Today I'm showing you how to make your very own fabric soap bundles. I'm making Rose Clay and Oatmeal Soap for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The bundles are 100% chemical-free and 100% fragrance-free.
Ingredients for Moisturizing, Anti-Itch Soap
3 pounds of Natures Garden Oatmeal Melt & Pour Soap Base
1 1/2 teaspoon Jojoba Oil // goo.gl/281XYY
1 1/2 teaspoon Avocado Oil // goo.gl/sHmwx9
1 1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E Oil (natural) // goo.gl/N6nqLZ
2 Tablespoons Vegetable Glycerin // goo.gl/KXF68M
2-3 teaspoons Rose Clay // goo.gl/mFyogW
Square Soap Loaf Mold // goo.gl/XmWsgT
Disposable Pipettes (for oils) // goo.gl/rhPf43
½ cup Rolled Oats // goo.gl/7utd6b
1 ½ Tablespoons Lavender 40/42 Essential Oil (optional) //goo.gl/Wp2DxJ
1 1/2 Tablespoons Tea Tree Essential Oil (optional) // goo.gl/MdGHhh
Other Ingredients and Equipment
Microwave-safe Mixing Bowls (2)
Food processor
Small bowl for mixing clay
Stirring Spoons
Microwave
Scale
Spatula
Spray bottle with rubbing alcohol
Step 1: Cut up (in small pieces) a total of 3 pounds of Oatmeal Melt & Pour Soap Base. For your first layer, you will need 2 pounds of the soap. Set the other 1 pound of soap base aside for your top layer.
Step 2: Prepare your natural rose clay colorant for your soap by combining 2 tablespoons of vegetable glycerin with 2-3 teaspoons rose clay. By mixing your clay with vegetable glycerin, it “wets” the clay and helps to quickly remove clumps. Your mixture should be a paste like consistency. Set aside.
Step 3: Prepare your ground oats: Measure out ½ cup rolled oats and place in a food processor until it is nicely ground. Set aside.
Step 4: In a microwave-safe mixing bowl, melt 2 pounds of Oatmeal Melt & Pour soap in the microwave. Be careful not to get your soap too hot or it can scorch. We suggest melting the soap in 30 second bursts, stirring, and placing back into the microwave until your soap base is completely melted.
Step 5: To your melted soap, add the following: 1 teaspoon avocado oil, 1 teaspoon vitamin E oil, 1 teaspoon jojoba oil, and your rose clay mixture and ½ tablespoon tea tree essential oil plus ½ tablespoon lavender 40/42 essential oil. If you want to keep your soap unscented, simply do not add essential oils. Stir until everything is mixed well.
Step 6: Pour your soap mixture into the square soap loaf mold. Spray top of soap with rubbing alcohol to remove bubbles.
Step 7: Allow this layer of soap to set up for about 15-20 minutes at room temperature.
Step 8: Prepare your second layer of soap by melting the remaining 1 pound of Oatmeal melt & pour soap base in the microwave as described previously.
Step 9: Once your soap is completely melted, add the following to your melted soap: ½ teaspoon avocado oil, ½ teaspoon jojoba oil, ½ teaspoon vitamin E oil and ½ cup ground rolled oats. ½ Tablespoon Lavender 40/42 essential oil (optional), ½ Tablespoon Tea tree essential oil (optional). Stir.
Step 10: Spray the “pink” layer of soap in the mold once again with rubbing alcohol. Doing this will allow the white oatmeal layer of soap to properly adhere to the pink layer.
Step 11: Pour the “white” oatmeal layer of soap on top of the “pink” layer, and quickly sprinkle top of soap with whole rolled oats.
Step 12: Allow your soap to set up for several hours. Cut your soap into slices, and enjoy!

Melt and pour soap has also chemicals and tons of preservatives, some of them contain SLS and SLSA. If you really want 100% natural soap, better make your own base at home using Lye.

And lye is also a chemichal. Better use fuller earth as substitute of soap. Soap always contain a minimum amount of chemicals.

Nivedita Mitra The lye converts the fatty acids and creates the soap during saponification. So the final soap has no lye in it. 😊 Melt and pours have way more chemicals in them. Pure homemade soap is always best. 😉

You should not use metal utensils when mixing the rose clay. The metal deactivates the healing properties of the clay.
@SophieUlianoGorgeouslyGreen

I didn't know that! Do you have an article that backs that up?
@debgamboa3869

Hi Sophie, I have always been told that by people when I first started making DIY beauty products. Here is one article I found and another that had directions to not use metal utensils. Sorry I can’t link them, having issues with my phone. Rose Clay mask is perfect for a brighter, softer, more glowing skin. It encourages cell renewal, and improves skin elasticity. It is suitable for all skin types, as both rose and white kaolin clays are gentle on your skin. The rose petal and chamomile powders both have anti-inflammatory properties and soothe irritated skin. Notice how incredibly soft your skin becomes after a weekly rose clay mask. INGREDIENTS: White Kaolin Clay, Rose Clay, Organic Rose Petal Powder, Chamomile Powdered Extract. DIRECTIONS: Use ½ to 1 tbsp. of clay mix. Add water, a few drops at a time, to form a smooth paste (thin if needed). Apply to face, avoiding eye area. Let dry. Rinse off. Apply moisturizer. Note: Do not use metal utensils or containers when preparing a clay mask: When the clay is activated by water, it acts like a magnet, pulling metals and toxins in.

Here is the article I found. Can you mix Fuller's earth and kaolin in metal containers? 2 ANSWERS Erin Chang Erin Chang, research chemist, Renaissance woman Answered May 6, 2017 · Author has 1.1k answers and 4.8m answer views It depends on what you mean by “mix.” If you are sifting dry clays together (wear a dust mask!), you can use a metal catch pan, so long as you don't leave your material in it for storage and its residence time is brief. If you plan to slurry your clays in water, do not use a metal container or a metal utensil. Clays typically contain some level of ionizable material, and this will react with metal. The reaction will change the clay’s properties and may damage your metal implements. These reactions will occur both in water and while dry; they’re just much faster when water is present to act as a solvent. For this reason, any wet preparation or long-term wet/dry storage should be done in containers made from glass, ceramic, or highly stable plastic like polyethylene terephthalate (PET). 829 Views · View 4 Upvoters · Answer requested by

You can just mix it with 91-99% rubbing alcohol (3 TBS). The whole point is to simply turn the clay into a liquid that can be mixed with the soap. As the soap dries, all alcohol evaporates and none is left in the bar.

You can. I make soaps all the time, melt and pour and cold process. I prefer goats milk for the melt and pour, its hardens well and makes tons of bubbles.
