I believe that religion does separate people, but its not necessarily a bad thing, you can say the same about culture, it separates people but its a way of life as a whole. Culture is how we live physically while religion is how we live spiritually. Which is why i dont believe taking away religion as a whole would make the world a better place. Sure there are alot of extremists who would go to extreme measures like murdering and such for that religion, but there are also people who have made some good from it. Its kind of a gray area to me. Think about love, some people have done crazy things for love, but taking it away entirely isnt going to solve the problem.

@FallingGalaxy3 жыл бұрын
I will correct you about one thing. Belief isn't a choice. You either are convinced something is real or you aren't. Think about it. Can you choose to believe Big Foot is real? Can you choose to believe aliens abduct people and experiment on them? Can you choose to believe in Thor? Ra? Allah? It isn't a choice. It's usually because someone is indoctrinated (Groomed up/brainwashed to believe in something) from a young age when their mind is still vulnerable and they've yet to develop critical thinking skills of any kind, so by the time they do possibly develop any, their beliefs are solidified by their parents, communities, churches, people around them that it's now a core part of their being. Once it becomes a core belief, it is painful to even question it yourself ( backfire effect - it's a thing, look it up). If you don't have a solid epistemology you can fall victim to this as an adult as well. But you are correct in that it's wrong to try to force beliefs or lack of beliefs onto anyone. That just still leaves them open and vulnerable to propaganda and indoctrination. It's better to educate one another, to learn how to think more critically and question our own beliefs and biases and thinking so we can learn and grow together.

This was a good and thought-provoking video. I just wish people would change the conversation about religion to be about love. Because no matter how anyone tries to explain it, the questions I have about God, prayer, and the afterlife can't be answered, and I don't have the "faith" to just ignore that. But something I do have faith in is love. It's not something that you can tangibly explain or prove, but you just know it is there. It's like when people say that their loved ones are watching down on them. I can't accept that that is a real thing, as in an angel or ghost following you around. But what I can understand is the idea that the love you had for a person was so strong, that you still feel like you are carrying them with you.

Growing up I was always skeptical about god like how I was skeptical about Santa. But the reason I believe in god and not Santa is because of what I experienced. Seeing a black Santa for the first time and noticing my parents putting presents under the tree made everything very clear to me as I put two and two together but I still held onto this belief because of the happiness and fun that surrounded Christmas. Now that I’m older of course I no longer hold any belief in Santa but I still put on Santa and elf hats 🤷🏿♀️. But when it comes to god it’s a whole other story. I believe in god because of bizarre experience that cemented my belief. My sister and I were watching Spongebob on TV at my grandparents house. Our grandparents were asleep and my parents were in a hotel so it was just me and my sister awake late at night. We noticed a transparent black figure in what looked like a gown standing at the doorway and it came as fast as it went. Almost like it was just checking on us. I continued to pretend like I didn’t see anything but when my sister asked me if I saw it too I was scared. I couldn’t sleep that night at all. I asked my grandma if it was her who checked on us that night but she said no and that she was asleep. When I went over to the kitchen table I noticed a bible sitting wide open and I suddenly became nervous and I didn’t know why. I went to look at the Bible and the first words I saw were “fear not for god is always with you”. Then I felt calm, relieved and grateful all at once and figured I guess god is real lol.

As an atheist I found myself very strongly disagreeing with many of the things the people in this video said. At the core of these disagreements is that I would charactetize many of these atheists as religiously unaffiliated or agnostic rather than atheistic. An atheist is someone who says "there is no god" whereas an agnostic says "I don't know whether or not there is a God" and a religiously unaffiliated person doesn't participate in organized worship but may still believe in a god. Maybe I just need to get outside more.
@rdhaley964 жыл бұрын
Agnosticism and atheism are not mutually exclusive. Atheism pertains to belief, while agnosticism pertains to knowledge. If you're agnostic, you're uncertain about what you know, whereas someone who is gnostic claims certainty. So with that in mind, only a gnostic atheist would say "there is no god." An agnostic atheist would not profess to know either way (but would still disbelieve because of a lack of evidence).

