Great presentation. Its nice to see watch a youtuber that is not bought out by each of the manufacturers to hide negatives on each product. I am a GoPro H7 Black user because its just that more flexible in all applications of use. The wider field of view hands down is a great. The osmo was a deal breaker due to its tighter field of view, delicate gimbal head and most of ........lack of swappable battery. Here in Australia, I wouldn't call the osmo cheap at $600. A camera that wont let you change batts for $600 is kind of concerning.

The motion lapse on the Osmo Pocket makes it a winner for me. Great for making footage more cinematic when hiking. A large camera is too heavy for backpacking.

6:00: As a matter of fact, you can change the aspect ratio of the screen on the Osmo Pocket. Also if you set it to quick follow, it rotates a lot faster. For the rest a very good comparisson. Very unbiased. Nice! I agree both camera's have their own purpose. For me the Osmo Pocket is the best choice as I want more cinematic video and I'm not a real action sports guy.

Great comparison. As for missing the action with the Osmo Pocket, why not use the Fast Follow setting? Also, if it has to go down to the flexibility of wide angle shooting, there are wide angle lenses available for the Osmo Pocket, maybe you can make a comparison video of those, too?

Thanks for the review. Was def looking at purchasing the osmo but after watching your review I’m not so sure now. Undecided to get the osmo or hero 7 for a while now. The biggest thing that was turning me away from the GoPro was the wide view. But your review showing the 2.7k footage that’s cropped in a bit for those times I just want to blog with it, overcomes that set back. I’m now reconsidering gopro

Thanks for your comment. I think they are both great cameras. And all cameras will have some limitations to them and you will need to learn how to use them to their best advantage. I think what you are shooting makes all the difference. As I said GoPro is a lot more durable and waterproof. Osmo has better audio and a larger camera-like video to it. With an accessory handle to get further away, the osmo is probably better as a stand-alone vlog camera. What kind of things do you want to shoot with it?

Hi Tyler, mainly want to capture reviews of my camping gear and some destinations I visit in my 4WD. Also take with me on holidays. But mostly it will be reviews and just talking with the camera on me as I’m walking around. I mostly don’t use a computer. I do all my editing on my iPhone 8+ and upload to KZbin via my phone. For this reason it’s important that I am able to have the footage captured transferred over to my phone. I believe Apple has an adaptor that I can purchase that will transfer of a mini sd card to your phone, but if I can get the camera to transfer over all the better. I read that this can be done with a phone connected to the osmo. That wireless adaptor you have, can it transfer footage over to phone?

For camping, outdoors, 4WDing. I would recommend the GoPro. It’s durable and it’s going to stand up against dirt and things much better. That being said, to answer your question. Both cameras have their own app. Dji has ‘DJI Mimo’ and GoPro has ‘quik’. Both are very easy to get footage from the camera to your phone. And both have editing in the app to edit your videos on your phone. I’ve only played with them a little so I can’t speak to which one has better functions for editing. I’m sure there are some reviews on KZbin of each app. But for outdoors/camping. I think the GoPro is going to be way more useful. I would be worried about osmo getting broken easily.

Tyler, is the battery exchangeable on the hero 7? Can you remove battery? Looks like the osmo the battery is not easily replaceable. Ali at 2.7k on the GoPro. Is that still in 16x9 format? I think these two questions will go a long way in helping me decide which to purchase.

Yes GoPro battery is replaceable but osmo is not. And GoPro you can choose either 4:3 or 16:9 for 2.7k. :)

@@TylerRostedt Oh yeah, my only complaint with Osmo Pocket was it field of view but turns out that there are some wide angle lens options already available in the market at dirt cheap prices and they can do a decent job. The only glitch is that you need to attach it every time you power on your device but I guess many people won't mind that. Ulanzi and Kase are two companies that I know are making these.;

Start with whatever you have. Your videos will be bad at first. The best feeling in the world is when each video is better than the last one. The only way you can learn and eventually make good videos is to just start. Its the most fun and an amazing way to document your life for your future generations to look back on. Just start brother. I literally didnt even send out anything to friends until my 10th video. Until I had something I was sort of proud of. Go out and make terrible videos and you will learn and get better with everyone. Making videos is the best. I can't encourage you enough to begin today! You got this brother!

Really good comparison, I´m looking again to buy either the Osmo or Gopro. I did have the Osmo before, but sold it to buy the Insta360( That was a no go, to much work/edit of you clips to get anything useful out for it) And as you also said. It is hard sometimes to frame you target. But the motion time lapse is really great feature. But i´m also starting to look at the olympus tg-5, Which would fit very good into the same category, of a small 2 camera to do timelapse. And make b roll. Its waterproff, 25mm, 4k and 4 times zoom.

imho, comparing an action camera to a gimbal is like, well, moot. A gimbal cam is a gimbal cam, built for slow and smooth and cinematic. An action cam is for, as the name impiles, action. Also, the GoPros wide angle and fix focus arent't for everyone and everything, I wouldn't want to shoot a whole vlog on it. It's like comparing a spors car to a Hummer - both great cars, neither built for the other's purpose.

For sure! Great points Michael! However because they are the same price, roughly same size, and being marketed similarly. I think a lot of small creators out there are wondering which one would be a helpful tool for them for a small/portable camera to get smooth gimbal-like shots. Don’t forget GoPro marketed hyper smooth as the “gimbal killer”. So I think it’s a pretty fair comparison. Hope you still enjoyed the video! 😊

Nobody on KZbin is really addressing the biggest problem the Osmo Pocket has and will create for future owners. You can't just replace the battery. How many owners are going to be stuck with Osmo Pockets that wont sustain charge anymore and of course DJI will negate any economical repairs, let alone even offer replacement batteries. This one and only reason why I never purchased th Osmo Pocket. Its great in quality, but a glued in battery is down right anti consumer nastiness at its dodgy best. I have very little faith in dji, its support and resolution processes.

Gopro has too much optical distortion ( wide angle), also all things u will see much more far, and the colours arent real. Osmo P has normal lens without distortion and a better stabilization. With Osmo you can do a blur background, with GOPRO its impossible.

Good points! I think GoPro can be very hard to get good shots out of sometimes. But if you can find the right aspect ratio, resolution and manual settings. As well as doing the right color corrections in post. You can get some outstanding footage. This is true of the osmo also I think. A lot of work but for such small cameras, it’s very impressive.

You have a valid point there S.A.R Konning. I’m undecided which camera to purchase out of the two for vlogging. Biggest turn off for me on the GoPro was the distorted footage, but Tyler shows that 2.7k overcomes this issue. Now I’ve read your comment on depth of field has steered me back towards the osmo. Also I don’t use a computer to edit, I like to use my iPhone 8+ to edit and upload to youtube. I don’t carry a computer with me.

@@TylerRostedt another point is the dynamic range, its the main fail with both, I would like to see a video comparing only dynamic range. but not same distance from camera to object, because the cams will measure different light, the right comparation is with same frames or scenes. For example if u are recording eiffel tower, so record it from basis to extreme point with both camera,, surely to get this scene. with Gopro will need to shot from a more near distance than OP. If u compare only to same distance, the two cameras will take different readings of that light, because they see different things, for example with OP will cut the top of the tower. I think the correct comparation is through same scenes,, identical scenes,, same sky area, same trees area, same objects areas.. I dont know if it is understandable.. thanks !!!!
