help American teenagers have a future by telling them to go and get an apprentice job learning to repair basic home appliances, this can open their mind to understand mechanical engineering and also give them Insight in how to run their own business. wouldn't it be great if your teenager grew up and started a business that they could actually make more money than you and hire you their parent to come and work for them? how do we get jobs back in america? we start teaching skills!

This is what we need to do, get back to basics and learn to repair them not throwing them away. I live in Australia and lots of older generations I speak to wish that appliances and other goods can be repaired. I am a strong believer that we should be repairing rather than throwing away.

In the old days, school had a "Co-operative Education Program." Students trained for work while attending high school. *Apprenticeships *Paid Internships *Co-operative Education *Habitat for Humanity Working 15-20 hrs per week for pay would keep high schoolers in school. Put 10% of the pay in a Roth IRA to start saving for retirement.

My teenager fixed my dryer after watching a KZbin video after the repairman quoted me $400. My son just needed a $35 part, and it took 30 minutes

Well you were paying the repairman for his time his labor and for the part. But he needs to make a profit off that part not just break even. This is why it’s better to learn how to fix things yourself. So good job on your son. But then learning how to do things yourself affects the economy because jobs will be lost. It’s a double edge sword

I do this every day. I work with exceptional people and meet new people every day. People rely upon my knowledge and abilities and are very generous when you fix their problems. I’ve built several friendships amongst my acquaintances through work. I add to my knowledge every day and every day is unique. I work out of the weather and in climate controlled environments 99% of the time. I have ample time for personal adventures and occasionally work 4 days a week at 10 hrs a day. I love my job.

I've always been fascinated with washing machines ever since I was around 3 yeats old and loved watching them go through their cycle and always watched videos on how they worked and how to fix them which is how I self taught myself about them. I then started collecting and repairing them as one of my hobbies including diagnosing and fixing our own machines including some other family members machines etc. I also always been inspired by my Dad as well since he is an engineer and always been inrested in field of engineering and always wanted to become one myself. Now I am 16 and I absolutely love working on washers and dryers as my hobby and I am thinking of starting my very own businesses in the near future.

I’ve been in this trade for over 20 yrs and own my own small repair business outside of Los Angeles for almost 10yrs now and I’ll be the first to say that it’s incredibly difficult to find good help with appliance repair experience. I’ve needed techs for going on 7 months now and can’t seem to find anyone who knows how or wants to know how to repair appliances

My Maytag had a wire clip pop off and it tripped the breaker after basically welding it self on to another piece of metal. Put a new clip on the wire. But had to tear entire dryer apart. Literally fixed it for nothing. My maytags are prolly 20 years old. That was the only issue I’ve ever had. No issues with the washer at all.

Love it. Wish school actually taught u things that really needed to be taught like trades do. I love being a appliance tech and helping others out. Great business. Thinking about starting my own I already do it on the side and work doing it full time just getting things setup is key. Being certified Nate cert and getting EPA cert working on refrigerants universally. Then getting your own business online going u don't need a building just use your home for stock or have the parts sent to customers home or go to warehouse buy the parts directly. Stuff is easy just advertise it

You are correct. America has 2.7M people incarerated. Training people in the Trades is an excellent way to reduce recidivism rates which reduces the need to pay to keep people locked up. Rehabilitation for those who canbe rehabilitated. Not all inmates can be. But, those who can be should be.

The problem is that the corporations making things “not to last” and the extremely high price of labor and parts. It ends up being cheaper to replace something then to get it fixed. Mostly though it boils down to time . Making a quick swap is faster and sometimes cheaper because time is money and nobody wants to sit around and wait to get on the schedule for a professional appliance repair technician. Everybody’s looking for instant gratification.

I worked on heavy equipment straight out of high school for about a decade. The experience was great but the pay was garbage, I went to school nights and weekends and graduated college at 29. Until we stop importing the cheapest garbage and actually produce things that are durable and repairable there’s really no future for many people in doing so.

The problem is that so many appliances are built to fail. If they do need repairs parts are not available. My parents had a 6 year old washer where the control board went bad. A untested used replacement was 1/3 the cost of a new washer. A new board was more than 1/2 the cost. Thus the old one got tossed.
