@HighVybeTribe ive been happy with this radio , everything about it. I've got the older model that doesn't have the buttons like this one. It's touch sense buttons. It's glitched a time or two in 3 years and I've just turned off the truck and turned it back on and came right back. Ive got two 12 inch tw3 jl audios on rockford t1000.1 in a 2016 f350 and my volume sets about 28-30 and it's jamming hard. I've got input sound levels turned up to about 8 out of 10. It's got a great eq that's sufficient for most people. I've also got a rca to hdmi convertor hooked to a firestick and we watch TV in the truck at lunch lol. Matter of fact I watched this video on it sitting at dealership waiting to buy a truck. Lol.

Long term review from an older model: Boss BCPA9 (Wired Apple CarPlay). I''ve had it in my 2012 Honda Civic for almost two years attached to a Dayton Audio DSP which outputs to a Audio Dynamics 2-Channel and Monoblock. It sounds great! A couple issues I have had with my older model is that the screen is too bright even at it's darkest settings, and sometimes CarPlay will randomly disconnect. My issues with it disconnecting only started three months ago, and I haven't been able to test if it is caused by the phone, or by the Radio.

1yr owner and I've installed a good dozen of them with no issues. As an installer I understand the hate Boss get these days because let's be honest, they dropped the ball for some years but the Elite line is their attempt to make their name decent again. Trust me I would talk customers out of using a Boss radio for years until the pandemic hit and radios were hard to get. After installing a few of them and 2 of them being for good customers I was surprised by the quality they put into it and bought one myself and replaced my Kenwood DMX125bt. Now if you have the money for a JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer or Stinger 10" of course they are gonna be a better radio but for someone who doesn't want to spend 1,500 on a radio the boss is a great bang for the buck.

And went back to my current kenwood dmx7704s headunit. Fast forward to now when I left a 2 star review on Amazon. The seller "boss audio" wants to resolve my issue with the headunit. I recently installed an entire system with Alpine gear and was disappointed with the overall performance and numbers. I have a similar head unit, also from BOSS (BVCP9700A- FL). Only 7 inches, but a supposed 85 Watts per channel max. Based on the 15 amp fuse, I'd guess 40 RMS Watts per channel at most, but it does what I need. Only major complaint is that phone calls are really quiet for some reason. Map navigation seems to come out of my sub more than my door speakers, but it's audible. Also, there is a low-pass for the sub, but no high-pass for the doors, which is frustrating. I'm still pretty happy with it. I got Android Auto in my '94 truck, and it didn't cost that much.

I'm not sure about this one, but the non-name brand units are FULL Android operating systems - not nerfed by Alpine or whoever. This is significant because you can just use your phone (or even a separate sim card directly in the stereo in some cases) for a hot spot and connect your stereo DIRECTLY to the internet - like set it up once and then every time you get in the car it will automatically connect. Then you can DIRECTLY use ANY Android App on your stereo. You don't have Netflix on your stereo ? - just click the Google Play Store app on your stereo and download it. Then watch whatever movie you want - not restricted by being in gear or anything. This makes Android and Apple car play stuff completely useless. You just directly run whatever app or navigation you want on your stereo. No need to pull up KZbin or whatever to play music from your phone. Watch KZbin and play your music straight from the stereo. You can also use a wireless OBD2 connector and any number of Android automotive apps to directly monitor all kinds of engine parameters on your stereo just like custom gauges. You can also use this connection for diagnosing issues with your vehicle on your stereo like a scan tool - obviously this is dependent on which app you decide to use. For me, this makes the non-name brand Android based stereos MUCH more useful than the name brand ones.

Not a bad radio but the thing I hate about any head unit like these is that once you install them, you are limited on what amps you can install 😂. Too much bass and it will just vibrate like crap😢. So if you are looking for just some good sound and a nice head unit, it might be what you are looking for. As for myself I like my cars and trucks when the windows and windshield breath 😂. With that being said, my head unit needs to be more secure in place. I do enjoy my Alpine iLX- W650.

