David doesn't use Auto-tune; he HATES it. In fact, during the Conan performance that everyone is going to ask you to see, the producers decided to use it and it REALLY pissed him off. Paul Simon loved this cover. I love both mainly because Simon and Garfunkel's felt like a warning to their generation about the cost of isolationism, censorship, and the worship of the sensational materialism vs David's vocal which feels both sad and furious about how those warnings went unheeded and we are living in a time that we were warned about. I agree because there is a 20-piece orchestra behind him for it, the backstage people came out to see who was singing, audience members said the applause and standing ovation lasted over 10 minutes, that performance was nominated for a Grammy, and it got over 100 million views. I would like the have a DVD of the video of the studio version with the audio of the Conan Show. David was sick with a fever when he did the Conan Show and still pulled it off. I am 76 and have heard the Simon & Garfunkel version and many others since but it was when I heard the version by Disturbed that I understood the song. Have read that this is the only cover of this song that Paul Simon likes. I'm looking forward to more of your reactions. Thanks! And when he did the Conan show, he was sick. You may have been led to think (because of so many songs in the last forty years done that way) that trilling and running on notes in a song conveys passion or emotion; maybe now you see that the opposite is actually true - holding and sustaining a note - with a clear, trained and unaltered voice conveys so, so much more honesty and sincerity of emotion it raises the bar to another level altogether. You got and felt the message in the words, didn't you?

It’s almost like I’m listening to him with no prior knowledge?? Why don’t you go back to watching reactors who are pretending to you they haven’t seen it so you can bark like a good little seal for another fish as they tell you what you want to hear? 😂😂😂

I think you should check out a few of their classic songs, such as “Down With The Sickness” or “Stupify” and then check out “The Light” for another change of direction.

Not auto tune. Phaser and reverb with echo

Sorry to disappoint…David doesn’t use auto tune. You need to check his live performance on Conan. He is fantastic live and his live performances are awesome! Great singer. His band Disturbed is Heavy Metal so this is a softer side of this band.
@SoulSingerDiscovers Жыл бұрын
No disappointment here, he is absolutely pitch corrected in this track but tbh pitch correction is pretty standard for a lot of projects this size. Still an amazing singer!

I recommend anything from Faith No More. Songs like Ashes to Ashes, Evidence, or Just a man. Even their cover of The Commodores song, Easy.
@terraphon Жыл бұрын
David neither uses nor needs autotune. He has a natural range of B♭1-G♯5 and, as was said in another comment, all of the resonances and vibrato are him, and him alone.
@SoulSingerDiscovers Жыл бұрын
Pitch correction or not, this statement is just straight up incorrect. Any singer who is recorded is no longer ‘just them’. Mics, rooms, EQ, plug-ins. No one’s voice if recorded is just them. But pop off sis
@terraphon Жыл бұрын
@@SoulSingerDiscovers Ok, you go ahead and mince words. You know exactly what I mean, though. By the time you're mixed and mastered you don't sound exactly like you did in the booth, either but that doesn't mean you had pitch correction applied. You heard auto-tune where there's no auto-tune. Don't straw-man it, just accept the error and move on.
@SoulSingerDiscovers Жыл бұрын
@@terraphon go and read the pinned comment and click the link. The error is embarrassingly yours. Let me guess you read an interview where David talked about how he hates it. You believed a celebrity was speaking facts and now youre butt hurt because you don’t understand what it actually means. What an absolute clown. I bet your Facebook is filled with sensational articles you cite to people in real arguments. 😂

Does Disturbed's version of 'The Sound of Silence' use Auto Tune? This guy does a thorough analysis of isolated voice from the studio version and the Conan performance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJDLamB5pdOSq7s
@winstonwright3613 Жыл бұрын
There IS pitch correction, but not Auto-Tune. The British guitarist dude put it thru wave form analysis and showed it. But pitch correction is WAY different than letting a computer go buck wild and change whatever it wants. (For the commenters, not you. I know you know the dif.)
@SoulSingerDiscovers Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Do you have a link to that vid we can post? Folks on here have taken one passing comment so personally as an attack 🙄 as a direct result of the fanbase behaviour I won’t be doing any Disturbed again. A link I could pin would put it to bed nicely 👍😊
@winstonwright3613 Жыл бұрын
@@SoulSingerDiscovers kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJDLamB5pdOSq7s&feature=share8 Sure. There it is. He shows the auto tune on the Conan performance, the absence of it (but pitch correction) in the studio version, and how it sounds live with no correction, and how the notes will hardly ever fall right on the line.
@winstonwright3613 Жыл бұрын
And for what it's worth... I hope you actually DO end up doing some further Disturbed. I think you'd get a kick out of Down With The Sickness. Thanks for putting the time Into making videos in the first place! :-)

I've seen Disturbed a few times over the decades and that's David's voice. He doesn't use auto tune. I believe he's a trained cantor and he's also classically trained as well. The band and especially David are immensely talented. Btw you're an incredible soul singer!

Knew you were Scottish! I have a friend in the Shetland Islands. David Draiman was trained as a Jewish Cantor. NO! No autotune!!! A little post work but no autotune! He GLARED on camera at the sound guy on Conan for using it! What happened after..... He chose to extend the consonants for effect - the "r" and "n"..... "Down With The Sickness"
