Distress Leather Boots | How To | Adam Cooper

How To Distress and Weather a pair of leather boots using household items.
You will need Acetone (I have used acetone based nail polish remover)
An old rag
A hammer
A Hacksaw (or any suitable blade)
Sandpaper (or any rough surface - the courser the better)
Dust, dirt, soot, ash, sand, just about anything to rub some colour into them to finish off that well travelled look
My first LARP how to. As part of my NPC kit for Futures End I need to take a decent pair of boots and make them look lived in, worn in, and well travelled. Follow me through this first tutorial as I show you how to transform a nice pair of boots into something straight out of the cyberpunk cities of tomorrow!
This tutorial is also suitable for Post Apocalyptic LARP and costume. For Post Apocalyptic I would suggest ash and yellow hued dirt as opposed to dust when applying weathering and colour to your boots.
I used a pair of New Rock Reactor boots for this tutorial, but it will work with any leather boots.
This tutorial can also be used for cosplay, halloween customs and just making a new pair of boots look worn in.

Heh, my newrocks look almost like this after a few trips over some construction sites (bad shortcuts) and bad cleaning afterwards (handy brush and a nearby stream)... Love them till no more, thinking of getting another pair :D

Aside from one technique I've seen elsewhere, scuffing them with sharp rocks, this is the best leather boot distressing video I've seen. I'll be working on an already old pair of Lucky Brands in black that are still too, well, black. I would never have thought of the acetone. Brilliant!

+Terminally Nerdy absolutely! Works a treat on weather jackets. Needs a couple passes of the acetone to really strip out the colour but this method works on all leather items. Probably don't do it to the sofa though.

i keep the new ones crispy and use then and time will give the character, for beat ones a visit to the local flea market will give me beat up boots for coins, those boots were way nice to remove the groovy hardware
