Dr. Ellie, I used to have a recurring gum infection for years with swelling, pain and pus. I tried antibiotics, colloidal silver, ginger, clove oil, the list goes on. Nothing was effective. Dr. Ellie, I went for a dental cleaning a couple of weeks ago after a whole year of avoiding visiting my dentist. After 6 months of daily and methodical use of your Complete Mouth Care System, my hygienist was very surprised to see how clean my teeth were and how much healthier my gums looked for the first time since I have been visiting the same dental office, perhaps a decade already. This time I wasn't in pain while she was working on my mouth. I guess some remineralization have been happening. At the end of the appointment, my hygienist asked me all the details of your protocol. She said: "starting tomorrow everyone in my house will be doing the same you are doing " 😊

For the previous 3 years, I was going to dentists regularly because of Medicare Advantage dental coverage. Before this time, I had very few cavities. However, over those 3 years, I had 4 different dentists tell me I had cavities and I needed deep cleanings. Since I started Dr. Ellie's system 1 year ago, I haven't had to visit a dentist, I've had no cavities, no cleanings, no flossing, and I no longer have tooth sensitivity. I wish I would have heard of Dr. Ellie's system 20 years ago. Thanks, Dr Ellie!

I admire Dr Ellie and her passion for dentistry and education. She is clearly sincere and believes wholeheartedly in her system. I've learned a lot from Dr Ellie's books, website, and these videos -- but my quibble remains, some people MUST floss. If food sticks between your teeth, either because your teeth are crowded or because they're damaged by fillings or crowns, you have to remove that food. Brushing alone will not do it. Nor will a series of mouth rinses. Another of Dr Ellie's videos suggests flossing while you still have toothpaste in your mouth, right before you rinse with the Listerine. This is the technique I use.

I had some horrible gum flare ups last year and the year prior to that. I have a phobia about the dentist so going was a big deal for me. I clean my teeth regularly etc and over the years never needed fillings. But the gum thing made me look into dental hygiene. I bought a water flosser and tried normal flossing but my gum problems persisted. I could feel that all it was doing - corsodyl and salt water gargle for flare ups plus flossing and electric toothbrush - was keeping flare ups under control, not healing. I found Dr Ellie’s content and decided to give it a go at the start of 2024. I can tell you it has worked. My gums are no longer tender and my teeth feel “normal” again. With the onset of gum issues, my teeth just didn’t fit like they did before and I had to think about chewing. That’s all gone after 7 months. My teeth feel normal, fit normal and I can chew without thinking about it. I know my gums are better. When I brush there’s zero sensitivity and zero bleeding. They look nice and healthy too. No swelling. I will see my dentist again in the autumn and hope to confirm this. All I can say is it worked for me. I chew xylitol gum (or suck xylitol mints) regularly during the day and follow her regime. It’s easy.

Later I looked up side effects of xylitol b/c I was having different stomach problems. It didn't appear to be the problem, but that's when I discovered it was actually good for your dental health. I knew my teeth were stronger and very clean, b/c even when it had been a few years since I'd been in for a cleaning, they never asked how long I had gone between cleanings like they did in my younger days. No more chastisings!🤣 I used to get plaque build-up especially on the backs of my bottom fronts-- they are very close together-- but no more! They are always beautifully clean!👍✌♥️

As usual, I love Dr Ellie's videos and advice. After following her instructions to the letter (because otherwise it's a waste of time & I hate wasting time), I had my first cleaning on Thursday fully expecting a glowing report. Sadly, I had a ton of plaque between my six bottom teeth, as usual, with my hygienist commenting that she didn't think I was flossing daily. She cleaned a ton of plaque and/or tartar off my teeth and noted additional gum recession. (BTW, those Dr Plotka's toothbrushes are very hard, in my humble opinion!) On the upside, I had no cavities and zero sensitivity, you usually have to pry me off the ceiling! So I will continue the protocol but will add in her advice in the hopes that in February for my next visit I have something better to report. I realize not everything works for every single person, but I believe this has helped my teeth, just not 100% like I had hoped. Keep up the good work and the good fight, Dr Ellie!

