The Tiki Tak Tribe were the new antagonists in Donkey Kong Country Returns, but their legacy extends far beyond just one game. It's time to take a DKU Lore Tour of Retro Studio's musical miscreants! since it wasnt mentioned in this video i'd just like to drop a little fun fact; the main tikis actually have individual names! some mentioned in smash bros wii u descriptions, and others from datamining dkcr, their names are: Kalimba (people sometimes call it Krazy Kalimba) Maraca Gang (i guess i lied, the maracas dont have individual names, but are all grouped together via one name) Gong-Oh Banjo Bottom Wacky Pipes Xylobone and Cordian!

Honestly that bit at the beginning is why I don’t mind the Tiki Tak Tribe and the Snowmads as temporary replacements for K. Rool, after 64 K. Rool felt.. overplayed? It just feels like 64 was the climax of his character and anything afterwards would definitely make him feel like DK’s bowser which the Payeon Era despite remembering DK’s history, didn’t exactly do much with it. K. Rool just felt like he was there to have a villian. Obviously nowadays I think Ultimate made K. Rool feel like he should’ve been after DK64 and I really hope they keep this idea for when he appears agian, but I like the lore that the Tikis give to the entire series and the interesting potential of the snowmads as a neutral faction. DK’s world is way more flexible than Mario’s and I think that’s something that should be considered going forward for the series.

I love the tiki talk tribe all the designs are awesome but hands down the Accordion tiki has the best desigh of them all a shame his cutscene is so not focused on him

The cutscene was more focused on the twist that the tickets were being made from bananas at the factory.

I think this is definitely a fun headcanon, but I don't think the evidence toward the Tikis themselves being ancient Kongs is all too strong. The Tiki Tak Tribe certainly has some sort of connection to the Kongs of the past, but I don't see much reason to believe they _were_ kongs. All the K-Temple & Golden Temple imagery are solely based on Kongs. Why would the temple for worshipping Tiki Tong only focus on Kongs and bananas? Why would Tiki Tong come from a dimension based upon fruit? The Tribe doesn't seem to care about the bananas much-- other than using their power to make more tikis. When we get to Tiki Tong's stronghold in the Tiki Tong Tower has no Kong imagery whatsoever. It's all silhouettes of various savanna/jungle animals. As mentioned in the video, the screaming pillars aren't just on DK Island, but in the Bright Savannah. This leads me to believe that the Tiki Tak tribe might actually originate from the Bright Savannah. And that they eventually migrated to DK Island and tried to take over. The ancient Kongs defeated them and sealed them in the volcano. This may be a bit of a stretch, but the animal silhouettes in Tiki Tong Tower remind me a bit of the cave art created by the San people in Southern Africa. I vaguely remember a documentary I saw about the cave art in high school, which went a bit into their Trance Dance rituals. It's obviously not the same concept, but the Tiki Tak Tribe puts people under hypnotic trances using music and dancing. Bright Savannah makes a lot of sense to me as being their point of origin. With that being said, I still think the idea that they're Kongs is a cool headcanon. There's not really any major contradictions, I just don't think the evidence toward it is really there.
