Really good video production. What I like about this build is the mixing of two worlds, the modern technology, with a retro look. The case kind of looks like some nicely crafted furniture from back in the 1960's or 70's, and then there's all the up to date tech inside it... a really nice combination.

I often have some things to say about the part selection in this type of videos, but here, everything makes sense. You put a 10400F on a B460 board, use 32Gb of RAM (since it is necessary in todays' heavier games), use a great high capacity NVMe SSD, have a great CPU/GPU combo, etc... everything is well thought out. Congrats on your build, hope it serves you well 😉
@mxcbuilds66333 жыл бұрын
Thank you! It sure was a sensible build from the start, buying last gen CPU and Mobo on clearance saved me quite alot. As well as getting the used 1080ti from eBay. The ram is mainly for when I do 3D modelling, some of the more complex models really start eating up my ram.
@Hateroz3 жыл бұрын
@@mxcbuilds6633 I'm happy you're pleased with your build. I thought the i5-10400F wouldn't be that powerful for a 1080 Ti but, depending on the use you make of your PC and the resolution you're running it at, it should actually be enough. Since you're 3D modeling on your machine, I don't think this CPU is a bottleneck. Did you thought of buying an i5-11400F at some point?It's quite the bump in performance over this 10th gen part and is around the same price, isn't it ?
@mxcbuilds66333 жыл бұрын
The initial plan was to get a 11400F but prices here in australia meant that there was about a 100AUD difference for the CPU and about and 80AUD different for a B560 MOBO. So I opted to save myself the money and just buy slightly older hardware. I dont really need the extra performance at this point in time anyways.
@dihydrogenmonoxide92103 жыл бұрын
32GBs of memory isn't necessary but it's good for future-proofing. 16 gbs can also play games absolutely fine
@Erowens983 жыл бұрын
@@dihydrogenmonoxide9210 it's useful for CAD. Complex assemblies in fusion 360, or solid works, can use up a good bit of ram. I know this case was designed on Fusion 360 so it's worth mentioning. If you like to play around with CAD (or are a pro engineer) then 32Gb is minimum Imo. You can get away with less, since windows knows how to compress ram when you overload it, but this leads to suboptimal performance.

I wonder now if i should revisit DIYing a PC case. Now that i use parametric CAD and 3D print, this solves a lot of finicky little issues. I could fold things into a given space. I could give it a top loader optical drive, made from a laptop drive with eject mechanism disabled and tray endstop switch relocated to the lid.

Great build! Only two things could have been a little better for next time imo. 1) a little cut could be drilled in the wood over the vertical gpu bracket screw (to not damage the wood when its installed and give a better screw angle) 2) the glue is visible on the metal dots that holds the glass plate in place. I think blacks metal dots and less glue could help this. Another way could be to spray paint a black border on the glass that also covers the wood frame.
@mxcbuilds66333 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Yeah I agree with point 1 where there was access issues with the GPU mounting. I did the best I could with even application of the glue on the magnets. I didn't want to paint the black rim as I wanted to show off the solid wood frame of the case.

You should hve romoved that paper sticker from the m2 ssd otherwise that thermoconductive pad on the heatsink has no purpose. Paper/adhesive papaer/stikers are a heat barrier and it is keeping the heat in that spot. No biggie but I think you could benefit with a couple of degrees difference.
@mxcbuilds66333 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I believe most stickers on these SSDs are some sort of metallic sticker that doesn't insulate much heat. And most people don't remove them as doing so likely voids the warranty. I could be wrong, but as you said the difference is negligible