It's almost frightening how 'radical', in the true sense of going to the root source, Dr Ellie's fundamentals ease + demystify the entire world of oral health. Every time, I resonate with 'some little Thing'. Fillings. We had an excellent dentist when I was young, not Dr Ellie Fabulous, but Excellent & never Trendy. He wasn't a flossing fan, he didn't like gadgets. He discouraged sugar, carbonated drinks, juice, and eating between meals. AND, his fillings have lasted me since the 1960s. Dentists since repeatedly tried to get me to change fillings--sensible explanations about materials updated, etc, but the ones that the dentist my parents approved of, he did when I was in grade school, weren't bothering me in Grad school. Don't fix what's not broken. I'm sure there's mercury or cyanide or plutonium in there, but moving it---never mind. I've wondered if I'm being a knucklehead--its never stopped me before. Dr Ellie's passing reference to her having fillings of different eras & materials is yet another time to have such gratitude for her common sense & approachable ways. Yes, on her system x 4 months, what a difference. AND, because her style is SO affirming & encouraging? I've stuck with it. Having ONE thing in my life when the world seems upside down? I start the day with a planned thing I can accomplish and feel tucked in at night. Win-win. Dr Ellie is the Best.

Dr. Ellie..... When to flush with Listerine and when to flush with Xylitol?
@SunrayStar3 ай бұрын
Listerine is ONLY used as part of the 4-step at-the-sink protocol. Listerine is Step 3, and then ACT is Step 4. Listerine should never be used all by itself as it will leave the mouth in a very acidic condition. Xylitol is to be used right after every meal, snack or drink of liquid (even water), and then do not eat or drink anything else for at least 1-2 hours. You can also use xylitol 30 minutes after Step #4 ACT when you use the whole system in the morning and at night before bed. However, if you are getting ready to do the AM or PM at-the-sink protocol, that is one time you do NOT want to take xylitol right before. If you use xylitol soon before using the system, the xylitol may inactivate the Closys (Step 1).

Why would you listen to a dental student? If you substitute those products and eliminate the others, you will not be on the system anymore at all and will likely lose all your progress and worsen. Here is what Dr. Ellie wrote elsewhere regarding staining: "Teeth staining: “Good stains” are seen on teeth when dental disease has been rapidly controlled, when the remnants of thick plaque and harmful bacteria die off quickly. The debris collects around the tooth, often looking like a dark stain at the gum line. This stain is the sign of improved oral health, less bleeding, and a healthier mouth and gums. A dental cleaning will quickly remove this kind of staining and leave the healthier teeth pristine and white. "If you do not have a cleaning within a couple of months of starting the complete system, the sudden improvement in your oral health may result in a thin band of stain forming around the edges of your teeth at the gum line. This staining is not a problem, is not permanent, and is not at all unhealthy. This stain is dead plaque debris that has shriveled up and formed a hair-like deposit around the edge of your teeth. One cleaning at the dentist will remove this band of debris. “This staining is a common problem that I have to find a way to address: 1. Are you using the Mouthwatchers brushes that I recommend? You must get away from fear of brushing too hard. It's not true and you will not do damage by brushing - you will get rid of these stains! 2. Do you let your brushes dry for 24 hours between uses? Never soak them in anything or they will get too soft. 3. Are you brushing this area of your mouth where you are seeing the stains? Aim at these areas first, when you have the most toothpaste on your brush, and before you do the gum massage, etc - this is almost always superficial debris that just takes a bit more work to remove. 4. Are you using the system 2x daily? You will get staining if more plaque forms on teeth every 12 hours during the first months - before the oral bacteria have been balanced. In the future you may be able to skip a time or two - but not in the first months. 5. Do you stop eating and drinking completely - not even water - after the xylitol at the end of meals? This allows the new healthy protective biofilm to form, and it is this biofilm that will stop your teeth from accumulation of this debris. You may also want to have a Zellies mint last thing at night before sleeping. 6. This stain is not a health problem - just no one likes a dark stain. But it is superficial debris and will brush off; just use a bit more toothpaste and some more energy on these areas. 7. IF this extra energy and toothpaste trick is NOT ENOUGH to get rid of the stain - then you are going to make a special paste for yourself - Exfoliating paste: Mix together half a teaspoon of granular xylitol with a big squeeze of the Crest Cavity Protection toothpaste. Use this exfoliating toothpaste mixture - aim at the stains first thing every morning (not during the system.…but as you get out of bed in the morning). Just target these stains with this mixture of xylitol crystals + toothpaste. In 3-4 days the staining should have disappeared completely. Then you do not need to keep using this mixture; you can go back to the normal paste as a part of the system.”

