Not consistent with my experience. Years of problems, tried vegetarian - even worse - finally tried Keto and huge improvement and off medication I had been on for 40 years. Wife had similar experience. Basically happy now eating meat/green leafy vegetables. Lots of studies are paid for by people with vested interest and basically are used to paint the picture they want. Everyone is different, find what works for you.

YES I agree with you... I also mix QUALITY MEATS with some Non-Starchy Organic vegetables. I've heard Dr Furman's talks and read a couple of his books.. He's not a bad guy and he sincerely believes his view of nutrition. But I DON'T follow his complete advice. He tries NOT to sound overly Anti-Animal foods and like a vegetarian - but IMO - he is a Conventional MD and a "Closeted VEGAN". VEGANS are the people who will be most comfortable with his teachings & Preachings. I've spent YEARS researching this subject from many points of view and I can tell you this, In "Nutrition-Science" EVERYBODY can pick and choose whatever "RESEARCH" or "STUDIES" they want to "PROVE" whatever they want to believe. BELIEVE what Your BODY and lab work are telling you. -StayWell 😊 👍 -70SomethingGuy

To be fair, doctor Furman doesn't suggest vegetarian. He says that dairy and eggs are really quite harmful. So if you were still including those and your diet I wouldn't expect to see a huge improvement.

Let me guess, you ate vegetarian which means you also ate dairy, eggs and probably still consumed sugar, oil and flour. That’s not following the diet he promotes so you have no “experience” to report on other than the fact that eating a high meat diet hasn’t killed you, yet!

Dr. Fuhrman is right and I have proof, I am a nutritionist and iridiology from Israel and over the years I have studied many styles of nutrition But little by little the human eye taught me what works and is right for a person and what is not! For example: a patient who was on a natural diet( one a week she eat fish) after many years with this nutrition she decided to do a ketogenic diet. after 7 months, she arrived thinner and happier Only with new pains in the joints I took a photo to show the eye and compared to a photo before she ate so much animal protein And the result was very clear In radiology, there is a sign called arcus senilos, this is a white ring around the iris that appears when there is an issue with cholesterol, calcium and excess acidity. It accelerates the aging of a person At 7 months she was able to mark her with an impressive Arcos ring And this definitively brought me to the conclusion as a long-term health that a person who wants to live a healthy and long life should reduce animal protein Reduce simple carbohydrates ( all white) and increase the vegetables and fruits and legumes with the addition of almonds and seeds with as little oil dripping from a bottle as possible It gives me the best long term results in the eye Thank you Dr. Fuhrman bless you Hello from Israel I use Google translation🌹

Hospitals, doctors offices and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided not places that contribute to disease and obesity. It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care. Focus should be on food choices.

All I know is meat-based cleared up my digestive issues 95% overnight, and I'm not exaggerating. I'd tried everything else and that is the only thing that has worked. I did try Dr. Fuhrman for a while but it wasn't sustainable for me and I never lost my desire for other foods...just kind of white-knuckled it all the way through. I truly believe all natural food is good, including meat, fish, eggs...where the problem enters is what we add to it, hormones, antibiotics and all the chemicals and things. I eat the most organic that I can and will stay meat-based until my digestion improves enough to add back plants.

Carnivore and keto diets can be great therapeutic diets, no doubt about it. But don't confuse short-term/functional effects (like weight loss, digestive issues, etc.) with long-term/structural/pathological issues, like atherosclerosis and cancer. Use the carni/keto thing for the functional therapeutic effect but then experiment and introduce veg-source stuff over time, transition to a better long-term diet as you are able, to optimize health wrt the killer pathologies. Also note that lots (and perhaps most) of the therapeutic effect of carni/keto is from drastic carb reduction and the benefits of ketosis itself, i.e. those things instead of some magical beneficial quality of animal source foods. Cutting out crappy carbs will improve anyone's health; no need to go carnivore. You can easily cut carbs and go keto on a vegetarian basis with nuts and seeds, veg oils, MCT oil, coconut oil, etc., and tons of low-carb veggies. No need to pig out on problematic meat and eggs and butter. And don't try to put everything down to diet quality. Fasting (intermittent, alt-day, OMAD, whatever) is also important for most people. Orthomolecular supplementation (ascorbic, niacin, magnesium, and a bunch of others) is also important. Exercise, some cardio and some resistance, is also important. Quality of diet is important but the other health dimensions need to be optimized as well.
@alan2102X
@alan2102X 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, and one more thing: I know what you are talking about as regards digestive issues. Many years ago, in the 80s, when I was reading Lutz' book on the low-carb diet (German title was "Life Without Bread"; I cannot remember English title; author: Wolfgang Lutz), I noticed that he had chapters on all the different conditions and health issues like cardiovascular, weight, diabetes, etc., but by far the longest chapter was on DIGESTIVE ISSUES, because he found the low-carb diet to clear up just about every digestive issue, and he had a lot to say about that. That suggests that carb restriction *per se* (regardless if carnivore, or Atkins, or vegan low-carb) is the relevant thing in most digestive problems -- again, not some special therapeutic property of meat or any other given food. Just cut the darn carbs! Hard but result-producing.

