What's on his display is a virtual environment that mimics actual web pages (hence the meme ads on various pages), but the info that appears on bank and store accounts is all an illusion to fool the scammers. He has the page configured so that when he types any number into the Redeem section and hits OK, it shows the success notification, but there is no actual gift card in use. The cancel button does nothing because although it shows up in the graphic, he didn't program it with actual function.

the end was perfect... just listening to him realizing how powerless he really is and how hollow all his threats are - like he has gotten so used to people just buckling and doing whatever he says panicking that they'll lose everything. he spent the majority of the exchange totally enraged, believing that this stubborn and ignorant older woman just needs to grasp the scope of his threats and she will fully submit; only to be completely emasculated when it's carefully explained how absolutely powerless he is. he tries to backtrack and remind 'her' that "he never said to redeem" but you can tell he isn’t even fooling himself anymore. and idk maybe in the full version he does, but I fucking love that he never even figured out he was talking to a character
