Of the two builds, do you have a favorite? Which one and why?
@calcifires
@calcifires 2 жыл бұрын
I'd say this is my preferred build because it actually incorporates what makes the Havak unique-- the three different grips-- into the build. Matt definitely made a slick build using what he had on hand, but I def don't have 6 knurled handles just lying around lol

Yours. Yours is more DIY friendly and doesn't need additional equipment (grips/different lenght of bolts) to achieve the original functionality of the tool.

I honestly like both and feel like there's two options for people based on their existing plates inventory, tools, accessories, and how much they want to spend. I like Matt integrating metal handles and posts but Kaizen insetting the dowels I'm sure is very strong as well.

Great stuff. I'm contemplating trying to build a flywheel box/diy kbox for my twin teenage sons. Any experience there? They are high school basketball players and I think it would be a good training aid because it doesn't impact recovery the same way heavy squats or even belt squats might. They have several games per week and I don't want training to impede practice or game day performance.
@KaizenDIYGym
@KaizenDIYGym 2 жыл бұрын
I think that’s a great idea. I have no personal experience using a flywheel but I follow several people on Instagram who use one for training. If you’re on IG, connect with me on there and I’ll point you to their accounts. Additionally, there’s a $10 manual you can purchase from @bbaperformance that lists all of the materials with links to purchase. I bought it and plan on making mine in the coming months.

I was thinking the same. The handle positions on these sort of mimic a kettle bell when in use and it'd be good to see dumbbells that are held from a handle that is in-line with the centre hole of the plates to give a more balanced feel with less leverage acting on the wrists especially in pressing movements. These are very well replicated so I'd love to see what you come up with there also keeping to the strong but inexpensive philosophy of course lol

Excellent video, explanation and build! Question - do you think the weight loading dowels are secure enough? I think you said you drilled 1/4" and glued and screwed. Thanks
@KaizenDIYGym
@KaizenDIYGym 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I think the weight bearing ability of the dowels will depend on the amount of weight you’re using. I put 80 pounds on one of them to see how much weight would fit. I wouldn’t trust it over my head though. For the most part, I probably won’t be putting more than 20-30 pound on each one, so I think they’ll hold up fine. There are definitely options to reinforce for heavier weights if needed.

To be honest, I’ve only used them for one actual workout so far. I didn’t have a chance to fully use them before releasing the video. I do like them, they add a lot of variety to standard dumbbell movements. With the weight pins off the sides, they are bulky at times, so that can be restrictive. But overall they’re worth the time they took to build.

Everybody is telling this shock is a bullshit idea/product but how about thinking the fact that lot’s of bikes are also offering non-proprietary but very poor performing shocks and maybe instead of getting Deluxe or other random piggybackless shock here you have a shock that most likely is better. And tons of people are into getting an aftermarket shock anyways. Also there are many bikes with decent shocks that are still upgraded sooner or later.
