There are many people who want to know the WHY behind making your own products at home because it's easier to buy them in the stores. If I left out the explanation on the toxins found in store-bought dish washing soaps, others would be upset that there wasn't enough information. So this way, all types of people can be helped! :)

Mine didn't thicken after using organic vegetable glycerin in place of the kosher salt I didn't have on hand. Still without the kosher salt, I used my pink Himalayan salt and it worked like a charm. In fact, it began thickening immediately. I LOVE it! Thanks so much for the recipe!

I found any soap grated into my mixture, including Kirks pure Castile and Ivory adds some suds. Dove suds up in my hand soap formula. A few pumps of my cheap Equate liquid soap from Walmart, added to my homemade soap for dishes also adds a few suds. Sals suds is very expensive.

I had a go at your recipe since the liquid gel soap I've been making seems to leave a film and water spots behind, which, I think, is due to the Fels Naptha soap. Through researching since making it the first time, I've learned that soap is quite different than detergent. I didn't have kosher salt on hand because I use pink Himalayan salt. I used NOW organic vegetable glycerin as my thickening agent and am presently waiting for it to cool and thicken. I figured it would accomplish the same purpose as kosher salt as it's what I used to thicken the liquid dish gel. Thank you for sharing.

Hi Kari! So in the blog post I explain more about this. So there is a myth with Sodium Laureth Sulfate. It becomes toxic because of the way it's processed - a toxic by-product is created in the processing. Dr. Bronner's uses a process that ensures there isn't that toxic byproduct. I have a link with more information in the blog post.

Made this twice already. First time gelled nicely, but once cooled it separated. I thought maybe I did something wrong. Then I made it again, and this time I added everything while the water was still warm in the pot, and then transferred it to my dish soap, container, it gelled nicely and stayed thick for a few days, but halfway into the week the soap started to separate. Is this normal? How can I prevent this from happening?

What are the sal suds only in America would like to know a brand in the uk what to buy on line and for those living in Europe.. Plastic is toxic but we cant get away from them,.I recently purchased essential oils to clean home going green and white wine vinegar for windows and mirrors and laundry makes everything brighter than never before, and no streaks unlike the regular window cleaners that are toxic when you spray them you can feel a change to your respiratory track and irritation. When spraying essential oils around the home antibacterial too. I like to wear a mask as essential oils are quite potent but do a great job, sprayed my carpets today and my bed to kills those nasty bugs that live around your home. Another tip is to seal down your sink plugs at night before bed stop the spiders getting into your home. If you have shower unit and you have a silverback problem spray the oils regularly to kill them. If they do survive however then reseal the trim around the shower unit. Essential oils are toxic to all bugs so going green with your home is the best option

I wanna follow this, but what's being said doesn't match the written recipe nor the notes popping up on the screen; only half cup of warm water was used vs 2 cups, half cup of suds was used vs 1 cup.

Sorry for the confusion, Daniel. I was making a bit less for the container I had, but follow the directions in the video description and the instructions on the screen - they are the same. It's the same recipe that's on my blog, too.

Hi Yolanda! About one month - if you think you'll use it up more slowly than that, there are some natural preservatives you can add like rubbing alcohol. Or you can refrigerate it.

Ever since detoxing from artificial fragrances a few years ago, now they flare up my asthma 😵
@MyMerryMessyGermanLife

Yes! I'm not surprised. When our bodies are exposed to harmful chemicals on a regular basis, we do develop bioaccumulation, which means that the toxins build up in our bodies and our liver, kidneys and other organs can no longer filter them out. Once you detox off of them like you have, your body can now react properly to the toxins, which is a good thing because now you know right away when something is harmful for you.

QUESTION: Since Sal Suds are soooo expensive, can I use Dr. Bronner's Castile Soap instead?
@MyMerryMessyGermanLife
@MyMerryMessyGermanLife Жыл бұрын
You could but it’s not good for washing dishes. It doesn’t side up well at all and it leaves an oily film on the dishes. So what might work well is to use another brand that’s just pure, concentrated detergent.

Why does it need to be kosher? Can sea salt work?
@MyMerryMessyGermanLife
@MyMerryMessyGermanLife 2 жыл бұрын
Sea salt doesn’t work - the solution will not gel with sea salt. I’ve tried it several times. Kosher salt is much thicker.

I’m confused I don’t know about soaps so this might be a stupid question: Why not just use that soap Dr.Bronnes Sal Suds Is it because it’s a concentrate?
@MyMerryMessyGermanLife

Yes it’s because it’s a concentrate, but you could use it! Also this recipe makes it thick whereas normally it’s watery and thin.
