Just changed my inner tube on my tiller. Took 15 minutes and no fowl language. What I would advise is use three 6 inch c clamps to help hold the tire from popping back up. As you pry the tire bead onto the rim keep adding c clamps to squeeze the tire to hold it in place as you move your screw driver around. Lubricate the tire bead with any kind of oil. This helps the tire bead to slide down your screw driver. Went faster and smoother than expected. Hope this helps fellow DIY.

@@muffs55mercury61 I guess I'm just lucky to live in Idaho. Our tire shops go out of the way to help customers. Maybe it's because I live in a rural area where the tendency is to always help out others whenever you can. Besides, it's great marketing tool for them since the next time I need to buy tires for one of my vehicles, they will be the first place I consider.

@@rvalens2 Yes rural areas are like that. I live in one. There is a small shop that would likely do it for me but I'd feel a little out of place if I were to ask him to mount tires that I didn't buy from him. He is a used tire seller and doesn't get wholesale discounts from tire makers so he doesn't deal in new tires.

Nicely done. You might mention the need to inspect the tire as it may have a nail/thorn/foreign object that punctured it still stuck in it that needs to be removed before replacing/repairing the inner tube. Careful not to jab or tear your skin as you feel for the foreign object. I speak from painful experience on this subject. Cheers all.

I went through all this, inflated the tire and felt good, drinking beer. Next thing I noticed the tire went flat. Took it all apart again and found that on the inside of the tire a wire punctured my new inner tube. Wires is what runs through tires to make them stronger. Had to get a net tire anyway... If you are doing this carefully run your hands on the inside of the tire, looking for something sharp.

Another tip is with the tubes I got the valve stem on the tube leans a little in the direction it needs to go into the hole on the rim. I inflate the tube a little and mark the intertube on the side the valve stem leans. I didn't do that the first time so when I aired up the tire the valve stem popped out of the hole and went to the other side of the rim. I had to break it all down and turn the tube in the other direction then it work perfectly.

I went through three, new inner tubes, somehow puncturing them on the step at 3:46. The tools I used must have punctured the tube, as I was fighting to get that last step done. I was so careful, so careful, yet wasted my time and money. As I watched this video at this step, I was thinking he was going to do the same. It seems to me that at that step the rim needs to be elevated so that the tire could ride to the inner part of the rim so that it makes more slack. Since you don't know where the tub is sitting inside there when doing that. It would seem that a more blunt device be used to pry the tire over the rim in that step. The other thing I did was completely remove the tire to cut off the 2 patches I had put in previously. I also put in a 5.5 inch wide by 4 feet scrap of vinyl flooring to protect the tube from all the things that try to poke through when mowing. The tubes that I purchased were 15 x 6, but the tubes are way small to fill in all that space in the tire.

I removed any weld splatter on the inside of the wheel. Ran a peice of duct tape all around the inside of the rim so the inner tube doesn't rub on anything I missed. I used baby powder to make things slide. Wiped everything clean. Had to use vise grip also on valve stem until installed and filled.

I noticed you're using screwdrivers. Tire irons will pinch the tube. The spoons are too long. Works great if you're going back with tubeless. I have an idea how to use tire irons to keep from pinching the tube. Put a 4×4 in the ground kinda short with the end up. Drill a hole to insert a short piece of rebar. Set your rim on that. That'll keep the rim from dropping keeping the tube near the bottom away from being pinched.

My tire was shot, so I ordered a new one from Walmart, (and a tube too) and damn these are hard to get off the rim lol! And even harder to get the brand new one back on haha! I was dripping sweat just getting the old one off ha, I was like hmm, I should check youtube for ideas to make it easier to get on the new one. One thing I'll have to mention, on MY lawnmower, the rim is slightly smaller on one side, (the side with the valve) about a 1/4 inch smaller diameter, so that helps a little to get it on! I didn't think I'd be able to get this damn thing on haha! And yes get the smaller side in first then put on the tube. Like he did. Lube would definitely help. I thought of using some soapy water, (and then letting it dry first) idk.

One suggestion... Perhaps wrap the valve stem with duct tape (to prevent it from popping back in the rim). I had a stem leak that I suspect was from the weight of the vise grips flopping the stem on the rim hole. Mine didn't sit as nicely on the rim side as in the video.

Id be concerned about cutting or nicking stem too. Can put a large cap on the valve stem. Like some "decorative" ones that are larger than hole, so it cant pull back through. I used a skull shaped one i had for a bike.

Good idea, wish I'd read this before trying to fit my inner tube today as it has happened to me today. Valve popped back inside the tire just as it was quarter filled, now it is stuck inside. Gonna have to puncture the tire and inner tube to get them out and start again, not looking forward to that.

use a double stack of washers. One a little bigger than the top one, then put on the cap to hold it in place until the is ready for air. That works really nice.

Just put the cap back on no need for all that.

Screw your valve stem tool on the end of the stem. That's why they put an internal thread on one side of the tool.

You did it quick. I prefer to take the tire completely of the rim to clean and check the inside of the tire itself, and I clean the rust and welding ‘tit’s off the inside of the rim where’s the new tube is gonna rest, I’ve seen them eff the tube up. 🤔

I found a new solution. I bought a new tire and wheel assembly from Amazon last week. I did a video on it.

Looks like a couple of mini pry bars would help out there. My father would break down a tire an patch the tube way back when they used tubes. I was in college and the car needed a tire. We lived on the family farm and he went out to the garage house and brought one out. I took it down to this old guy in town who'd been in business for like a million years. He looked at the tire and his eyes lit up. It was an old tire, in fact it was so old it was premetric and maybe 50s or early 60s vintage. The guy put it on the car, though, with no problem.
