Done 8 e-bike conversions - 3 hubs, 5 mid-drives. Like Bafang BBS02 best - motor is 9.5 lbs. Look up "Johnny Nerd Out" channel, he's done 100's. Hubs are nice for Flats, battery killers on hills. Spokes tend to stretch more with hubs, hear the Tink, Tink when riding. Yup torque arm required for hubs. Watch "High Voltage " channel. His BBSHD w/ASI BAC 800 on a Specialized Fat Tire is a Boss Bike.

You can put the cassette freehub body in a oven for about 10 minutes and the bearings can be pressed in by hand. Clean off any grease first though. Makes it super easy. Put the bearings in the freezer first. Almost forgot about that.

Not tightening spokes will also cause flats. Those rear hubs will loosen spokes over short periods of time.

Thank you Aaron, theses are nice tips, I got a 175mm rear hub motor on the shelve, cause my bike is just 170mm, so nothing would fit. So I deiced to leave it as. After this winter season the planetary gears need some replacing one of the 28T Gear has 14 of em left. So in April I should receive the puller and the gears and do my first motor repair. It's really nice to see your kind of videos it helps out a lot. Plus you 3d printing skills are great. On a other bike I did a DIY as well a bit like yours but mid drive and dual battery. Feel free to check out my tube.

Glad I could help. Yes! A motor puller (stator puller) is crucial for motor repairs. I’ll take a look at your videos.
@FightFilms2 жыл бұрын
It's not likely the dropouts caused the bearing wear unless the hub is designed poorly. Still, putting pressure there would grind the wheel to a halt quickly. Bad bearings and/or poor tolerance were the culprit IMO.

Chinese bearings took out the Zumwalt destroyer. He thinks he's bought authentic Japanese bearings, but the packaging may not align with the contents. Thanks China.

The same with EV car tires. They will wear out faster and frequent tire rotations are necessary to even out the wear on all four tires.

Thanks for the fine video. Those Schwalbe tires look interesting. The tires that came on my Trek Verve 3 are very much road tires so i am interested to see how they do on gravel. Will try the schwalbe on the front if the stock tire feels sketchy. My build is a bafang BBS02 48v mid drive with a premium 20ah battery. So far so good. Using a release agent, i beddded the battery mount plate to the down tube for a perfect fit with epoxy. No more jiggling and very much improved fit.

I need to get me one of these to get to work and back. How fast does it go maxiimum without over pushing the motor
@AaronsCreations Жыл бұрын
About ~55kph without any pedalling (on motor power)
@tr1707 Жыл бұрын
How much harder is it to pedal an custom ebike on your own, like this one, than your bicycle before the conversion?
@AaronsCreations Жыл бұрын
There is a negligible resistance from the motor, however the additional weight is quite apparent. As long as you have gears, you won’t notice it all that much!
@tr1707 Жыл бұрын
@@AaronsCreations Thanks for your response. I ask because my primary method of commuting will be leg power, but I wanted to add the motor as a backup source of power
@AaronsCreations Жыл бұрын
In that instance, either go mid drive (I will be releasing a mid-drive eBike build video soon) or use a smaller (lighter) hub motor
@connicrow9463 Жыл бұрын
Why didn't you show the before and after pic of the cassette hub which you narrowed down by taking out a cog from 7 to 6 ? Actually why didn't you just get a quality 6 cog cassette which presumeably is narrower? would be easier than the bearing install no?

Oh, those Slime tire tubes didnt work well for me. Bought 3 and first one exploded while pumping up air. 2nd one the air just left tire and took out and the slime didnt work of the hole. Found out there was a twist in the rim film so I fixed this but I expected the Slime tire to do what it was advertised to do. I left tubes to use patch work later on..

I've used slim before and hate it, makes it more difficult to repair flats and almost always plugs the valve stem as well as add more weight.. this can all be solves easy by buying a worthy Tuffy.

So cool! I am also on this plan of making an ebike, and I am really enjoying the process! I literally measured every dimension related with the installation before making the purchase. One technical question though how did you calculate the curvature of the plastic components to fit the frame? Like mine is not perfectly round so it makes the sketches harder
@AaronsCreations2 жыл бұрын
My method is taking a photo of the triangle, importing it into Fusion 360 then tracing a 3D mesh using the photo as a guide.

Very awesome DIY E BIKE BUILD. If you plan on making another one, can I suggest using a bike frame with DUAL SHOCKS./? I have 2 e bikes, 1 factory made MTB with just front shocks and other is CKit Build using Next Power Climber DUAL Shocks. There is extreme difference when riding, the 1 shock bike is rough after the front forks and always have to lift up butt when coming across obstacles of bumps, pot holes, ect. With Dual shock bike it is extremely awesome to ride over obstacles going fast and having bike adapt to conditions of road. It is the 2 piece Dual Shock bike frames I believe is the best perfect frame to handle suspension. Believe why them 3000watt and up e bikes using them Enduro frames BASED ON THEM FRAME DESIGNS as there are many bike brands that sell them for cheaper price to use for e bike build. BIG DIFFERENCE OF COMFORT.
@AaronsCreations2 жыл бұрын
You couldn’t have put it any better. Dual shocks are a must once you step into the territory of high watt output motors. I have a few plans for a dual shock bike conversion but unfortunately haven’t had the time nor budget. Maybe in the future though 😃

Yup, as mentioned in the video. Buy higher quality bearings as replacements. NTN is the brand I went with. Each costed around 5-10$. 2 of them are needed (different sizes).