I have the older version of the Boss Elite 10" that I bought in 2020. Due to Covid there wasn't any options, everything was out of stock forever. The signal is clean but I'm not sure what's happening with the EQ. I couldn't figure why the mids sounded funny and felt like I couldn't fix it. I use a Kicker class AB and Infinity ref for the fronts. Anyway, used the house curve app and mic and changed the EQ to kinda insane settings. +1 at 125hz, +2 at 250hz, +5 at 500hz, +2 at 1khz, -1 at 2khz, and -2 at 8khz. Couldn't believe that setting, but then played the tracks that sounded off, it fixed it. I personally like VERY flat response like KEF R3 Meta, while this setup is not anywhere near that, it's finally good enough for in the car.

may i add somthing that got missed? when buying any aftermarket unit, look into the chip set. many are mediatek (which is good), some are rockchip and ALLWINNER which i would advise against, and finally, the rare gems are Qualcomm units. Qualcomm cpu's are usually much more money, but worth it (never seen a bad radio with Qualcomm). my personal car has a mediatek CPU, and in retrospect, i should have gotten a Qualcomm version. i dont care what anyone buys, but for the enthusiastic crowds who may exploit or hack these, get Qualcomm versions. all memory and storage are not created eaqual, and two identical radios will have wild price difference depending on the processing chip. its not mentioned which chip set is in this BOSS radio, but i suspect mediatek?
@mikethecarguy93876 күн бұрын
forgot to add, but so important- many users wont hack their radios, but for those who do. stay away from unknown CPU's and too-good-to-be-true storage specs. best examples: 128gb Qualcomm unit is thousands of times faster than an ALLWINNER cpu with 512gb. dont take my word, read the fourms and look up chipset dies to understand why.

I plan on using this on my test bench, if I start getting any problems I'll update everybody.

I bought the 8” version. It’s extremely glitchy. Will randomly change the channels or just cut the volume all together. I really wanted this thing to work, but I’m going to have to return it.

When a cheap brand gets a little expensive thats when there unsually decent products. Not all the time but most of the time. I remember when lanzar came out with the optidrive wasnt super cheap compared to there other stuff but was good.

I have a unit just like this(Sound Storm Laboratories SDML10ACP) and it has one issue I hate. If I don't turn down my phones Bluetooth before I get out of the truck...the next time I get in it will be at full volume. Killed 2 door speakers already.

Out of the box it seemed to perform just fine. No way to know how it's going to hold up long term.

Sure, just need you and a few hundred friends to head over to patreon.com/diyaudioguy and sign up. Then I can afford to test pretty much anything.

I have a 2011 f150 lariat with the Sony speakers and sub with mic sync 1 I wanna upgrade the unit to Android Auto but not lose my climate control and built in nav and also my steering wheel controls, would this unit do that ?

You will probably need something like this: howl.link/8w041baefdmn2 and a radio that is compatible with it, like this one: howl.link/hu196lcmlsp1o Not saying that is exactly what you need, but that is the type of think you are looking for.

@DIYAudioGuy I have an older version of this unit. Wondering if this unit would resolve my current issues. Radio sounds fine but android auto sound quality is pretty bad

Why so much hate for Boss? Cheap and decent. Use a quality set of amps and a DSP to make it awesome. Whine tits want you to spend thousands like they did just to sound good. Ha ha. I'll be installing ANOTHER Boss in about 2 weeks... And probably another in 6 months. And, they will sound just as good as my 7 inch Alpine with 800 inputs and 6 outs. And I guess a button for Tidal (whatever the f that is). (Yes I know, but I use Apple music on my droid or yucktube.)

Yeah, No. I've had two of these BOSS "Elite" floating head units and both took a shit on me within six months. On the first one, the screen wouldn't turn on unless I disconnected it from the main head unit and left it off for several hours. The second unit had problems charging my phone while I was using android auto. It would drain my phone completely within about an hour of driving when using maps. I bought it because of the price and the features and especially because it had physical turning volume knob but I am happy to be rid of them. I found a used NEX head unit and I would never go back to BOSS. You get what you pay for, its pure gambling.

Sorry you had a bad experience. The Alpine head unit in my wife's car cannot charge her phone, so that's not something that's just a problem with this head unit. Easy fix is just to charge the phone with the cigarette lighter outlet and connect with wireless Android auto. Unfortunately her Alpine doesn't have wireless Android auto.

I purchased this unit even with maestro adapters it did not work with my steering wheel controls or power on. Returned it it would power on I was able to control it no sound. 1st was an Amazon purchase 2nd was from Best Buy.unplugged the radios went back to bestbuy picked up a pioneer nex plugged it in redid the pairing on maestro’s site for that stereo no issues worked right away. Hard pass on Boss wasted time cost money.