Well, no, that's not exactly correct. She does say to stop using string floss or water flossers, but that is not all she says. You have to take their place with something else, not just simply stop all flossing and that's it. She recommends her Complete Mouth Care System (all items available over the counter at regular stores). One of the products in that system is a particular type of Listerine mouthwash, and it is used as "liquid flossing" for one of its purposes.

The blue 'cool mint' Listerine is essential oil based (menthol, thymol). Your good bacteria will be fine. Fluoride in her recommended products just replaces natural mineral loss from tooth surface - after use you are supposed to spit it out, so it will not enter any other part of your body it is not supposed to. She does not promote fluoride ingestion (which is problematic) or new forms of Listerine (which can have other ingredients).
@suzanneamato17123 ай бұрын
If you don't rinse your mouth, the fluoride WILL be ingested. It is a small amount, but so is the amount in tap water and we know that is dangerous. So how much is safe?@@barbarakastelic3406

I'm 43yrs old. During my teenage years and early 20s I consumed so much sugar via cola, chocolate etc. I would brush my teeth once a day in the morning and rinse with water. And I only really focused on brushing my front teeth. As a result I had 3 cavities. 2 lower molars and 1 upper molar. By age 22 I became more healthy conscious and started brushing and rinsing with mouthwash twice a day morning and night. I pretty much just use any old toothpaste and mouthwash, usually the cheapest brand or whatevers on offer. 21yrs later at age 43 my teeth are fine and I've had no further cavities. And I eat and drink what I want when I want it. I'm also a bit of a snacker as I'm naturally tall and thin and have to keep my weight up by eating 5 meals a day. Really I shouldn't have a teeth after all the sugar I had in my teenage years. I drank so many cans of coke and alcho-pops, chocolate and sweets. I did all the wrong things yet I still somehow have all my teeth at 43. I guess my teeth are tough via genetics. 🤔

My teeth are very close together, ma’am, and I hope that maybe you can guide me to use anything else but the traditional floss, maybe like a water pick or something. What’s your ideal on that? Overall, I have healthy teeth. My teeth are very white, but I noticed that when it comes to getting plaque off of my teeth in between my teeth, it’s hard, and I’m searching for the answers. I hope that maybe you can give me the answers to maybe some type of mouthwash or some type of better system to work with so that I don’t have to go back to the dentist and do the unnecessary. I feel going to the dentist is actually weakening my enamel and whatnot simply because when I was a kid, I didn’t go to the dentist a lot, but when I did, it was like every now and then, you know, and I found that I didn’t have cavities a lot as a child. Versus now, I’m an adult. Is the dentist really good, and are they making my teeth more vulnerable whenever they go in for what’s called a deep cleaning, scraping off certain things? I’m not saying I don’t brush my teeth every day; I do, but I find every time I go back to the dentist more and more, it seems that my teeth are not as what they should be or what they were when I was a child. Obviously, when you get older, your immune system degrades over time, meaning your mouth and the immune system degrade over time as well, but I kinda don’t believe that to a point, but kinda do. I hope maybe you can reply to my comment and maybe give me some type of strength. Hope to maybe try something else other than traditional dentistry visits.

Unfortunately, I have developed severe staining between the tops/bottoms of every tooth, near the gums and it is getting increasingly darker by the day. I follow your system as you have dictated using all of the products you recommend, toothbrushes included. I chew your gum 1-3 times daily and use your mints at night after following the system. Unfortunately only « Restauring » is available in France. Also in the comment section you said that Colgate Fluorigard was fine since it also has sodium fluoride and no alcohol. It's best not to brush additionally at midday. Brushing should be done only as part of the Complete Mouth Care System, not all by itself. And 3 times a day for the CMCS is really too many times per day except in rare cases. It would be best, instead of brushing at midday, that you just use xylitol after your meal, snack, or drink of liquid. Xylitol should be used at these times often throughout the day for many daily exposures (6-7 grams total per day, in small 1 gram doses throughout the day).

The very best thing you could do for your oral health would be to get on the Complete Mouth Care System (4 products you can buy over the counter at a lot of stores, plus xylitol throughout the day). Receding gums do fill in on Dr. Ellie's program. For xylitol, you need at least 6-7 grams total per day, taken in small 1 gram doses throughout the day. Take xylitol after every meal, snack or drink of liquid (even water), and then do not eat or drink anything else for at least 1-2 hours. Another great time for xylitol is right before bed, taken 30 minutes after the last Step (Step #4) of the system, which is the ACT mouthwash.