@Ewarton Charlton It depends how you look at it. Some people would say atheism is the BELIEF that no gods exist. Others would say it's the LACK of belief that any gods exist. A very subtle difference between an active stance and a passive stance, based purely on perspective.
@TopNotchStoner4 жыл бұрын
@Ewarton Charlton There is disbelief and there is unbelief. Disbelief is defined as the mental rejection of something as true or real, or the inability or refusal to believe something as true or real. Unbelief, on the other hand, is defined as the lack of belief. It's not "belief in a non-belief". It's the belief that no gods exist. Again, it's a subtle difference, but the difference is there. I suppose actively believing that no gods exist would be more in-line with pure atheism, whereas the more passive lack of belief would be closer to agnostic atheism or pure agnosticism. I'm not saying one is more correct or appropriate than the other. I'm simply saying different people may look at it differently than you or I do, with their personal perspective dictating the way they define their beliefs, or lack thereof.
@TopNotchStoner4 жыл бұрын
@Ewarton Charlton I never said it was the same. Read it more carefully. Yes, some atheists simply lack the belief that any gods exist, which you obviously know. This is a passive stance and doesn't necessarily require any knowledge or insight into the world's religions. While they sometimes do possess a great deal of knowledge and insight in regards to religion, the absence of belief doesn't require that the individual have any actual understanding of religion. Conversely, some atheists believe very strongly that no gods exist. This belief may be based on logic, reason, personal experience, and/or any number of other factors. They hold firmly to this belief and are confident that they know the truth of the matter, based on their interpretation of the information available to them. This stance applies to many atheists, and there's definitely more to it than a simple lack of belief, whether you agree with me or not.
@TonyTigerTonyTiger4 жыл бұрын
@@TopNotchStoner But only one of those 2 applies to all atheists - not having a belief that gods exist. It includes all atheists, whereas the "God doesn't exist" description doesn't.
@TonyTigerTonyTiger4 жыл бұрын
@@TopNotchStoner It is often said that an atheist is someone who lacks a belief in God, but that wording - with lacks - suggests that atheism is missing something of value that it ought to have; that it is deficient in some way. An atheist is a person who does not have a belief that a God or gods exists. Atheism can be either weak (not believing a God exists) or strong (believing that God does not exist). The common denominator, present in both, is not having a belief that God exists, so that is what atheism is (what encompasses all atheists). Trying to say that atheists hold that God does not exist is like saying Christians hold the world to be only 6,000 years old: it uses the view of only one particular subset to define the view of the whole group.

I believe in God by a choice .. this world is so great and balanced, the human animals the way their body works it can't be by nothing or coincidence, it has to be some outer force that made this world so perfect .. so that's why I believe in God

That's so weird that this girl feels powerless over her friends opioid death. She had nothing to do with that. Using drugs is a CHOICE no matter what the circumstances that led to that. But maybe she has guilt over that.

@@yahwehismyeverything1867 Why did Jesus (as YHWH) say it was okay to own foreigners as slaves for their entire life, even being able to will them to your children as property until the day they die? Why did Jesus (as YHWH) say that if a man works on the wrong day of the week he is to be killed, but then later say (as Jesus) that the Sabbath was made for man and that picking and eating grain on the Sabbath was okay? If Jesus is YHWH, then who was Jesus praying to in the garden and other places and times? Was Jesus praying to himself, but saying one part of himself had a will different than his own will?

In Islam we believe that Allah(SWT) pushed apart of his soul into Adam's soul giving him life. All of our souls come from the creator. Our soul comes from a powerful entity and our souls will always return back to the creator. Allah means one and only God in Islam.

In our Star Wars universe, we believe that midichlorians are the source of the Force that pervades all of the universe. We Jedi are heroes who try to become one with the force and to use the force for good, but there are also the Sith, who are villainous and try to bend the Force to their will. May the force be with you.
