I don't know what's better the grinder coming apart or the splitter taking a nose dive on the first split. Page right out of my book.

If everything went perfectly to plan what fun would that be?!

Add a jack on the heavy end. I used a pivoting strut under mine. I can flip it up and pin it when moving the splitter.

Great job. Put a hitch and jack on the front side so you can pull either direction and it won't tip over. You guys are awesome!

Thanks for watching! Not sure how many more modifications George wants to make, I think he’s pretty happy how it sits!

Enjoyed this build series. I’m in the process of modifying a 25 year old splitter and adding some cool features. The die grinder with the nut falling off was hysterical! You should look into a plasma cutter, love mine!!!

Glad you enjoyed, and thank for watching. I’ve looked at plasma cutters and just haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Every day I get closer and closer to buying one.

Hi Elliott and George, Just put a camper levelling jack under the wedge end. Make sure to set it back far enough not to interfere with the conveyor fitting under it. Pulling it down the road is going to be tough due to tail wagging. As I said in my email check how the beam mounts to the oil tank it looks to be the same as my Speeco, that is the weak link on these splitter once you add all that extra weight on it. Now that it is a push thru wedge you also don't need to or want to have the pieces pop like that. Grind it on a really steep angle so that it slices thru knots and you will end up with cleaner splits. When I built 4 ways I angle the wings against the main wedge to allow them to slice better. Nice job.

Thanks for the comment and email! The tank is actually seperate of the tank on this unit. There are 2 hung points on the hydraulic tank that the beam connect to, hopefully those don’t transfer any force!

You`re going to need a jackstand under that catch tray fella`s. By the time you start pushing wood onto that catch tray, its gonna tip downward. You won`t even need those brake rotors for weight if you add a jackstand to the other end under your catch tray.

I believe that was on George's wish list, we just didn't have time to do it while it was at my house...

Very nice job fellas look good those short pieces of wood sure do like to pop comin off the splitter. Dad n I made a splitter and we put the largest cylinder on it from tractor supply and we took it to my aunts house to help her clean up some storm damage. She had the tree service cut trees out of her drive we got the wood course the tree service cut them all different sizes n let me tell u the short one popes once that second stage hit they went flying I bet 5 feet or so lol we found out quickly not to stand in front of them haha great video n modifications

I done this with a box store splitter that had a full beam with 3/8 flange and a sandwich style push wedge. I only used the beam and cylinder. I raised it to 34" to fit my height on a narrow trailer axle. I added a much bigger engine and pump and bigger hyd tank . I put the tongue and jack on business end for the weight issue. Good luck with your build!!

The pop is from catching on ramp lip. Gotta fix that before you get one in the face or nuts. Congrats on the build!

You asked for a comment so just an fyi. Always grind a bevel on piece to be joined to primary piece. This provides better penetration at the root to give maximum strength.
@EverythingElliott
@EverythingElliott Жыл бұрын
Oh I’m well aware of that. But the amount of grinding we had to do on those blades we were over using the grinder.

Be SUPER cautious when you put the 4 way on. If a piece of wood is running up that ramp just before the wedge the 4 way will be directly in the path of the log moving up vertically. You'll definitely need a stand under the outfeed end. It would potentially be a better option to move the wheel under your outfeed table if that could be manage. That would mostly get them out of the way and would reduce the chance of the splitting tipping up to zero.

I know it doesn’t look like it but there’s almost a 2” gap between the ramp and the start of the wedge, should give it enough time to ride up before contacting the 4 way knife. And i think George is planning on putting a trailer Jack under then outfeed table to manage the balancing issue
