Right on Brien, I'm 63 and this brings tears to me eyes. The original was good but David Draiman's version is an epiphany. I have listened to it repeatedly and it brings out my humanity - and I feel. His voice is unique and his delivery is without par, a true timeless work of art. With apologies to Simon and Garfunkel, this version far surpasses what they first created back in the early sixties.

First off, Semper Fi brother! Thank you for your bravery and service. I am fortunate to have seen Disturbed perform. Not this song, they hadn't covered it yet. But one day hopefully. They are absofrickinglutely OUTSTANDING! I am an old Devil Dog too and my all time favorite #1 band has always been and always will be AC/DC. BUT..... standing right there next to them...is DISTURBED! Way, way, way back when this metal shit started, me and the boys were screaming down the Highway to Hell with my head in a whiskey jar, looking for the best DAMNED women that I've ever seen. Hells Bells that's how the Marine Corps started!😎 And we have kept them Thunderstruck and shook them to their foundations every day since. My appreciation and love and prayers go out to my brothers and sisters in uniform, carrying on doing one hell of a job ,around the world today. Oorah and Semper Fi , Always! Yeah AC/DC has gotten me through some times man. But coming home was hard too. And for me, this is where Disturbed showed me the red hot Meaning of Life. And what to do with the Sickness. And that this Warrior is still Indestructible. And when the Voices begin to Stupify , Disturbed has helped me listen to the Sound of Silence. So I appreciate what they have accomplished in the name of ROCK. They help me to Remember in this Land of Confusion .

I love both versions. The Simon and Garfunkel version was like a plea to all of us to listen to each other. It was softer and gentler. When I listen to this version, I see it as "okay, you didnt listen the first time, now we're pissed". This version is so powerful. I've heard it hundreds of times and have seen about 20 different reactions and it still gives me chills.

Draiman (it's a Simon and Garfunkel cover) has a voice that transcends culture, gender, and race. Like Chris Cornell, Freddy Mercury... You not only hear the emotion in their voices, but they make you FEEL it. Many people can sing but only a very small percentage can take you to their experiences of love, pain, loss, joy, and the massive range of emotions that we can experience. Without watching his interviews you can feel Draiman's pain and loss behind his ability to do it. He's been through some shit. Most people are closed off generally to strangers so you feel honored and grateful to get to that place with them!

So sexy to see a black woman that likes hard rock/metal. Maybe it's because it indicates an open mind to at least give consideration to music/things that you wouldn't normally expect a particular person to show interest in. To me, open-mindedness is indicative of intelligence; that's another reason she's sexy. .........a pretty face helps also!!

I’m 61 and grew up listening to the Simon & Garfunkle version, but as much as I loved the lyrics, I felt their version was far too calm...too restrained. For me, the lyrics demanded passion, anger, anything to make a dramatic statement! For me, this song has always been a call to arms, and David ‘s version exemplifies what we desperately need right now. He forces us to understand the terrible price Americans are paying because millions of Americans are determined to remain silent in the face of OUTRAGEOUS nationalism, racism and bigotry so prevalent in politics today. This stunning song highlights what happens when many citizens choose to worship a false God...”The neon god they made,” while many others choose to remain silent. The Holocaust was allowed to happen because of the sound of silence. Silence indicates agreement and silence is a complicity.

atia Joseph , First, thank you for your dedicated service to our country! My husband served in Vietnam, my father in Korea, my grandfather in WWI, and most of my uncles in WWII. I have come to realize that unless someone personally knows a serviceman or woman, it is almost impossible to understand the horrors they were forced to face, the agony they were forced to endure, and the post-war trauma they are forced to live with. Their (your) bravery and selflessness is unparalleled and, regrettably, severely unappreciated! As far as your response to my comment about the Disturbed version of ‘Sound of Silence,” I couldn’t agree more. As a Holocaust scholar, it hurts my soul to see so many fellow Americans ignore what is happening in our country. Granted, it’s always easier to stick your head in the sand and pretend that all is right with the world, rather than face the terrible truth of how far our country has drifted away from what it was intended to be. But they don’t seem to understand that to those responsible for this decline, silence is considered acceptance. Like the Germans in the 1930’s and 40’s, Americans don’t seem to understand what they and our country might be forced to reckon with as a result of their silence and apathy. Like the Germans, Americans won’t “get it” until they’re forced to live with the consequences of their apathy. Germany is still working frantically to make amends for their Holocaust history, and even after 70+ years of hard work, they are still paying the price for their support for Hitler and the Nazi Party which resulted in the deaths of 13 million innocent men, women and children. I would hate to think that America might be forced to follow in Germany’s difficult footsteps simply because Americans were too frightened, too indifferent, or too “busy,” to take a stand against bigotry, racism, and nationalistic extremism.

I agree with everything you said, Suzanne! This version is definitely what we need right now. Stand up for what is right. Denounce hatred, bigotry, and the narcissistic mentality, which among other issues, have caused a complete lack of empathy and compassion for others. We don't need a con man and liar running our country. I'm not religious but doesn't the Bible say something about the Antichrist being someone who was in a politician who sits on a gold throne? Doesn't he have a gold chair he sits on in the top of Trump Tower? Also the main point the Bible is trying to teach everyone is to treat everyone as you want to be treated.

My dear, watching your face shows what this song does to me! I'm an older guy, in my 40s, and have been listening to Disturbed since their first album "The Sickness". My attraction wasn't metal, though, it was the lyrical content, brilliant clean instrumentation, and David's voice. These guys sit in my Progressive Metal collection and are in my ear daily, but I again agree that this track is where my mind was blown, almost 20 years after discovery, where David Draiman was able to use his classical training IN HIS NU METAL WAY and just send me into chills each and every time I hear it. This isn't metal, rock, or anything you want to describe it as. This is Disturbed. Enough Said.

Paul Simon himself, saw this cover and immediately sent Draiman an email and further endorsed the rendition in a tweet. From Paul Simon - "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks." Also from Paul Simon - "In case you missed it, Disturbed did a wonderful rendition of "The Sound of Silence" on Conan this week. The S&G cover also appears on Disturbed's latest album, Immortalized." (he added a link to the performance on Conan). No greater praise than that is possible, coming from the man himself.

Hearing DD's voice doing this song is incredible. SImon and Garfunkel's version, to me, sounded sad and weary, as if one were despairing about the inevitability of the loss of connection to others. But Disturbed's version sounds sad, yes, but there's a sense of heartache to it, then rage at what's happening. S&G's version is sorrowful, but Disturbed's version sounds HAUNTED. It made me cry the first time I heard it.

I strongly recommend watching their performance of this song on Conan O'Brien. I'm not necessarily suggesting you make a reaction video of it since it'd be redundant and lacking the true reaction element since it'd be a song you'd already heard but it's definitely worth checking out solely for how studio-perfect David is in that performance.
