This drone got me into fpv. Now its 3 years later and 36 self built drones later 😅

Hahaha! You crazy, but I feel ya. I have probably 10 quads/projects within reach… this one is a welcome change actually. I like the plug & play nature of it. I just turn it on a fly around, pause, look around, and land back home. All my other quads are more exciting but also more stressful!

I've been flying with the DJI FPV for about 2 years now, and man, it's been quite the ride! I gotta give props to this drone for getting me hooked on the whole FPV scene. Now, don't get me wrong, it's a solid drone, but there are a few quirks I gotta mention: lots of software restrictions, kinda fragile, and the camera quality ain't all that compared to a GoPro. Plus, the battery life is a bit short, and let's not even start on the price tag - it's a bit steep... But hey, it's not all bad! This thing's a breeze to carry around, landing's a piece of cake, and that automatic hover feature? Genius! Plus, it's got reliable RTH, top-notch service, and that forum? It's a goldmine! So, long story short, totally worth taking this baby out for a spin. And seriously, I don't get why some folks love to hate on this drone. But hey, that's a whole other can of worms - let's just focus on the fun stuff, shall we? :)

Yea for me it’s like I’ve been driving old manual sport cars my whole life and now I have an automatic Mercedes saloon. Just hop in & cruise, not racing around aggressively, simply out for a drive to enjoy the scenery. Maybe stop & grab a coffee, toss the keys to your friends or family, no worries. My other drones are like motorcycles, high stress, dangerous & there’s very few people I’d hand the keys to. If you enjoy the drone for what it is it’s great, and the used market is awesome nowadays. For me is 100% enjoying things for what they are and having fun, so cheers to that!

Nice! Exactly the reason I was considering getting the avata for a while. So my friends and family could experience FPV just in the safe flight modes

Yea, pretty awesome. For years everyone has just watched me, now they get to fly and it’s been a huge hit! I also enjoy some of the more “hybrid camera drone” features, and of course the overall eco-system is well designed and nice to use.

Hey thanks for watching. Great little setup honestly, though disappointing new… i lost it yesterday in the mountains. Battery was at 30% then suddenly said “Low Battery Landing Now”… long story but I hiked around the is sketchy mountain searching for an hour but didn’t find it. Fortunately I have another!
@Phoenix.-9 ай бұрын
@@GiantAntCowboy Could you try to find out where it might have landed by analysing the last transmission?
@GiantAntCowboy9 ай бұрын
@@Phoenix.- oh man… it was honestly a “self-inflicted disaster”. When I got the message about landing I tried to cancel it by clicking the “Stop” button, but since I was flying in Manual mode it disarmed the quad and it tumbled then lost video… so the video stop while falling. Then I didn’t have a cable to hook up my phone to try the “find my quad feature”… I hiked up there but it was steep, slippery, and eventually started snowing. Ugh. Wish it didn’t auto land, but in hindsight I wish I didn’t touch any buttons. It probably would have been fine…

omg you need new foam for those goggles! Dont get the DJI branded stuff, a lot of the retailers in USA have their own but idk where they source it from... anyway, thats the stuff you want.

Yea man, 100% agreed. I’ve been looking into some options. I’m in Norway so everything becomes special order, but I’ll find a reasonable upgrade. (Any specific recommendations?) Thanks for checking out the video, good tip, cheers!

1600ft height limit why i went to autel. i mean i fly my fpv mostly but i have wanted to film certain things with camera drone but i got limited like 100ft short of top of hill

Yea, I did the DroneHacks mod. The height limit makes it hard to fly in my backyard… haha

While I fly RC planes, I was completely new to drones. This drone allowed me to do the first step in flying a GPS drone. Then I practiced on the software and learn to fly in manual mode. Now I like the ability to be able to switch, back-and-forth between manual and GPS modes. So while it’s not the very best at either, it may be the only drone that has both functions.
@GiantAntCowboy9 ай бұрын
Nice, I too started with RC Planes. In my opinion they are way harder to fly! Especially since once you take off you then have to land… haha! This is definitely a great drone to get the feel of FPV drones, but I will say the flight performance is pretty poor compared to my proper FPV quads. This disadvantage is offset by the many luxuries this drone offers, hovering, safety features, great RTH, excellent quality, signal performance and the ability for new folks to easily experience the magic of FPV flight!

Even though my DJI Potato now sits in its case most of the time, it will always have a special place in my heart for getting me into this wonderful hobby! I have since moved on to many self built quads, but every once in a while, I still pull it out for a nostalgic flight. It's a pretty shitty drone as far as FPV quads are concerned, but I'll never forget the magic of that first real FPV experience.
@GiantAntCowboy8 ай бұрын
Yea that’s like when I watch my old analog videos. The original magic of flying for the first time! Such a great hobby. I love the DJI FPV because i can give the controller to almost anyone (even my 3yr old!) and they can have an FPV experience! I recommend using it for that purpose, it’s awesome!

Yea, really nice to just plug in a phone and boom, live feed! I haven’t tried “Broadcast Mode” yet, but will give that a shot soon! HDZero/Analog are easy with another pair of goggles, but using an external device is trickier.
