What are your thoughts on the video quality from the DJI Osmo Pocket 3? 🤔
@adriansoworka928311 ай бұрын
The Pocket has a crazy quality for this size. However, I see it purely as a vlogging camera. Due to the 20mm lens there is little variation in the shots. I would only wish that you could also film vertically with the full sensor in 4K.
@DigiDriftZone11 ай бұрын
@@adriansoworka9283 You can get an L bracket for vertical :) - Also, you can set up guide lines on the screen to frame vertical content while filming landscape, there is enough resolution in the 4k to crop the image for vertical video as Instagram is limited to 1080p.

I don’t want to like the Osmo… but the more I see, the more I’m legitimately impressed…
@seanp2k6177 ай бұрын
It’s a legitimately fantastic little cam for recording family stuff and little hiking vlogs. It does actually fit comfortably inside the slim half-case in a normal-sized jeans front pocket too.
@DigiDriftZone11 ай бұрын
I looked more into this: - Osmo3 is 20mm f/5.4 equiv - iPhone 15Pro main camera is 24mm f/6.3 equiv (1.2x focal length, 1.17x aperture, so more or less same depth of field / light gathering as Osmo3) - ZV-E1 with 20mm f/2.8 gives you 4x the light gathering and shallow depth of field (and flexility to use even faster lenses) So compared to the iPhone 15Pro, the Osmo 3 gives you a wider image with physical stabilisation with more or less the same depth of field and low light performance. You can match this performance on the ZV-E1 by setting the 20mm lens to f/5.4.
@dougmorato10 ай бұрын
When you’re shooting videos, the iPhone main camera isn’t 24mm anymore. You can clearly see the difference in FoV changing modes - photo to video (especially combined with the EIS). So the difference between the iPhone and the pocket 3 isn’t that close actually.
@DigiDriftZone10 ай бұрын
@@dougmorato Actually, yes, you are very right, it's more like 28mm as it crops in for the stabilisation, which also means you are losing a bit of depth field considering the focal length change, it then becomes more like a 28mm f/7.

$519-$669 dollars vs basically $3000+++ with a lens + mic + gimble. ... that's what you're looking at here and pocket 3 can fit in the palm of your hand and in flashlight mode is relatively inconspicuous when you're filming around other people. that's what i like about it the most.

I normally Film with the FX6 and since two weeks I have the small ZVE1 too and I really love it 😍 I think it depends on what you want to produce 🎥 the OP3 is definitely a great small cam for holidays but I think both are different cams

Consider if you need quick setup time for gimbal video (complete with balancing the gimbal with your DLSR-sized camera), the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is the kind if tool I want to use. On many of my shoots, I have only a certain amount of time to get everything done for a client. It all depends on what you're using the camera for, but this looks like a wonderful setup for maximum efficiency and results that should do the job on most shoots. And for around $500? No brainer.
@ScottsReviews10 ай бұрын
I have both and I am thinking of selling by ZVE1. My set up would be a7rv, Pocket 3 and GP12. Put that 2000 into a new lens. Hmmmm
@DavidZhou10 ай бұрын
While I personally like having the ZV-E1 as my “smaller rig” and my a7S3 as my “big rig”, $2k for a new lens is pretty tempting
@dylannolan745411 ай бұрын
I didn’t 4:56 give this camera a chance because I thought the footage would look like crap but it looks great…. What a cool tool. For a journalist (what I do for a living) this seems like a great tool. I don’t have the ability to carry a stabilizer to most shoots, but this would allow me to get those kind of shots from a camera that takes less space in my bag than a lens. Might be time to integrate one of these into the workflow.

You can get the Sony ECM-W3S wireless mics that go on the Multi Interface digital shoe. Not quite as seamless or compact as the OP2 plus up to 2x DJI Mic 2s but still pretty slick.

Other than the fully auto mode, did you have your Viltrox wide open at f/2.8 the whole time? - I'm surprised by the depth of field of the Osmo Pocket 3, have you tried to match it against the Viltrox? - To my eye, it looks to roughly match 20mm f/5.6 or f/6.3 maybe?
@ChChCheckIt11 ай бұрын
I know for a fact he wasn’t shooting at f/2.8- he probably stopped the camera up to around f/5.6 to match the osmo! I have both of these cameras as well, and as amazing as the osmo is- it doesn’t fully stack up to the ZV-e1. For the price though, it’s truly amazing!
@DigiDriftZone11 ай бұрын
@@ChChCheckIt Makes sense! - on paper it should be f/5.6 to get similar depth of field so I was surprised to see in some shots the depth of field difference wasn't as pronounced as it should have been :)
@DavidZhou11 ай бұрын
For the most part (besides the lowlight test), I remembered to match the Osmo Pocket 3 at f/5.6 to get a better comparison!
@DigiDriftZone11 ай бұрын
@@DavidZhou Ah! - I guess then the main question is how often would you choose to film talking head and other type of content on your ZV-E1 at f/5.6? :) That's a bit of a double edged sword on the Osmo3 (and iPhone), sometimes you want f/13 for landscapes or to get nice sunstars or for macro (iPhone uses the f/10 equiv super wide for Macro for that reason). Sometimes you want to open up that aperture to get better object/subject separation and low light. But with Osmo you're stuck at f/5.6 forever (and f/6.3 on the iPhone), so you're not just limited on the focal length, but on the aperture too. This is actually why I personally went to the ZV-E1 from APS-C previously, the f/2.8 zooms on APS-C are huge and heavy and in terms of light gathering and shallow depth of field, the f/4 zooms on full frame beat them while being smaller, lighter and cheaper! What should be quite scary to APS-C manufacturers is you get a better image in literally every sense of the word (low light, dynamic range, noise, resolution, etc) using an iPhone 15Pro Raw vs a flagship Fuji X-H2 with their best 16-80mm zoom wide open at 16mm f/4 (24mm f/6 equiv), that's insane! - this probably applies to the Pocket3 too, though we're still waiting on the dynamic range tests.
@DavidZhou11 ай бұрын
@@DigiDriftZone I think you just helped sum up what I've been thinking about over the past few weeks while shooting with the Pocket 3! The fixed aperture, similar to the iPhone 15 Pro, along with the fixed focal length, is the biggest "weakness" of the Pocket 3. It doesn't make it a bad camera, just a camera that's great at a few specific shooting scenarios/types of shots. When compared to a versatile interchangeable lens camera, it just can't compete when used outside of it's intended use cases. Same argument goes for APS-C vs. Full-Frame, just to a much smaller degree.

okay 1 thing to notice on Osmo 3 is the quality is not that different from footage from my old iphone 13 pro max... and the only usage of it is to take walking talking head, you can't zoom at all (2x digital zoom is suck) so in real life scenario it's worse than 13 pro max with 3x optical zoom + 15x digital zoom. Sold the thing early so I just lose 10% of the price (rarely use) and get an old ZVE10 + 18-50 2.8 which is world different in video quality
@DavidZhou4 ай бұрын
It definitely has it's time and place, it's great for wide shots and "standard gimbal shots". It won't have the versatility of optical zoom so I treat it like an advanced point and shoot camera with solid dynamic range. Even though I've been shooting with it a lot more recently, it still won't replace my Sony cameras (except for in niche scenarios to get footage in places that don't allow "pro" cameras with detachable lenses, like concerts).
