For the next video in our DIY Holiday Projects series Fat Quarter Shop, we will be teaching you how to make this super useful microwavable bowl cozy. All it takes is some Wrap-N-Zap Natural batting, two prints from a layer cake, and you’re set to stitch! This is perfect for those holiday leftovers as you can put your bowl in the cozy then pop in the microwave. The bowl cozy protects your hands from hot bowls when you remove them from the microwave, and helps to keep your food insulated. This DIY project is very easy and fun to make!
*Note: We do not recommend using regular batting for this project if you intend to microwave the cozy. Some battings may melt or catch fire, but Wrap-N-Zap is safe to microwave.

I have always made them with 2 layers of batting. Since watching this video, I made one with only layer and tested it. The 1 layer is flimsier than a 2 layer cozy, but the 1 layer does protect your hands from the heat. It is warm, but not uncomfortable to me or my husband. Just my 2 cents.

I love this! I made one doing another way, you had to cut and sew more. It was a pain, so I only made 1. This looks really easy and quick! Thank you!

For us sewing newbies: When doing this project it is best if you keep everything Cotton, including the thread. Big factor when wanting to avoid microwave fires. Remember certain fabrics and threads do not work well in the microwave world.

You won't like it with one layer. They are flimsy.
