The game is set in an alternate reality of the series. The game's story takes place in Limbo City, a modern-day city secretly controlled by all-powerful demons, manipulating humanity through the comforts of life, with the demons themselves residing in a parallel plane called 'Limbo'. Living on the fringes of the brainwashed society is Dante, a young man at odds with the demons who constantly hunt him, and the civilian authorities they control. Dante is warned by a young woman named Kat that he is in danger just as a Hunter demon drags him into Limbo. Dante navigates the Bellevue Pier's carnival and kills the demon with Kat's aid, who can see into Limbo with her psychic powers. Dante returns to the human world and accepts Kat's offer to meet with her boss, Vergil.
The definitive edition is like a light remaster. Definitely looks better but it is only one generation removed. As always we used important gameplay, relevant dialogue and all cutscenes to create a fluid cinematic experience. We hope you enjoy!

It was a potentially fun game with a vein of obnoxious cunty fun blockers ruining it every chance it got. Every time you encountered something and was like "hey these are pretty fun to fight" it was almost ALWAYS accompanied by something that is a fucking insufferable pain that made the whole thing an infuriating chore. The enemy designers had absolutely no idea what they were doing and likely weren't invested enough to care.

They didnt disrespect anyone. Yes, Ninja theory might have ansered quite rudely, but giving they were recieving a lot of hate and death threats, it had (for me) a pass. Actually Capcom was the one pulling the shots and controlling what Ninja Theory made, NT actually wanted to make the game more like the original, you can see that in the early concept arts. This game was an experiment for Capcom without having to get their hands dirty, because they didnt recieved the hate, NT did, and it almost ruined the company... It's kinda sad actually.

I completely overlooked this game because of its genre being completely out of my taste and all the hatred towards it. But the overall setting and tone is actually quite enjoyable. I wish it was a game that I could enjoy playing like a shooter, RPG or something. A better execution as well, they clearly aimed at edgy teenagers when teenagers wouldn't get the references while older players cringe.

Unpopular opinion: I feel like they could've made different installments of Devil May Cry, like Final Fantasy does, as each title is a different story with different characters, but using certain similar elements to tie them all together. Heck, if Capcom did this, they'd have their own Dissidia-like non-canon crossover of all the Devil May Cry titles! It'll be like the Spiderman-verse film, this time with all the different Dantes or other new heroes in their Devil May Cry timelines and universes! Damn...

Sorry to burst your bubble but the only similar things are: Realistic visuals, killcams, morphing environments and announcer callings. Hell, even realistic visuals were used only because they knew that'd catch people's attention, so it doesn't even count.

I find this DMC game a fresh new take on the franchise / The lead role Dante. It feels like a more realistic take on the character, he’s cocky, a woman’s man, an asshole and a goddamn badass at demon killing. I never played the original DMC games at first but when I saw this I was like “...I heard of this.....but didn’t know they’d make a realistic version of the franchise XD” in my opinion this is a solid 7.5/10 for me. Don’t judge/hate me for this. Just my opinion. P.S. I like the original Dante, but this realistic take on the character is just pure BAD-ASS.

This game kicks butt! The intro is bad ass! I beat this game with a strategy guide. I do not understand why they drag this game through the mud. So it's different from the mainline series. A change of direction is a good thing. Give this game a chance! It's the first Devil May Cry game I played. Kudos to Capcom and Team Ninja for making this AWESOME GAME!