Just a crazy idea here but I can't resist: my guess is that if you went hard vegan keto your digestive issues would be absent just like with carnivore. Try 4 ounces of corn oil and 2 ounces of flax oil daily (total 1500 calories), on top of steamed and raw low-carb veggies (greens, zucchini, cabbage, etc.), plus nuts and seeds, tofu, etc. IOW, 90% of calories from fat and under 40 grams carbs. You could use some MCT oil instead of the corn oil if you like; it is highly ketogenic.

@@alan2102X I've always liked meat and vegetables and just about all of the veggies. I did eat my junk too but I guess as I aged it caught up with me. I'm realizing now that if you screw up your body with too much junk, even healthy things like veggies, will start to make you sick! I believe that is what happened to me. Now I just have to get my system back and then I can add veggies back in. I wouldn't go completely vegan because I really like variety and can't imagine just eating plant-based. I didn't think I could do carnivore at first for the same reason (I like variety) but I kept reading the testimonials about how it had improved gut issues worse than mine and I just became so desperate that I had to try. The change was immediate and I found that I actually enjoyed the meat-based eating and didn't really miss fruits and veggies. I do plan to go back to having plants eventually though because I do believe they are healthy.

The adjusted HR for all-cause mortality in vegans was 0.85 (95% CI, 0.73-1.01); in lacto-ovo-vegetarians, 0.91 (95% CI, 0.82-1.00); in pesco-vegetarians, 0.81 (95% CI, 0.69-0.94); and in semi-vegetarians, 0.92 (95% CI, 0.75-1.13) So pesco vegetarians had the lowest all cause mortality, by a little over vegans.

Those population studies results are controlled (compensated) for major factors like smoking. So the stuff is mostly correct. Just when you are not overweight/insulin resistent, but active / into sports you can/need/should still have faster carbs. And if you are stable on your feet you dont need a rollator for reducing bone fractures... You could go nuts on safety here too, but then you are half dead immediately - bad deal...

I was thinking about that as well. When you put a restriction on someone's diet(no butter etc..) they're less likely to eat out at restaurants or fast food because they don't know what's on their plate. They'd rather deal with what they can control which is home cooked meals which inherently keeps people concientous of what goes in their body.

@@EricaMorgan > but optimal health would be zero meat. I believe you are wrong about that. The biggest mistake humans make is believing in linearity. Linearity is a simplifying assumption and is almost never true excet under limited circumstances. The other thing is that believing diet is the prime or only determinate of lifespan. My father has drunk alcohol every day that I have known him, and eaten meat, and he is in great shape and will be 95 this year. The vegan or vegetarian diet is a generalizing assumption that works in many cases because of bad diets that people eat, and the disgusting mess that is our food system - in my opinion. That said I eat limited amounts of animal products and as much plant matter as I can because it makes me feel better and seems to work for me. For instance consuming egg whites or certain fish does not have same negative effect as red meat consumption. Also judging health outcome by just mortality alone is not indicative of overall quality of life. For instance if deficiency of dietary cholesterol leads to early onset of dementia then Leno one wants to increase lifespans while being disabled. So comparing diet effect on mortality without accounting for such disability and general mobility does not make sense. So are there studies that takes mental and mobility health into consideration? Also are there studies in which egg whites or fish being replaced by vegetables in equal amount of calories?

