I think the key to retaining length is keeping your hair stretched and moisturized. I didn’t realize how important stretching was to prevent tangles and knots until a few years ago after over a decade of being natural. Our hair is very close to the same length but I use completely different products lol. Your hair is beautiful!

What products do you use and what type of hair do you have
@chocolat917
@chocolat917 11 ай бұрын
@@thatonegirl1353 i still use kinky curly products, but I actually make my own leave in as well. It’s a bit of a process but the base is Mafura and mango butter. A recipe I got from Whole Elise here on YT. I used to use Shea moisture but I got tired of them changing the formula so I went on a quest and she has tutorials on how to make it. I just remixed it a little to include ingredients I like.

@@thatonegirl1353 also, I avoid coconut oil and aloe Vera at ALL costs. It does not agree with my hair and I’m extremely protein sensitive. If I am going to straighten my hair I use olaplex or some sort of bond strengthener but I only straighten once or twice a year.

My chebe arrived! Mixed it similar to you, but with olive oil, half teaspoon of coconut oil and small amount of my favorite conditioner. Today is day 3 , where I would normally need to re-moisturize. Nope, not dry. I only apply it on the last 3 to 4 inches, avoiding my scalp.

Just now understanding that “black” hair growth is all about retaining length. For some time I thought my hair just couldn’t grow. I literally had super short hair all my teen years like literally barely could fit in a ponytail and then accidentally grew it by leaving in some conrows for a year. (Take em out and refresh them once they got too fuzzy) wear a wig everyday. My hair is a little past my collarbone now and I feel like I’ve reached a plateau. I want to get my hair to tailbone length eventually.

girl yes! keep doing exactly what you're doing & you'll be amazed at how long your hair will get. my natural hair is waist length now because I always wear wigs. & as a kid I literally couldn't get it past chin length. just keep your scalp clean & hair moisturized in those cornrows!

If there is anyone who can tell me how to grow my relaxed hair without protective styling. Although I have never relaxed my hair, I did straighten it once a month/every two weeks for like 15 years. I didn’t have a problem with growth but I did have a problem with retention. I’m also more scissor happy with straight hair than I am with protective styling. I know this doesn’t answer your question but maybe focusing on retention instead of growth may give you a different perspective. I’m pretty sure your hair is growing but it might be breaking off faster than it is growing. I am not an expert by any means but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

How frequently do you apply the mixture? I know you said when your hair is in twists, & similar styles, but how often do you style your hair like this (approximately) and do you reapply it daily before wrapping your hair at night?. I'm trying to get an idea on how I can incorporate this into my routine. Thanks so much for sharing, you're so right about the effectiveness of simplicity. 🩷
@milami.
@milami. Жыл бұрын
I’ll do it twice a week max but mainly once a week. I don’t apply it at night. My twist are usually in a bun and will still be wet even if it’s five days later. I’ll take my bun out sometime during the week to let my scalp dry so it doesn’t get irritated. Hopefully that helps.
