I'm fixing a flat on my 13-year-old 'little red' garden tractor right now. I've ordered an inner tube and have been working on getting the old tube out of there. Tubeless, but it is the same rear tire that flattened years ago and I took it to a shop in the next town to fix. I know from the lower cost they charged me that they put in a cheap tube that leaked at the base of the valve a few years later. Broke the bead by standing on the rim and moving a foot, and then both, off the rim to the edge and bounced. Tomorrow I'll soap it up and work on getting the rim loose. It was a pleasure seeing someone finally looking after their equipment and tools. I've watched too many of these videos where equipment and tools were so rusty it was painful to watch. I'm in my 70s, on my own, and inherited my Dad's workshop and tools, so will do it myself this time; it will just take me longer. Have repaired my own appliances for years because of my remote location and figured out the experts were just guessing their way through the repairs. I found I can do that too. Thanks for the help.

The smaller tires are a bear. I have 15" rims on my LX277 and had a heck of a time putting on new front tires. I finally did it, but it wasn't easy. I also installed tubes in them because I'm tired of Chinese tires leaking (and dry rotting for that matter). And I learned something, too. I knew that there was a town in Pa., named Carlisle. I didn't realize it was now located in China. Thanks for the video!

Very good video. For old tractors (or northern vehicles in general) I use a sealant on the tire face where it contacts the rim. Remove rust and paint that surface if it is rusty. Hi tack works good to seal the tire,but there are products just for that.

Good video. It takes some tenacity but the job gets done. You installed directional tires and got them right as far as I could see but it is worth mentioning to be sure you are putting them on the right way before you go through the wrestling match. I prefer to wear gloves doing this job but I have thin skin on my hands at my age.
@boudreau1106 жыл бұрын
Good job over all ... special note however ... all four of your tires have "directional" tread and must be installed on the rim correctly for the position each tire will occupy...the best way to insure a proper install is to mark each tire with a chaulk arrow in advance indicating rotation direction and location on the vehicle...cheers and nice machine...JOHN DEERE RULES!!!

Great video, I have my new rear tires and wanted to see how difficult this could be. My question is, once you get the new tire on the rim, how do you get the bead sealed enough to fill the tire with air? I can figure out how to seat it so it will fill...
@josephhenson88435 жыл бұрын
Air it up till it pops twice
@orgasmictomato5 жыл бұрын
best way is to use a ratchet strap around the tread of the wheel and that will pop out the beads to allow sealing for the air to fill, done this thousands of times on my zero turn husqvarna jockey wheels. - They love to come off. Has to do with no replacement wheels in Australia of the size 4.10/3.50 - 5 as my machine was assembled in USA, so they say. and it cost twice as much as the parts cost to ship them here.... so we live with a slow leak......

Great video, but you didn't show how you first got the bead to seal against the rim ...that is the one hardest part...I have seen guys use brake cleaner and then light it, but that somehow seems a bid dangerous. I have had success with a tie down strap around the center of the tire, and then tighten it until the tire bead flares enough inside the rim to finally get a seal, but that is pretty cumbersome...any other ideas would be very welcome.
