This band gets everyone. Very very underrated. This is melodic death metal and probably one of the best to this genre.

Be'lakor have incredible lyrics and storytelling in their songs. Genre-wise I would place them somewhere in melodic death metal and prog metal. My favorite album from them is Stone's reach. The entire album is about mortality and legacy, it hits like a brick. If you want to check out one song, I would recommend Countless skies. There's a band with that name as well, so be sure to include Be'lakor in the search : )

Hey Jango! Thank you so much for doing this video, I'm really glad you liked the song 🙂 In my opinion the thing in the lake is a metaphor for the things we think we need to achieve to reach happiness, like getting rich, beatiful, powerful, or the like (the old "get rich or die trying" mentality), which is also reflected by the lines "If only you could reach me / The others would admire / If only you could grasp me / The struggle would expire". Things that most of us won't be able to fully accomplish and the harder we try and just focus to get there we achieve nothing but being hurt, frustrated and burnt out and have our lives and happiness float around and away from us. And the moment one realizes this mistake and tries to warn others to not do the same and just live their lives it falls on deaf ears. At least that's my take of those lyrics. As you liked this I'm pretty sure you'd also like other material of Be'Lakor, pretty much all of their stuff is this level of chill and has a ton of interesting stories to tell.

Nah, it's literally about a guy falling to his drowning death in a freak mirage/time loop accident on the same mountain as the others on the album, and who he tries to warn is himself. Yeah, you could try to fit some metaphors in and they could extend the meanings in each of the stories very well, but the whole album's theme is basically very clear and concise. It's the mountain and those who find their end there in different circumstances.

@@dant2358 yes, and every song on that album has a story and a meta-story/message

it could also be that when he ascents he is under ice and see his reflection in the ice from underneath the surface. the images of the light from the surface seen from below also gives this image, in thee beginning of the song. the most terrifying trap involving lakes imo.

You should definitely check out more of their work. They've been incredibly consistent and if you liked this song that much then you're definitely going to find other tracks you like just as much.

Love to see someone discover Be'lakor for the first time. This is a great song and one of the most interesting things about it is the fact this is, as you said, a short story contained within an album (Coherence) that only has 5 songs with lyrics - all of them also short stories that are linked together. Each one tells of a person that died on "the mountain" and how it happened; the closing track "Much More Was Lost" tells a story of children still in their innocence on the mountain and discovering the remains of each of the people mentioned in the prior tracks. Upon discovering each one they lose more and more of their childlike-innocence and by the end are changed by the psychological impact of seeing each. Absolutely fucking genius with the lyrical writing and bringing it all together at the end of the album. Definitely check out the rest of the album if you enjoyed this song for the full experience and story. Their other discography is also absolutely brilliant with the storytelling through lyrics and the incredible riffs. Their music is layered in complexity that makes it so fulfilling to hear. Also there is a different definition to valence in terms of human psychology which may be more akin to the story being told in this track. "Valence, also known as hedonic tone, is a characteristic of emotions that determines their emotional affect (intrinsic appeal or repulsion). Positive valence corresponds to the 'goodness' or attractiveness of an object, event, or situation, making it appealing or desirable." I'd be very interested to watch more of your reactions to Be'lakor's music.

Thanks for breaking this down. I love this album but never connected the dots about the songs all being about people dying on a mountain. Really love the song Hidden Window. Be cool to see him react to that.

It's the mostly chill, beautifully melodic but still death metal that makes Be'lakor quite unique and my favourite.. they have a really strong catalogue of songs, no boogers in there but everyone finds their own favourites =)

Hey, I'm new here but maybe you'd also enjoy Insomnium. I mean you can't go wrong with more Be'lakor either as both bands ooze talented musicianship.

And thats Be'lakor! These guys, since their second album, can only produce the best, im not going to recommend anything from the album "Vessels" because its a full story and they have a lyric video of every song there, hope that someday you are going to react to that, but one song that is going to facinate you is "Countless Skies", that most people consider their "Magnum Opus", its from the album that won the "best melodeath" in 2009.

Be’lakor is so so so good, their last 4 albums are just perfect. The cream of the crop of melodeath these days. Highly from this same Album the song locus which is imo the best on the record and I also recommend their song countless skies, was kinda the first song that started getting them a good amount of attention and is just amazing. I wouldn’t even put valence in the top tier of be’lakor songs even tho it’s fantastic
