but the ride is just way better at Disneyland.

The Disneyland version is the Director's Cut of the WDW version

In Disneyland, you go down two waterfalls, plunging into past times and hang out with the pirates. You go back to the present day by going back up a waterfall. At Walt Disney World you get off the boat without going back to present day. Going up that escalator or ramp doesn't seem to cut it. Disneyland's is clearly better. Both are fun.

Disney World has more space in the town scenes than Disneyland. The auction scene is a little longer and there are more smells in Disney World than Disneyland

Christine, Rob, the best of all..DISNEY:LAND! (I live in Southern Calif.). VERY long first drop, then half-length second drop, and the bayou at the start. THen some other cool stuff. (Went to WDW in 95 once, somewhat let down)

You forgot to mention another thing that D-Land has in their "Pirates" that WDW doesn't, namely the powder room at the where the pirates are drunkenly shooting at each other as well as the barrels of gunpowder.

Hi guys! I agree the drops at Disneyland are much better. They are to do with park layout, as you suggested, but the actual ride does not take place underground. At Disneyland, many of the ride 'show buildings' (the main parts where the ride takes place) are located outside the park proper's perimeter, behind the berm. This ensures these buildings and facilities are hidden from the view of guests. If you look at a satellite image of Disneyland you can see the first smaller Pirates building, where the bayou scene takes place, located inside the berm. This is then connected to a larger building outside the berm, containing the majority of the ride itself. The main part of the park is elevated in comparison to the parts outside the berm, hence the need for the drops, but everything takes place above ground. You can also see the Haunted Mansion and Splash Mountain show buildings located nearby in this backstage area.

POTC actually IS below ground level even back stage but not 'underground' as in buried. New Orleans square is technically 'on the second floor' if you will - raised above park level at almost the height of the berm BUT the bottom floor level of POTC is 2 stories below that making the backstage building 1 story below backstage ground level... There is a boat lift for ride vehicle maintenance in the back corner of the building (disguised as the tallest building [basically] behind Jack Sparrow in the barrel) to bring the boats to ground level when needed and if you are ever evacuated from the ride there are A LOT of stairs to go up before you exit the building front OR back stage.

The one at Disneyland has a huge problem. The queue gets super big and expands into one of the major choke points and it is impossible to move around it or get in line.

Actually that's probably why they added the pedestrian bridge that goes over the queue area back in 1987.

Disneyland's Pirates has two drops because of the railroad tracks.

The Disney world version was built because people in Florida wanted a pirates of the Caribbean. It was never meant to be there.

+Voltswitch 97 I might eventually. I was pretty lukewarm on the beta. It played well, but I typically shy away from strictly online multiplayer. That and Fallout 4 is probably going to eat up all of my winter. That said, I'd definitely consider doing Star Wars/Marvel games on the channel.