It is an absurdity and a crime against nature that krill are being hoovered out of the remote Southern Oceans-by massive industrial vessels that have traveled halfway around the world to get there-just so that the linchpin species, on which the health of the entire ecosystem depends, can be sucked from the gaping mouths of hungry whales and penguins in order to turn farmed salmon pink, said Alistair Allan, Antarctic Campaigner with The Bob Brown Foundation. Eating fish is taking food out of the gaping mouths of bears, seals & many other animals that are even murdered because humans think they can take away their foods. “We are seeing sharp declines in humpback whale pregnancies, a decrease in the body mass of fur seals and a plummeting of chinstrap penguin populations. All three species depend on krill as a primary food source. All while climate change has reduced both the amount and duration of the sea ice that krill need to survive,” said Hammarstedt.

I had a big bloated belly and poor night time driving vision. My fingernails were weak and I got sick every time I traveled on an airplane when I was vegan. Went full carnivore since January 2022 and all those issues have disappeared. People comment my skin is glowing, I don’t get sick after I travel on an airplane, no more constipation or hemorrhoids or fingers locking up. I will never go back to vegan. It ruined my health. I eat grass fed beef and wild caught salmon mostly. I avoid all vegetables and fruits and I’m thriving. Also, I have a flat stomach and no love handles and lost 45 lbs on carnivore diet.

Most don't have symptoms that severe but what you're describing isn't that uncommon for vegans/vegetarians. I grew up in a vegan household so I'm familiar with the health problems the diet causes. I've even known quite a few vegans who would lie about their health and tell other people that they were doing well but behind closed doors they were really suffering. I'm glad carnivore has worked so well for you. I too am on a carnivore diet and can't see myself ever going back. Even though I didn't have any major health problems while vegan, there's really no comparison between the two diets. Carnivore is 100 times better in every way.

kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXTbqYGkYtSLfrc You can see from here where he is kind of debating Bredesen's approach. I suppose that it could be favourable short-term but not so much in the long-term. Bredesen says that it could be useful to put people who are already "too far gone" on keto and then you can perhaps consider switching them towards the plant based side. Idk if they both agreed on that though. Bredesen starts explaining his approach at around 20:00 i think (didn't really check now) and dr.fuhrman comments on it at about 40:00

@@andreasorfanou5970 You can do a vegetarian/vegan keto. Coconut-derived MCTs are highly ketogenic; nut and seed and other veg oils are more ketogenic that sat fats from animal food. The key is to cut carbs to the bone.

Problem is some meat is very bad and some other meat is very good for health. But doc doesnt even adress this most important topic!! Bacon is bad, hot dog meat is bad, fried meat is bad but oven cooked chicken wont ever increase your risk of death or cardiac problems. Those studies never look into this! Since it is a new thing that some people now know what meat is good and can choose to eat only not processed meat. Comon doc

Since I went vegan 2 years ago, I have studied and listened to Dr. Fuhrman, Dr. Esselstyn and Dr. Greger. I have also gotten an opinion from a PhD MD University Researcher who thinks people eating 5% calories from say, sardines, live longer than people who are 100% vegan. While it seems all agree on beans, lentils, chickpeas, berries and some WHOLE grains like oats, I still find much controversy. With the caveat of those not overweight, not pre or full diabetic and bereft of food allergies, I wonder for these people about: bananas, avocados, cod liver oil bereft of excess vitamin A, oatmeal or barley or sorghum or some mix with 1 tbs honey or maple syrup in a bowl as a sweetener. I wonder as well about tofu. I wonder about how much and how often B-12. I suppose there is no controversy with Dr. Fuhrman regarding multi-vitamins since he sells them! Same thing for smoothies since he sells protein powder with a plant based sweetener! I wonder is it better to drink mostly tea and some water or mostly water and a little tea. I decided to stay out of the coffee brewhaha by not drinking it at all. I wonder about the occasional glass of red wine? Or beer? I wonder if once a week it is significantly harmful to dine out in a relaxing restaurant by eating a Japanese ginger-carrot dressing salad and teriyaki tofu, a bit of sprouts and a bit of broccoli? At some point it would seem religious strictness to some prescribed diet meaning never eating out and impaired socializing would be stressful and thus harmful in and of itself. I was told by one MD devotee of Dr. Fuhrman that eating out, regardless of where, was "crap". Are most of us that vulnerable? I wonder.

Animal protein is harmful. Beans and nuts are nutritious. He discourages rice and potatoes because, as he said, of the high Glycemic Index. It’s not such a problem for people who aren’t diabetic or pre-diabetic. There’s small amounts of protein in plant food.
