Hey Anthony, I appreciate you digging into this topic more. If people care about noise then keeping it on makes sense. I'd rather hear the engine a little more so if something is a-miss I might detect it sooner. As for not removing the hood blanket, I don't know if I buy the protect paint from heat argument. Removing the engine cover should allow more heat to escape the engine. But if its then trapped by the hood blanket, it still won't be ideal. Getting rid of the blanket (especially if it's thick) should allow more air circulation throughout the engine bay which will reduce heat especially when its driving and making heat (each design will impact this effect of couse). I'm in Arizona and even if it isn't running, if you park in the sun the hood is taking in a hideous amount of heat, burn your hand hot. I don't see many hood paint issues except on old cars that (you can tell) weren't well cared for overall. Its an interesting discussion.
@AnthonyJ3503 жыл бұрын

I know you didn't recommend removing the hood liner, but let me reiterate to anyone thinking about doing so: DON'T. Most hood liners are flame retardant and are meant to be quickly pulled off to throw over the engine block in case of fire. They're essentially fire blankets. Like you said, they do well to dissipate heat from scoring your hood, and on vehicles with thin hood paint (Mopar/Mitsubishi, Hyundai/Kia, and Toyota) they'll go a long way toward saving the paint.
@AnthonyJ3502 жыл бұрын
But why don't all cars come with one?
@centralintelligenceagency900311 ай бұрын
And then you let your car bake in the Sun and your hood gets way hotter than it ever gets during operation. If your engine gets hot enough to burn your hood's paint, any plastic intakes, plugs, fuel rail clips etc... will be a puddle on your skidplate.

Haha do not take that cover off. I have a pretty new car, two years old I was hoping to let it run cooler by taking it off. So I removed it and about a week of driving it that the catalytic converter inefficiency light came on, the car is almost brand new and I changed the oil regularly. And the light would only come on after I go high speed on the freeway. I researched it and I have a GDI engine and also the cat is very close to the engine. So the engine must function at very high temps. So the cover was there to insulate and block direct air flow so the cat would work correctly haha
@AnthonyJ3504 жыл бұрын
Hate to see if that catalytic converter degrades and shoots material right into the cylinder head being so close mounted to the engine.
@joesmith2012124 жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyJ350 yeah its a small car and it depends on the city and state regulations some areas consider the manifold part of the cat. And are you familiar with Mazdas and their GDI engines in order to prevent carbon build up from lack of gas being sprayed onto their valves the engineers designed the engine to run at very high temperatures. The high temps helps prevent carbon build up. So yeah gotta keep the engine super toasty.

Hmm....my 05 3.0L accord has a cover that goes over the fuel rail but no cover over the intake manifold. THe 04 acura TL(similar motor with many interchangable parts) has a cover that goes over the intake manifold and covers a portion of the rail, but leaves the lower area slightly exposed. my 2012 honda cr-v has a small lower engine cover, while the 2013 acura ILX(again similar motor with interchangeable parts) has a larger lower engine cover that is more sleek and looks nicer. Also the ILX plug coil cover is slightly larger and "prettier" as well. They sell after market coil covers that are vented for the civic si and acura ilx, that fit the cr-v. My cr-v coil cover is warped and this is common. Vents reduce heat. THese covers are for looks only and are more fancy on the acuras(more money) than the hondas. The only thing you want to wrap or cover is your exhaust headers as hot air excavates the exhaust system more rapidly. A cooler engine is a happier engine. Plastic and rubber decays in heat, not dust and moisture. These covers are not sealed so they do not keep out dirt and any moisture in the air anyway.
