What causes obesity is a combination of things. It could be salt and oil. Or salt, oil, and sugar altogether. And the Standard American Diet, where 54% is processed food and 32% is animal product, is not helping. No surprise there. Because it's true what they say, "What's in your house, is in your mouth."
So imagine how healthy you can be if what's in your house are fresh fruits, legumes, nuts and seeds, and intact whole grains. In a whole food plant-based diet, you eliminate the weight gain-promoting substances and get the most micronutrients per calorie.
Here's Dr. Joel Fuhrman for more about the Nutritarian Diet and how it promotes healthy weight loss and longevity at the same time.

Thank you for explaining this simply. I have a sister whose cancer started in her fat and began to spread all while in her late 30s. Luckily they were able to remove it through surgery and chemo. Unfortunately it is one that can return at anytime. I have sent her this video hoping this will spark something in her. I don’t want the feeling I’m going to lose my sister again. Hospitals, doctors offices and schools should be places where good nutrition is taught and provided not places that contribute to disease and obesity. It is crazy the hospitals are feeding people the very food that caused the heart disease, high blood pressure or cancer that they are treating. Every person in the hospital should receive some nutrition education before being released. Every doctor visit should be an opportunity to educate patients about how food choices impacts their health outcomes. The fact that doctors do not get nutrition training as part of their training makes no sense. Medicare and Medicaid should require nutrition education as part of patient care. Focus should be on food choices.

When you get to a point where you're maintaining a slim body weight then you can calculate the calories you are eating of whole foods. Remember the same calories from processed foods will have a different effect on the body.

On a nutritatian diet you don’t count calories. You eat until comfortably full. Your body will tell you. If you’re stuffed and uncomfortable, you’ve obviously overeaten and most likely getting too many calories. When eating nutritarian, it’s hard to overeat and gain weight. I’ve been doing this for 10 years now. Not perfectly but that’s the beauty of it, if you do it 80-90 percent of the time, you can maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle.

Sure seems like Health Insurance Companies and Medicare would be receptive to a WFPB vegan message. It would save them money on health care costs. This could off set the lobbying by food manufacturers. Maybe educating health Insurance Companies and Medicare administrators should be a priority. Health Insurance companies might even push doctors to take nutrition more seriously by paying for nutrition counseling of patients.

Looking back at this, I wonder... What about (any) mention of carbohydrates including sugar and their influence on insulin resistance? I do admit that unsaturated fats are good if their source is from seeds, but oils won from them have a tendency to turn rancid, which I understand can contribute to blood vessel complications like plaque. And except fibre, which carbohydrates can contribute to raise glucose and fructose? Even starchy foods? So glucose enters your blood stream, then Insulin comes along and transfers excessive BG into fat and stores this kind of fat in your body. Fructose is even more direct stored in your liver, and who knows what happens with lactose from diary products... It also came to my attention that rice in many instances contains minute concentrations of arsenic, so I'm not sure if any large consumtion of it is advisible. Albeit, low carb obviously is a key factor in keeping down insulin spikes. About chicken and other meats: from a different source, I understand liver contains a vital supply of vitami K2 amongst other vitamins, so eaten sparsly, it could be benificial. So what is your opinion about mushrooms? i think I recall something you said when they came up as a subject... I also happened to learn some nutrition factors from India, but let them be the ones to introduce them to you. In any case, though, I will point out and agree that the majority of the way of western society and those who follow their example are not on a good path.

Do you like fruits and vegetables? Perhaps you can start by adding more to your diet each day and not giving up your animal protein but make it not be the center of your meals. Also, getting rid of processed foods and just sticking to whole foods. Replace liquids with water. Start small and build on that. It's never too late.

Health care costs are out of control. Going vegan can save money, pain and suffering from disease. Lower your chance of high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer by going vegan. I’d like to know if Dr Fuhrman knows if what dr Brooke Goldner teaches is accurate about omega 3s. She swears the omega 3 will not turn into fat or cause weight gain no matter how many hundreds of calories you have of them (ex flaxseed oil) a day. She swears by this. I Havnt tried it yet bc that would really suck if she’s wrong .
@JAspen-xe9nv
@JAspen-xe9nv Жыл бұрын
Stop counting calories. That whole genre was a lie from day one. It's carbs that you should do away with. Omega'3 should be 1 to 1 with Omega 6's- balanced. If the food you are eating does not have this ratio, then you are eating inflammation, heart attack, strokes and so many other diseases in a bottle. And do not get it from flax. Flax oil go rancid almost immediately when produced. Get it from wild caught Salmon, Anchovies, Mackerel, bacon fat, Lard, Beef and pork tallow and grass finished butter. You'll live longer, healthier, happier lives. And stop eating plants.

It’s working for you probably because you are using oil in moderation. I’ve noticed I can use small amounts but I do notice it literally goes from your lips to your hips as he says in his book. In my case, belly. You can adjust this way of eating to what works for you in my opinion. For instance I usually eat more fruit than he recommends. It’s just what works for me.

1:30 minutes after the video started, I saw that this man is so outdated about animal stuff. Calling inflammation an animal origin food the culprit. So Ancil keys biased... Of course, if all animal stuff you eat is full of omega 6, you'll provoke more inflammation. But how much omega 6 can you find in soy, corn, wheat, canola oil, soy oil, margarine, etc.? He is baffled. He found that if you get fewer calories, your body slows down the metabolism. Ok, that's right. But if you provoke this slowing down you can destroy your metabolism. And that's the MAIN side effect after all those so-called "diets" that promise to make you lean, based o calories. BUT, he is absolutely RIGHT about the body adaptation and that there is a SWEET SPOT for your own body and daily calorie intake. The sad part is that he thinks that all we need to survive is "fiber, micronutrients and vitamins", believing that if you eat animals you can't absorb that, too...
