I loved this comic, but I think switching POVs from Matty's war journalism to Zee searching for her son turns the story into a more generic suspense drama. I'm not grumpy because they dumped a male antagonist in favor of a female one -- I wouldn't have minded one bit if Matty had been played by a woman, as it's not at all germane to the story -- but the tale of an abandoned war correspondent in a demilitarized NYC during an American civil war is only MORE relevant today than when the comic was published.

Hold up!!! DMZ is one of my top 3 independent comics along with the Boyz and Crossed. Other than sharing the name the story line is completely different. Sorry but this is NOT based on the comic book series. So don't go there HBO....

Yeah, DMZ wasn't an independent comic. It was a DC comic under the Vertigo imprint. The setting, concepts and backdrop is being used to tell a new story and not just do a live action retelling. Similar to HBO'S Watchmen series
