Dixie Chicken is about a guy that meets a girl that rocks his world and in a drunken haze marries her. Her trademark is the song she sings. She leaves him one day and he goes back to the place where they met. The bartender happens to mention he knows her and then hums that signature song and all the other guys there knew it too. Lyrics - I've seen the bright lights of Memphis and the Commodore Hotel And underneath a street lamp, I met a Southern Belle Well, she took me to the river where she casts her spell And in that southern moonlight, she sang the song so well If you'll be my Dixie Chicken, I'll be your Tennessee Lamb And we can walk together down in Dixieland Down in Dixieland Well, we made all the hot spots, my money flowed like wine And then that lowdown southern whiskey began to fog my mind And I don't remember church bells or the money I put down On the white picket fence and boardwalk of the house at the edge of town Oh, but boy do I remember the strain of her refrain And the nights we spent together, and the way she called my name If you'll be my Dixie Chicken, I'll be your Tennessee Lamb And we can walk together down in Dixieland Down in Dixieland Well, it's been a year since she ran away Guess that guitar player sure could play She always liked to sing along, she's always handy with a song Then one night in the lobby of the Commodore Hotel I chanced to meet a bartender who said he knew her well And as he handed me a drink, he began to hum a song And all the boys there at the bar began to sing along If you'll be my Dixie Chicken, I'll be your Tennessee Lamb And we can walk together down in Dixieland Down in Dixieland

She ran off with a guitar player she met in the lobby of the same hotel he picked her up in, (the commodore hotel) and when he went to the bar to drown his sorrows, he realized that the bar tender and every other man in the bar also knew that sweet refrain and started singing along to it. I had to check the lyrics (which are cool) to find out what goes on in the song. Second half of the first line of the chorus is “Tennessee Lamb”.

Waiting For Columbus. In my humble opinion one of the top three live albums ever released. If you start turning that LP you'll never stop. Top Shelf for sure !

I lived in Austin for 10 years mid80-90. Saw a Who’s Who list of bands that came through. Saw The Feat 4 times and they were hands down without a doubt the best live shows I’ve ever been to.

I was pulling for Little Feat, but was hoping that it wouldn't be this song....I knew it would be, but was still hoping. It's not a great song. I would really like to hear LET IT ROLL or HATE TO LOSE YOUR LOVIN' instead. Yep, I know that they were newer, but they also sound like they REALLY have it all together on that album. They were very much a "jam band" back in the day and then pulled together a great album.

I never knew that I would like so many Little Feat song's because this was their only song that I was familiar with and it didn't inspire me to listen to more of their songs

Let It Roll *is* a great album, but I wouldn't have said to start there simply because it's post-Lowell. Gotta get the founding members in there.

There actually is MORE to listening to music than focusing on every conceivable flaw or imperfection.

Many of the imperfections were what made music in our day awesome. Music isn’t always meant to be “clean.”

I've seen the bright lights of Memphis and the Commodore Hotel And underneath a street lamp, I met a Southern Belle Well, she took me to the river where she casts her spell And in that southern moonlight, she sang the song so well If you'll be my Dixie Chicken, I'll be your Tennessee Lamb And we can walk together down in Dixieland Down in Dixieland Well, we made all the hot spots, my money flowed like wine And then that lowdown southern whiskey began to fog my mind And I don't remember church bells or the money I put down On the white picket fence and boardwalk of the house at the edge of town Oh, but boy do I remember the strain of her refrain And the nights we spent together, and the way she called my name If you'll be my Dixie Chicken, I'll be your Tennessee Lamb And we can walk together down in Dixieland Down in Dixieland Well, it's been a year since she ran away Guess that guitar player sure could play She always liked to sing along, she's always handy with a song Then one night in the lobby of the Commodore Hotel I chanced to meet a bartender who said he knew her well And as he handed me a drink, he began to hum a song And all the boys there at the bar began to sing along If you'll be my Dixie Chicken, I'll be your Tennessee Lamb And we can walk together down in Dixieland Down in Dixieland

You need to listen to live version of this song off of Waiting for Columbus.....

When I first met my now ex, she insisted I listen to this song. I blew right by that red flag 🚩 I was her #2 husband. Last I heard she was on #4. I went off to drive a truck for the next 28 years. With that said you should listen to one of their trucking songs, Willin’.

I'm surprised that there aren't more comments on The Last Record Album, been my favourite with Waiting for Columbus for years. Mercenary Territory, Romance Dance, just two of the great songs on TLRA.