@@SunrayStar Thank you so much for your feedback. Yes deep cleanings are no joke. Don't matter how much they numb you it is still brutal. And I do not trust this dentist that I need it. Especially since the last two out of three times I showed up for my cleanings he said I didn't need it. Are we suppose to swallow the xylitol or just rinse with it? The reason I ask is because I use a CPAP machine and and for many years I have been using XyliMelts Stick-on-Melts while I sleep for dry mouth caused by CPAP, and recently started to wonder it is the Xylimelts is what is causing a recent GI issue. I had been on the "Low FODMAP" diet which restricts Xylitol. So that is why I ask if we need to swallow vs just rinse with it.. I am definitely interested in the Mouth Care System. Thanks again.

### Eliminate Plaque with These Simple Tips 00:16 - 🛡 The American Dental Association recommends brushing and flossing regularly, avoiding excessive sugar, and attending regular dental cleanings. 00:57 - 💡 Most older adults in the U.S. face significant dental issues, including expensive treatments and gum problems. 02:00 - 🤖 It's challenging to assess the long-term effects of different diets, but opting for whole, varied foods is advised. 03:50 - 🛡 Brushing and flossing alone may not be enough for optimal oral health; there are additional factors to consider. 04:27 - 🧩 Dental problems can stem from using inappropriate products or poor consumption and cleaning habits. 05:24 - 🌟 Good oral health is reflected in strong, smooth teeth and the absence of food residues after eating. 06:16 - 🧠 Gum regeneration and reversing dental disease are possible with proper techniques and new technologies. 07:53 - 🦠 Plaque, a film of bacteria, can be present throughout the mouth, and its removal requires more than just brushing and flossing. 09:21 - 💧 Xylitol, a sugar from birch trees, can be more effective than flossing in keeping teeth clean and controlling saliva bacteria. 11:09 - 💬 Early tooth loss may be linked to a higher risk of dementia; adopting good dental habits is crucial to prevent this. 12:26 - 💪 Consistently using a proper oral care system can reduce the need for dental cleanings and maintain dental health for longer. 13:13 - 👨👩👧👦 Implementing a good oral care system can lead to optimal dental health across generations, avoiding recurrent dental issues.

@drelliephillips, my husband and I have been doing the dental plan for about 3 months now. My husband is getting very dark brown stains between his teeth. We are following the plan 2x’s a day, using the correct products. Our gums are definitely so much better, but the brown stains are new. Any suggestions?

Dr. Ellie, i live in a place that i don't have access to amazon or any type of international store, i couldn't find any of your recommended mouthwashes rinse, there are some fake ones floating around but i guess fakes won't do me any favors, i can somehow get my hands on them but due to middle salesman's the cost would be 10 times higher, could you recommend alternative or specify what type of formulas i should aim for ? in case you're curious, i live in middle east, IRAN.

You may want to go to Dr. Ellie's site and join her boot camp. I've heard that you can have more access to Dr. Ellie or something like that. I personally haven't had a chance to check out the boot camp. However I've been using her mouthcare system for over 6 months and my gums and teeth are so much better. Good luck to you! Enjoying Dr. Ellie's channel from Yonkers, New York. 👍

Dr Ellie, I've been on your system for about 6 months. Haven't done any flossing, but I noticed a couple of days ago that my front gums started to bleed when I was getting a food particle out. Do I need to floss to toughen up my gums. I'm 68 years old, no cavities. Haven't seen a dentist in 6 years

I have started your program. I am a herbalist and find it hard to use all these chemicals in the products you have listed. No dentist in the past has ever helped me with my gum problem, sooo I will try your routine. I find using your list of products I really do not get hungry. Also I have investigated Erythritol and found it does not spike your blood sugar. I know both xylitol and erythritol is not really sugars but xylitol does spike like a suger but very little. Recent sudies say erythritol is suppose to be the better product for what you are teaching on teeth and gum health. Maybe you could comment on this. I am still going to buy your birch xylitol. Just wanted to know your thoughts on erythritol. Thank you for your knowledge and the willingness to share.

She has videos on xylitol and how it interacts with the saliva and the bad bacteria in the mouth, you may want to check it out

I read where Dr. Ellie addressed erythritol on her bootcamp. She said "I do not ever suggest consuming erythritol (it's the cheap "high fructose corn" substitute for xylitol) but erythritol can be an OK prophy paste for dental cleanings."
